new 6 part series stars Eve Myles (https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/uk/lifestyle/a65948077/best-eve-myles-dramas/) (Keeping Faith) as gutsy Detective Annie Cassidy, who's investigating the mysterious disappearance of Bristol woman, Sarah.

And the chilling twist is that Detective Cassidy’s main suspect is Sarah’s husband, Headmaster Michael Polly, who's played by none other than Sherwood's David Morrissey. Genius casting indeed!

Gone is a chilling mystery focusing on local Headmaster Michael Polly, played by David Morrissey (The Long Shadow, Sherwood), who becomes the prime suspect in his wife Sarah’s disappearance.

An upstanding member of the community, Michael Polly is inscrutable and likes order and precision in his working life.

Until, that is, he encounters super bright, gutsy Detective Annie Cassidy, played by Eve Myles (The Crow Girl, Hijack) and a compulsive game of cat and mouse begins as she chips away at his veneer in search of the truth.

Beneath the surface of the mystery, lies a deeper exploration of trauma, trust and the legacy of elite institutions.

The series also stars Jennifer Macbeth, Arthur Hughes, Nicholas Nunn, Elliot Cowan, Billy Barratt, Rupert Evans, Jodie McNee, Oscar Batterham and Clare Higgins.

I suppose the phone numbers for her phone ID will turn out to be her lovers date of birth or something like that.
However , someone has been found now , so better get on the ‘ tech ‘ people to speed things up ..

It was her marriage date

Actually just seen that the cold case plot line is based on a real life murder which explains the disclaimer.

Yes Annie based roughly on the detective in the real missing case

Yes it can't be as straightforward as man kills his wife. Michael is being set up as the perfect suspect with his cold calm demeanor.

Alanna mentioned her mum was 'popular'. Maybe she's referring to her being popular in the sense she had extra marital affairs? Michael left his wife a voicemail message saying "again" implying his wife has done this sort of thing before.

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/03/2026 09:33

Thing If he did report her missing police wouldn’t do anything for 24hrs as an adult

maybe she has ‘run away’ had time to think previously so hasn’t too worried she left

And yes diary was 2026

also why didn’t dig last call her dog say an run back to house - her dog is trampling over a crime scene

Oh. I thought that the marriage date for the phone was wrong too ( wasn’t paying attention)

SydneyCarton · 09/03/2026 09:52

Yeah, I thought the marriage date didn't work on the phone even though Alana insisted she used it for every passcode.

I wonder if whoever killed Sarah (assuming the body is Sarah) will turn out to be the same killer in Annie's cold case as I assume they both get solved in the end.

I don't know if Annie necessarily has a troubled private life - I assumed the whole bit about "should I get back with my ex?" was there to illustrate the close relationship she has with Carol rather than anything else. Have to wait and see if Craig pops up again or not I suppose.

I was surprised I could recognise David Morrissey from the back view in the first few minutes as I hadn't heard of the series before and just decided to watch it on a whim 😂He was also in The Long Shadow about the Yorkshire Ripper (really good TV) and it's the same writer who did this as well.

PrincessScarlett · 09/03/2026 10:14

I think I'm going to avoid the real life case so as not to spoil this drama. Although I'm another one that had no idea who Carol was and had to do a quick Google.

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/03/2026 10:50

Oh you may be right over the phone code

My prediction after episode 1 is that the rugby lad did it, the one dumped from the team.

I wondered about that, but there's bound to be red herrings.

JaneJeffer · 09/03/2026 11:26

I thought she had gone missing before the first time we saw the woman walking the dog so how come she only discovered her body the following day?

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/03/2026 12:28

Guessing the body was dumped in the evening or next day - so after 430 the day she went missing but before 430 the next day

I don't think the rugby player did it, he just knows something .

Wonder why Michael is keeping quiet about saying 'not again' on the voicemail to his wife, meaning it's not the first time she's disappeared .

SydneyCarton · 09/03/2026 13:51

I think the rugby player is a red herring or just a plot device to show how unbending and stern Michael is. The kid might let down his tyres or key his car but I can't see a teenager battering his headmaster's wife, who's a popular teacher herself, to death over being dropped from a school rugby team.

If anyone is interested in the real-life book that inspired part of the drama, it's £2.99 on Kindle at the moment. To Hunt A Killer by Julie Mackay

Meredusoleil · 09/03/2026 14:11

I wonder if the lad was having an affair with Sarah? Then his parents found out and killed her. That would be well dodgy! And what about that other male teacher? He seems keen on Alana.

emmetgirl · 09/03/2026 14:18

I’m on episode 6 and am enjoying it.

CreamolaFoam26 · 09/03/2026 15:09

I’ve finished it whilst being poorly with bronchitis. I really enjoyed the series.

purpleme12 · 09/03/2026 20:55

I knew I recognised the actress who plays Alana!
It's her from Everything I Know About Love!
Bloody loved that programme

JaneJeffer · 09/03/2026 21:09

“That’s what I mean” ha ha 😂

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/03/2026 21:13

He def doesn’t seem upset

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 09/03/2026 21:15

Why is she looking at him like that?

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/03/2026 21:22

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 09/03/2026 21:26

The daughter

is a family liaison officer supposed to be snooping around the house?

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/03/2026 21:31
