I find the photo of Madeleine with the makeup very odd, and I’m not sure what purpose sharing it served. The visit the McCannns made to Clement Freud is also strange given his convictions, and the comments David Payne is alleged to have made are incredibly disturbing.

If you don't read the newspaper, you're uninformed. If you do read the newspaper, you're misinformed."

And you've classed yourself permanently as beyond contempt. Imagine making the horrifying disappearance of a small child into a hobby horse for your baseless ravings.

bsides · 28/05/2026 12:16

Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me

Gerry McCann has said in interviews that he (and Kate) don't mind people theorizing or speculating about what happened to Madeleine

Yep agree, all of these are strange to say the least.

This seems to have moved on from the TV programme.

Hands up I don't have children and I don't know what happened that week.

What I thought was odd, if this is what happened, but it seems to me they went on holiday and put their children in childcare all week.

Then they put the children to bed and met up with friends for dinner.

Surely you want to spend some time with your children?

bsides · 28/05/2026 18:35

This was a mark warner tennis holiday. where they could get professional coaching. Very much an upper middle class thing. No doubt they will pack there kids of to boarding school as soon as they can. In the meantime there is always the nanny to look after them.

I don’t think any of that was the case. Their other children are now in their 20s, I think.

They did during the day, they weren't at kids clubs all the time but children do like those, they have a lot of fun there.

The parents spent a lot of time with their children at home, Kate was only part time as a locum, their lives were like that most people who have kids, everything revolves around their timings.

Holidays are for adults and children.

I must say I always took mine out to dinner with us at night but I know it is quite English to have bedtimes for young kids and separate adult time.

Butlin's used to have a baby monitoring service, ie people would walk round the chalets in the evening and if they heard a child crying, an announcement would be made in the dining hall or ballroom so the parents would go and see to the child. That seems absolutely dreadful now but was much the same as the McCanns and friends were doing, half hourly monitoring.

Who are 'they' that you are talking about?

IIRC the twins are a few months older than my DS2. Im not sure if could find a boarding school prepared to take him, or a Nanny for him if I could afford either. On account of him being 19 years old.

Yep, they're 21. The only way people their age are going to school is as staff or parents.

bsides · 28/05/2026 19:21

no point must be an expensive lifestyle keeping up with your even richer friends.
I guess if you could earn a little extra to agreeing to a medical trial. Whats the worse that could happen

It would be good to get this thread back to the TV programme, it's been derailed by a certain poster.

I also noticed that about the holiday - if you want an adult-only holiday, why not leave the kids at home?

I wonder what the now grown up twins think about it all. I wonder if they have any resentment towards their parents.

bigboykitty · 28/05/2026 21:02

I would imagine their issues are well suppressed for now and will likely emerge if/when they become parents themselves.

bsides · 28/05/2026 21:33

They say that the only way 2 people can keep a secret is if one of them is dead
Imagine if it is 7 + 2 . Sometimes you have to wait for a death bed confession.
But information has to arrive at the right time to be relevant.

And yet imagine all the many thousands of people who are apparently able to keep schtum about the Manchester Arena and other ‘hoaxes’, the moon landings, the existence of ‘grey aliens’ and all the other things Richard Hall appears to think happen.

Channel 5's Under Suspicion Kate McCann
Both Gerry and Kate were made suspects in the disappearance of there daughter , It is not clear why the program only featured Kate . Kate did not answer the questions but Gerry did although the official transcript of the interviews has not been released. The program covered the reasons they were made suspects. There were a lot of changes to the story given by them and the re friends. It was felt they were adapting there story as evidence was discovered. It was felt the crime scene had been staged,. The evidence of the dogs signalling at relevant locations. Low count DNA found at a location that had been signaled by the dogs that was a possible match. It is not clear why they were allowed to return to the UK just days after being made suspects.
Both the Dogs and Low count DNA are only considered as an indications and require supporting evidence. The police can use a lot of tactics to get contradictions and a confession even when someone has decided not to answer questions. The police can and do lie in many ways when questioning a suspect.
Often along the line we have found evidence or another party has confessed.
I was once questioned by six policemen at the same time about a very minor matter . It is amazing how they can twist things around . They want to make you angry If I had not stayed calm I could have got myself arrested. The time is shortened for the TV , But In a case like this why was the interview so short and no tricks or other pressure pointing out contradictions and changes of story.

Are you okay? What a strange thing to say. How on earth would it be possible for a person who was around such early trauma not to be affected by this? They lost a sister they will have no memories of, plus the uncertainty of what happened to her and the actions of their parents. Their lives have been lived in the face of an ongoing police investigation and with constant media interest. Do you imagine that this hasn't impacted them?

I completely agree. I would hope the twins have had access to support to help them come to terms with the situation as best as possible. But they know they were left alone at 2 years old and as you say, they’ve lived their entire lives since then with the knowledge their sister is missing and with the permanent grief from that event. It feels very clinical and unempathetic to think there wouldn’t be difficult issues arising from that.

EnterQueene · 29/05/2026 11:26

I think the poster was picking up the seeming glee with which suppressed issues were raised when it was pointed out the twins have grown up to appear to have steady successful lives. In any case, it really is none of our business and the best thing for everyone is to leave this poor family alone, stop watching voyeuristic TV programmes and stop goulishly speculating on their feelings.

crossedlines · 29/05/2026 11:41

‘Seeming glee.’ How did you make that leap?

Shutting down any suggestion they may be functioning adults. But what does it matter? Our opinions are pointless speculation, far better to leave the family alone if you feel any genuine compassion for them or their surviving children.
