New upcoming crime drama, The Cage, starring Sheridan Smith (https://www.hellomagazine.com/tags/sheridan-smith/) and Michael Socha – and it could just be your next TV obsession.

Now if Miss SS gets to snog MS I will be very jealous

I loved him in showtrail and seem to have a little crush on him 💓
5 parts on weekly on a Sunday night x 5weeks

Filmed in and around Liverpool and Merseyside, the story centres around Leanne (Smith), a casino cashier who starts skimming cash from the safe to save her family home.

But when she discovers her boss Matty (Socha) is doing the same thing, both of their lives start to spiral out of control.

The newly released trailer shows Leanne, a single mum, and Matty, a gambling addict, form an unlikely partnership to keep their thefts a secret, but soon become entangled with brutal local gangsters and the police.

The series follows Leanne, a charismatic cashier at an inner-city casino in Liverpool, who starts skimming cash from the safe when she's threatened with losing her home.

When she discovers that her boss Matty is also taking money from the safe, "their lives are set on a collision course; with each other, the local gangster they're stealing from, and the police".

They're joined by Barry Sloane (House of the Dragon) as Gary, Geraldine James (Dope Girls) as Nancy, Anton Bibby as Thomas, Freya Jones as Emily and Sophie Mensah (Sanctuary: A Witches Tale) as Fen.

Sophie Mensah plays Amanda Ning
Rounding out the cast are Abby Mavers (Waterloo Road) as Kelly, Shaun Mason (Extraordinary) as Alan, Louis Emerick as Paul (The Power of Parker), Ian Puleston Davies (Tin Star) as Vincent, Julia Papp (Baptiste) as Irina, Katy Carmichael (Malpractice) as DCI Hannigan, Dave Hart (The Responder) as Danny, Eileen O'Brien (Not Going Out) as Nanna, Eithne Browne (The Responder) as Annie and Mona Goodwin (Extraordinary) as Trace.

Gary does a great raging psychopath turn, my dog's still hiding behind the sofa. I think Matty's eyebrows deserve a Bafta for best supporting feature. SS looks as though she has gob stoppers in her cheeks, like a human hamster. Duck beak lips not a good look either.

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/05/2026 23:30

Gary was a good flip behaviour in tonight’s episode. Obv mum must have known about his drugs

so how are they both going to get out of the police arresting them now ? Or as they weren’t there tech at the time the police barges in …..

I was in two minds before but was glued to this episode . Bet Matty had to force his eyebrows back to normal after being in this.

Roll on the last episode but won't be reading here as a friend's round tonight so watching tomorrow. Bring it on !

FairKoala · 18/05/2026 13:17

After reading all the hype I turned off somewhere midway through the first episode.
Was falling asleep with the lack of anything really happening and the predictability of the cast.

Just saw from one of the first posts it was set in present day

All I can comment is, if a business that takes thousands each day in cash is so cheap to not invest in an up to date computer and is placing its security measures on an old machine, a printer and the honesty of staff then what on earth were they expecting to happen

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/05/2026 14:58

I’m not sure how this will pan out tonight

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 18/05/2026 21:25

Didn’t they even look in her boot to check if a spare tyre

or should have said to the police I don’t have one

not to say I don’t know so he checked the boot

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 18/05/2026 21:27

Guessing Gary gave up the bigger fish and will save them all

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 18/05/2026 21:50

Or maybe not

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/05/2026 22:51

I enjoyed this. Good to have a
not happy ending as in both getting off

tho looked like Nancy Gary’s mum took them in and she got her job back

and was the copper back stalking the casino out

tho wish it said how long he was inside for

and very glad SS didn’t snog MS😂

hope to see him in something again soon 🥰

I cried too at that letter
and the daughter calling him a hero.

Confused about the casino though.

The ethnicity of the clientele had changed to Chinese. And Ning joined a group like they knew each other. Am I mixing things up?

Ning's mother was a regular at the casino and she joined her group at the end. So I saw it as a kind of family reconciliation because she seemed estranged from her before?

MrsLargeEmbodied · 19/05/2026 05:00

also confused that
Gary wasnt killed
that Ning was allowed to arrest him when she was off sick
but it was a good ending
she had stolen the money and he had the drugs

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/05/2026 09:49

And his daughter loves him now

I really enjoyed this as well. Once I got over the first episode and who was who. I had a dodgy start with it , but glad I didn’t give up.

butterpuffed · 19/05/2026 16:27

It would've been better with less of Leanne's back story and more of Matty's, which we didn't find out till the end, when we discovered how much it had shaped him.

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/05/2026 21:35

Not sure why the mum reading out in court why matty was the way he was - what was the point

or just back story

and Gary got off the drug charge as matty stole them

It was to explain why Matty was the way he was. Because of the guilt he was carrying around with him about his brother.
