New upcoming crime drama, The Cage, starring Sheridan Smith (https://www.hellomagazine.com/tags/sheridan-smith/) and Michael Socha – and it could just be your next TV obsession.

Now if Miss SS gets to snog MS I will be very jealous

I loved him in showtrail and seem to have a little crush on him 💓
5 parts on weekly on a Sunday night x 5weeks

Filmed in and around Liverpool and Merseyside, the story centres around Leanne (Smith), a casino cashier who starts skimming cash from the safe to save her family home.

But when she discovers her boss Matty (Socha) is doing the same thing, both of their lives start to spiral out of control.

The newly released trailer shows Leanne, a single mum, and Matty, a gambling addict, form an unlikely partnership to keep their thefts a secret, but soon become entangled with brutal local gangsters and the police.

The series follows Leanne, a charismatic cashier at an inner-city casino in Liverpool, who starts skimming cash from the safe when she's threatened with losing her home.

When she discovers that her boss Matty is also taking money from the safe, "their lives are set on a collision course; with each other, the local gangster they're stealing from, and the police".

They're joined by Barry Sloane (House of the Dragon) as Gary, Geraldine James (Dope Girls) as Nancy, Anton Bibby as Thomas, Freya Jones as Emily and Sophie Mensah (Sanctuary: A Witches Tale) as Fen.

Sophie Mensah plays Amanda Ning
Rounding out the cast are Abby Mavers (Waterloo Road) as Kelly, Shaun Mason (Extraordinary) as Alan, Louis Emerick as Paul (The Power of Parker), Ian Puleston Davies (Tin Star) as Vincent, Julia Papp (Baptiste) as Irina, Katy Carmichael (Malpractice) as DCI Hannigan, Dave Hart (The Responder) as Danny, Eileen O'Brien (Not Going Out) as Nanna, Eithne Browne (The Responder) as Annie and Mona Goodwin (Extraordinary) as Trace.

Was looking forward to watching. Home early specially. Michael Socha and Sheridan Smith excellent actors. Sadly, I am finding it difficult to adapt to the amount of work Smith has had done on her face. I’m finding I’m more focussed on this impact than the script. Will get flamed but is what it is. Sorry.

the80sweregreat · Yesterday 21:23

For some reason ( before it started) I thought it was set in the 80s!! I saw a trailer and it looked old.
That’s all.

the80sweregreat · Yesterday 21:27

It does appear to be shot through plastic ! The filming is weird.

Blondeshavemorefun · Yesterday 21:29

Tho the car reg plates seem old so maybe set 20yrs ago

watching it’s ok.

not sure when it’s set. 2002 & 2007 number plates but the pc in that office look much older than that

the80sweregreat · Yesterday 21:59

M S does have something about him, but I have lost interest with the actual plot. SS is very good, but she always plays these type of characters.
Good soundtrack !

Great soundtrack - double dose of The The!

Not sure I'm going to stick with it.

the80sweregreat · Yesterday 22:05

The the track , at first I thought it was Lloyd Cole and the commotions !

daffodilandtulip · Yesterday 22:05

Wasn’t bad, even if a bit unbelievable at times - I mean who keeps £34k in their wardrobe? Police are already onto them.

Ubers, vapes and mobile phones appear so it's now. But I did think it was meant to be the 2000s up til Ubers came up because of that computer!

the80sweregreat · Yesterday 22:07

I admit that I did lose interest with it fairly quickly.
It seems well acted though, but I can’t see me sticking with it. I was the same with ‘ kin ‘ as well.

Thistooshallpass. · Yesterday 22:13

Ok so far . I thought it was set 20 years ago at first - the computers so old and the print outs and the general look of the clothes / cars etc . Then the fact you could alter figures and expect no tracking or notifications . Yet then it appeared to actually be set now ?! Odd . Story unconvincing .. not sure I’ll bother with more .
