new 6 part series stars Eve Myles (https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/uk/lifestyle/a65948077/best-eve-myles-dramas/) (Keeping Faith) as gutsy Detective Annie Cassidy, who's investigating the mysterious disappearance of Bristol woman, Sarah.

And the chilling twist is that Detective Cassidy’s main suspect is Sarah’s husband, Headmaster Michael Polly, who's played by none other than Sherwood's David Morrissey. Genius casting indeed!

Gone is a chilling mystery focusing on local Headmaster Michael Polly, played by David Morrissey (The Long Shadow, Sherwood), who becomes the prime suspect in his wife Sarah’s disappearance.

An upstanding member of the community, Michael Polly is inscrutable and likes order and precision in his working life.

Until, that is, he encounters super bright, gutsy Detective Annie Cassidy, played by Eve Myles (The Crow Girl, Hijack) and a compulsive game of cat and mouse begins as she chips away at his veneer in search of the truth.

Beneath the surface of the mystery, lies a deeper exploration of trauma, trust and the legacy of elite institutions.

The series also stars Jennifer Macbeth, Arthur Hughes, Nicholas Nunn, Elliot Cowan, Billy Barratt, Rupert Evans, Jodie McNee, Oscar Batterham and Clare Higgins.

I wondered about the cigarette machine in the pub. They haven't been around for donkey's years. I realise it is set in the past, but even so, seemed odd. I was looking at car number plates. I saw a couple of 52s, did anyone spot any later ones?

moto748e · 08/03/2026 22:53

On home envy, I thought that crappy panelling door into the living room looked a bit out of place!

the80sweregreat · 08/03/2026 22:55

When is it set then? I was only half watching , the school gave me Hogwarts vibes !

the80sweregreat · 08/03/2026 22:57

I liked cold water ! Eve Myles played a very sinister character in that. It was great .

AlwaysRightISwear · 08/03/2026 23:06

Good so far.

Prediction after ep 1, the daughter did it and her dad is covering for her.

Would he really be interviewing job candidates alone?

I thought the mobile phones looked pretty modern.

PurpleLovecats · 08/03/2026 23:20

My prediction after episode 1 is that the rugby lad did it, the one dumped from the team.

dapsnotplimsolls · 08/03/2026 23:23

Why did they need a language teacher just for 6 weeks? What happened to the last one?

BatchCookBabe · 08/03/2026 23:30

Quite enjoying it so far. Good story, well casted, well acted.

Have to say though, whilst I think Eve Myles is attractive, I am not loving the blonde hair. She has had it like this for several years now, and had it like this in The Guest and Coldwater too.

Looks much better her natural colour. (Brunette.) The hairstyle (shorter) looks OK, but not the blonde.

JMO.

Hope it doesn't turn out to be rubbish, alot of them do.

the80sweregreat · 09/03/2026 02:40

I thought the police take phones and have techy people who can get information from them ? It seemed weird her trying different numbers to gain access.

Yes. That's what I thought too. It was almost like she was using it to test the husband's knowledge of her password as a relationship indicator or something!

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/03/2026 05:54

Also did anyone else pick up the fact that Michael specifically asked for Annie when reporting his wife missing? I wonder why 🤔

I was also puzzled about Annie's relationship with the older lady she kept dropping in on. I had to look it up for an explanation!

Meredusoleil · 09/03/2026 06:50

And I don't think it is set in the past. Michael was born in 1970 and is 54 years old and his wife was born in 1972 and is 52 years old. So that sounds like 2024 or early 2025 to me!

I thought Michael just asked for a senior detective rather than Annie specifically. And then she introduced herself when she walked into the interview room 🤷🏻‍♀️

But yes it's odd he asked for someone senior rather than just reporting it at the front desk.

SydneyCarton · 09/03/2026 07:33

The missing woman’s journal said 2026 on it and as others have said the birth dates and ages make it modern day. I did think she seemed quite young to have a mid-twenties daughter though.

I wasn’t sure what the whole disclaimers thing at the end about “this is fiction, any similarity etc etc is coincidental” unless it was a condition of filming at the school? Had to clarify that the real life headmaster definitely didn’t bump off his wife 🤣

MsPug · 09/03/2026 07:43

ill keep watching I think. Acting is good. Also he did leave her a voicemail saying we aren't going through this again didn't he?!

SydneyCarton · 09/03/2026 08:01

Actually just seen that the cold case plot line is based on a real life murder which explains the disclaimer.

Meredusoleil · 09/03/2026 08:15

I really thought the daughter looked so much younger that she was actually a uni student rather than a teacher!

That languages teacher was awful though. Totally in the job for the wrong reasons!

Clawdy · 09/03/2026 08:23

Intriguing so far, will definitely be watching tonight. Hope there will be some good twists ahead!

topcat2026 · 09/03/2026 08:29

I felt the story is pretty boring (how many times have we seen this before?). God knows how it’s going to be stretched for another five episodes. And the main detective with a troubled private life - yawn at that cliché.

The heavy marketing of this (focusing on the cat and mouse dynamic) makes me think it just can’t be Michael who’s abducted or killed his wife because that’s too obvious, so there’s not much suspense for me.

David Morrissey’s accent is also distracting.

the80sweregreat · 09/03/2026 08:42

I suppose the phone numbers for her phone ID will turn out to be her lovers date of birth or something like that.
However , someone has been found now , so better get on the ‘ tech ‘ people to speed things up ..

Recklessismymiddlename · 09/03/2026 08:46

Thank you Blondes. I started watching then watched last episode of capture S2, with dh. We may binge this and capture. Also dh and I don’t know each others code, not that they are hidden, we both just forget.
