The ice cream could be pre-shaped and frozen.

What was the restaurant? I wasn't keen on the owners tbh.

OOh. Headband returns next episode! There was a whole stand of them in one of the tents at Badminton last week. I thought of Anna.

I bet if it was Heston, it'd look like a banana but actually be made of cheese.

Roe, in Canary Wharf.

I thought they did well in professional kitchen

I can’t however believe they go in a few hours before and pull it off on service the same day

Sunbird24 · 19/05/2026 22:02

It always feels weird when they finish the episode with a non-jeopardy task

Thank you. Will have a butcher's at the menu. I've got two nights in London next week for work - where should I go for dinner?

Edited

I can’t believe they’re asked to do stuff like fry doughnuts without having practised first.

Cookingdoesntgettougher · 19/05/2026 22:39

Just caught up but just the first part, right ones went though the hot pot did look great.

I don’t really like the restaurant parts. They must spend quite a while in the kitchen. Even with pretend customers they would need to be clear on the food hygiene at that particular restaurant. Which sinks are hand washing suitable? Make sure they know all the correct boards and don’t just swap them accidentally - the basics you would learn at the very start.

Or the newly reopened Simpsons in the Strand. Haven’t tried that yet though

Thanks for the recommendations.

Watching now. Love Sean’s, Jane (sp) and Kirsty’s so far.

i find Anna’s expression often very scary - her eyes seem to glare at the contestants!

Grace has fantastic clothes! Is she okay? Often seems as though she’s holding her hands or arms as if they hurt.

Really need scallops with a pomme Anna or purée please!

I’m a newbie to Master Chef. Please forgive errors.

Dumb question of the day - do the contestants pay for their own food, or do the bbc buy it?

Davros · 20/05/2026 10:13

i hate to say it, as I love her, but Grace’s voice is often ridiculously cartoony

Fransgran · 20/05/2026 10:40

Meant to watch with you all last night but my best laid plans definitely went agley. Anyway have just watched it, sort of, although I'm also not keen on the professional kitchen episodes - don't like the staginess and the false jeopardy. The bingo card certainly filled up quickly!
When Grace said Lancashire hotpot was her on a plate, I spent a few minutes wondering what would represent me on a plate. Couldn't think of a damn thing except that my plate would definitely not be adorned with a quenelle, a rocher, a parmesan tuile or flowers.
I liked the duelling perogies with Jhane and Antos. I spent four years in a part of Ohio where everyone who wasn't Italian was Polish so I enjoy a good perogy. I also used to pig out on kolaczkis, even though I don't have a sweet tooth. I rolled out of state considerably heavier than when I ventured in.
I think Kirsty knocked herself out by doing too much (boiled fat in the sauce, yuck! I think the right two went home. Weren't they the best in their pretty mediocre heat?
I didn't know whether to feel amused or indulgent of the contestants' ambitions. Most of them have a steep hill to climb before anyone is likely to offer them a travel programme or a cooking show but we can all dream, I suppose. Aim for the sky and you might hit the top of the tree, as I used to tell my students.

I very much enjoyed all your Brownie related comments. I love the way these threads teach me stuff (I never heard of hot honey) or prompt long buried memories. I was the sixer in the "Little People." Our brown owl must've been having a laugh because we were all the tallest ones in the unit. My friend Carol and I tested her sense of humour to its limits over four years and after one particularly heinous prank, our parents were diplomatically invited to remove us. It was only a few months before we were due to "fly up" to Guides and my mother, a fervent guider, was looking forward to it, even though I had said rudely that I didn't want to fly anywhere. She was mortified! Sorry mammy. I don't think she ever really forgave me, no matter what I achieved in life.

Yes - in a live full service - I just don’t believe they go in for prep at 10am like the normal
staff and are expected to be in charge of a course - surely that takes quite a few hours/weeks/years of learning or else anyone could do it -
