Hooray!

This is back for another series, starting Thursday.

I just googled very quickly and they set off from Sicily and end the race in northern Mongolia - sounds interesting.

I don't know anything else about it at this point, but thought that we should have a thread ready and waiting.

That is dedication to the cause!

I agree.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 03/04/2026 20:20

the cousins are very pretty, surprised no one else has commented this.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 03/04/2026 20:22

i thought the brothers were older
and the other older married pair, i can't remember if they won, but there were from yorkshire or somewhere, i thought they were older than 61, considering i am 61 this year it causes me pain!
Tony and Elaine,
google has also told me there were 62, slightly older

BoxingHare · 03/04/2026 20:30

Were they 61 when it was filmed, and 62 when it aired?

i dont know that detail Grin

MonstrousRegimentRocks · 03/04/2026 20:35

Bryan and Melvyn were 62 and 65.

BoxingHare · 03/04/2026 20:40

Apparently they were 62 at filming and are 69 now!

Well, that's upset my figures hasn't it! 😂😂😂

IglesiasPiggl · 03/04/2026 20:47

I really enjoyed the first episode, I like all the pairs. I know it's not popular on MN, but I like hearing the back stories as we go along, they're part of what shapes the experience for each pair. Roll on the details!

I think back stories are fine, they just did it too much in the last series, imo.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 03/04/2026 20:54

The back stories become dreadfully repetitive though

Bryan and Melvyn were 62 and 65.

One of my favourite ever teams, or ‘The Brothers’ as they became known.

Was that the one with the older mother endlessly going on about having given everything up for her family, when actually she ran a horse riding business? That one was a bit tedious I have to say.

Oh yes!

They were great, I really liked them, but the back story just got too much.

She was incredibly irritating.

That's the one - much of their property was an equestrian centre that she ran, and she was also an amateur eventer - and she presented herself as a housewife and stay at home mum who had lost herself whilst doing nothing but looking after her family of husband and son for years.

Yes, I remember that.

BoxingHare · 03/04/2026 21:14

I liked the brothers too, but yes the backstory stuff (which I think one of them tried valiantly to avoid) was too much.

I admired Finn, the young man from the Welsh couple, who seemed not to be playing ball and didn't reveal quite so much as the others.

Yes, I agree. He was good.

I like a back story I don’t like a sob story. There is a difference

Silverbirchleaf · 03/04/2026 21:25

I’ve been following Finn and Sionedon instragram and they’re still travelling.

Good point. I agree. I’m interested in people’s story and life but I don’t want it as a sob story every episode.

as soon as she described herself as "random and chaotic" which is such a red flag for someone who is very likely to be extremely irritating. To the point where I paused the show to tell my kids why they should approach anyone who proudly describes themselves that way with extreme caution.

My immediate thought was that she might have ADHD, like me, as I can be pretty random and chaotic as part of poor executive function.

I think there's a difference between being random and chaotic - loads of people are - and making it a core part of your personality that you cheerfully announce to people.

I've known far too many of the latter. Like I say, a red flag.

EachandEveryone · 03/04/2026 22:02

I noticed when they were looking for a room on the night Margo never had her back pack on. Are they allowed to leave them with people? I really like her and her lippy. The cocoon made me laugh.

Squirrelchops1 · 03/04/2026 22:04

Having just come back from Sicily and having been in Palermo I was really excited watching it tonight.
I've also stayed in Fiskardo so somewhere else we know!
