So glad Maddie was sent home. I found her unbearable to watch.
The constant performative face pulling and gurning and ‘wackiness’ was hideous.
I’m so fed up with these shows where the casting is for the Instagram types. Just find some nice, normal people who don’t have a social media agenda.

These challenges were right up my Strasse. For years, every Sunday morning I made buttermilk pancakes with maple syrup and bacon while everyone sat around the table like big, rapacious cuckoos. When the bacon was gone they accepted it was gone, but they demolished the pancakes as fast as I could make them and the demand always exceeded my goodwill. I never ate one, still don't care for them. I also make a killer salad and do enjoy them. Maddie made a decent pancake but then ruined it with all the junk she piled on top so I was glad she got sent home. I found her intensely irritating with her affected, self consciously fey mannerisms and don't get me started on the three year old gourmet ( but that could be jealousy as all the three year olds I know can't see further than chicken nuggets.) Michael's brain has been addled by too much exposure to small children, crafting and, probably, sleep deprivation. It was a kindness to send him home ( or maybe to a night's sleep in a holel.) Sabina and Jhane acquited themselves well, Jim is ok but I was sorry for Rosdip.

I am getting quite annoyed by Grace's obsession with portion size. The 'feeding an army' comments strike me as a MN chicken type thing and they really didn't look huge any time she said it. Grace has a writer persona of celebrating comfort food and generous feeding and yet here she seems to want everything dainty.

I'm fed up with MC being at 9. It's just too late for me and I'm missing following along with the thread.
Have they deliberately picked ropier contestants this series? There's some mad combinations and the flour in the mashed potatoes and the hollandaise showed a basic lack of understanding of how flour works.
Previous contestants have almost seemed at professional level so perhaps they're trying to revert to more home cook style.
I like Anna and Grace's comments generally but could without Anna's reaction shots.
So relieved Maddie went - she was so twitchy and gurned almost as much as Anna.
Thought Cthulu-man (I'm terrible on names) was stupidly patronising, explaining a spray gun to Jay.
And why, for the love of God, why involve a spray gun?!

I felt the same re their levels. It seems like they are going back to more old style genuine home cooks, but then some of the presentation is still more professional level, so it seems like an unfair playing field.

She had a pair on the other night that looked like a couple of Bold laundry pods.

I liked it last year when someone produced something so bad that Shitwell said 'I'm only eating this because they're paying me'.

That is quite funny.
They'd have to pay me a fair amount to eat the floured hollandaise or the floured mashed potatoes - I'm still staggered by those (I know, I should get out more 😄).

The fact that the floured potatoes still managed to be liquid was quite something.

I must reluctantly concede that I can't watch live with you all tonight thanks to a barbarously inhumane early start tomorrow. I'll record it and catch up with all your bons mots, clever insights and witticisms sometime tomorrow. I have no clue why I'm going on like this - my mother would have accused me of "talking like a ha'penny book." It's either old age, sleep deprivation or an unholy combination thereof. Sorry

I'm here for the start - whether I am still awake at the end will be another matter, I slept so badly last night and had a very busy day at work.
