new 6 part series stars Eve Myles (https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/uk/lifestyle/a65948077/best-eve-myles-dramas/) (Keeping Faith) as gutsy Detective Annie Cassidy, who's investigating the mysterious disappearance of Bristol woman, Sarah.

And the chilling twist is that Detective Cassidy’s main suspect is Sarah’s husband, Headmaster Michael Polly, who's played by none other than Sherwood's David Morrissey. Genius casting indeed!

Gone is a chilling mystery focusing on local Headmaster Michael Polly, played by David Morrissey (The Long Shadow, Sherwood), who becomes the prime suspect in his wife Sarah’s disappearance.

An upstanding member of the community, Michael Polly is inscrutable and likes order and precision in his working life.

Until, that is, he encounters super bright, gutsy Detective Annie Cassidy, played by Eve Myles (The Crow Girl, Hijack) and a compulsive game of cat and mouse begins as she chips away at his veneer in search of the truth.

Beneath the surface of the mystery, lies a deeper exploration of trauma, trust and the legacy of elite institutions.

The series also stars Jennifer Macbeth, Arthur Hughes, Nicholas Nunn, Elliot Cowan, Billy Barratt, Rupert Evans, Jodie McNee, Oscar Batterham and Clare Higgins.

“As brilliant as Keeping Faith”: 9 of the best Eve Myles dramas to watch now on ITV, the BBC, Netflix and more

From playing a manipulative boss to a royal dresser, these Eve Myles dramas prove why she's the queen of the screen.

Well knowing how these dramas are planned that could be very plausible

for the good of the school !

I’m not sure if Downside School would want to be used for filming a drama involving a school covering up crimes. Hmm
Though irl it was child sex abuse not murder, and the coverup was probably more for the reputation of the Church rather than the good of the school. Otoh they probably need the money.

Having trouble remembering - do we actually know that Mrs Polly had ended the affair? How do we know that?

I didn't understand the "keep reading" scene at all. Mr Polly isn't the most sympathetic of characters, but I wouldn't expect him to be cruel to his beloved daughter? I shall be cross if they just stuck that in for tension/dramatic effect because it just seemed jarringly out of character for Mr P.

Meredusoleil · 16/03/2026 15:43

I think it's Michael's way of hurting himself as punishment for hurting Sarah. Like a cross he has to bear kind of thing.

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/03/2026 16:08

@LindorDoubleChoc her texts said no more. Leave me alone. We are finished or Similar

Well, I suppose the alternative to sheer cruelty might be him wanting no secrets between them. But I rather fear it was mainly a plot device so that we heard the words.

moto748e · 16/03/2026 17:04

Polly is an odd name. Is it a call-out to The History Of Mr Polly? But nobody reads that these days, I'm sure. And the little I can remember from schooldays is it was a boring book about a boring man.

AlwaysRightISwear · 16/03/2026 20:35

Presumably the historic cold case is going to end up being linked. Maybe rugby boy killed Sarah and then they use genetic DNA and find his dad killed the girl in the older case?

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/03/2026 21:01

Wow if that’s true they would be a fab plot

I hope they find her daughter

How is this bloke in charge of a school?

JaneJeffer · 16/03/2026 21:11

Ad break already

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/03/2026 21:11

I still don’t think it’s Michael, but he’s certainly not helping himself by not talking to the police and doing that statement

These fancy open plan houses aren’t the best for having an awkward conversation with your furious wife with the kids listening in 🤣

the80sweregreat · 16/03/2026 21:25

I don’t think it’s Michael either, but I am usually wrong.
Its so slow though , well acted but dragging a bit.

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/03/2026 21:25

Wife aka Claire g seems quite calm

PrincessScarlett · 16/03/2026 21:25

Seems like Steven has some sort of control over Claire. The way he spoke to her, manipulating her by using the kids, telling her to give him an alibi and then not letting her speak.

I didn't think she was calm. I thought she was raging inside but Steven was controlling her.

the80sweregreat · 16/03/2026 21:29

Claire Goose is still looking good. She is obviously controlled by that Sedgwick person :(

PrincessScarlett · 16/03/2026 21:35

Brilliant response from Dylan!

PrincessScarlett · 16/03/2026 21:37

Is she allowed to secretly record Michael?

AlwaysRightISwear · 16/03/2026 21:39

Surely too soon for this to be a confession.

vincettenoir · 16/03/2026 21:40

PrincessScarlett · 16/03/2026 21:37

Is she allowed to secretly record Michael?

Anything that she learns would surely be inadmissible. She’s a walking red flag.

Shes also projecting

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/03/2026 21:41

I think she records so can listen back

not to use as evidence as such
