new 6 part series stars Eve Myles (https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/uk/lifestyle/a65948077/best-eve-myles-dramas/) (Keeping Faith) as gutsy Detective Annie Cassidy, who's investigating the mysterious disappearance of Bristol woman, Sarah.

And the chilling twist is that Detective Cassidy’s main suspect is Sarah’s husband, Headmaster Michael Polly, who's played by none other than Sherwood's David Morrissey. Genius casting indeed!

Gone is a chilling mystery focusing on local Headmaster Michael Polly, played by David Morrissey (The Long Shadow, Sherwood), who becomes the prime suspect in his wife Sarah’s disappearance.

An upstanding member of the community, Michael Polly is inscrutable and likes order and precision in his working life.

Until, that is, he encounters super bright, gutsy Detective Annie Cassidy, played by Eve Myles (The Crow Girl, Hijack) and a compulsive game of cat and mouse begins as she chips away at his veneer in search of the truth.

Beneath the surface of the mystery, lies a deeper exploration of trauma, trust and the legacy of elite institutions.

The series also stars Jennifer Macbeth, Arthur Hughes, Nicholas Nunn, Elliot Cowan, Billy Barratt, Rupert Evans, Jodie McNee, Oscar Batterham and Clare Higgins.

“As brilliant as Keeping Faith”: 9 of the best Eve Myles dramas to watch now on ITV, the BBC, Netflix and more

I’m sure that the real police laugh at people in dramas that take evidence out with them or go off sleuthing without any back up or go off grid after being suspended for doing the wrong thing for the right reasons and all the other tropes they have in detective shows.

I know and it doesn't bother me much usually, we hear 'it's a drama not a documentary' on these threads all the time but when it gets too silly it just spoils it. What are the chances the key she was logging in her 'evidence under the carseat bag' was his front door key.

Years ago I watched part of an episode of something where David Morrissey played a romantic lead.

The 7.39?

@Gloriia the Scouse was in
The Gathering
And
Breathtaking

DM didn’t play a farmer in the 7.39, but I agree he was rather fanciable in that with Sheridan smith. There is something very brooding about him. He was good in Blackpool as well. That was a bit different.

I don't think I saw any of those. It's annoying me, I thought she must have been in Line Of Duty or one of the other high profile dramas but apparently not.

I hadn't read properly & it was the first thing that came to mind!

I can’t believe how many things DM has been in tbh! I haven’t seen him in that many things, but he is a good actor. Someone on here said he had ‘ Mr Darcy ‘ vibes and that’s it ! He does lol

SomewhereInMyHeart · 24/03/2026 16:18

I remember DM as the love interest in ‘Hilary and Jackie’, which was 1998! No idea if he was a farmer…

They did live at a place called Church Farm I think!

David M was really good in “Daddy Issues”. Playing Aimee Lee Wood’s dad!

the80sweregreat · 24/03/2026 17:46

I liked Daddy issues as well. I had forgotten he was in that. Those two were good with a strange and disjointed script at times.

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/03/2026 17:55

He’s a good actor and obv the baddie in the walking dead

i liked him in the 7.39

ageingdisgracefully · 25/03/2026 14:18

I like Morrissey too. He and Myles definitely carried the show imvho. Wasn't he in State of Play? That was good. And Sherwood. Good too. Anyone remember him as Colonel Brandon in Andrew Davies' Sense and Sensibility? He's very brooding in that. Better than Alan Rickman's portrayal I think.

NewGirlInTown · 28/03/2026 22:59

I thought David Morrissey carried this whole show. He’s a brilliant actor and made me watch to the end instead of giving up on it.
The lead female character was utterly hopeless as a police officer.
I think the story could have been told in a much more effective way; the denouement suffered from absolutely zero build up to that resolution.
