new 6 part series stars Eve Myles (https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/uk/lifestyle/a65948077/best-eve-myles-dramas/) (Keeping Faith) as gutsy Detective Annie Cassidy, who's investigating the mysterious disappearance of Bristol woman, Sarah.

And the chilling twist is that Detective Cassidy’s main suspect is Sarah’s husband, Headmaster Michael Polly, who's played by none other than Sherwood's David Morrissey. Genius casting indeed!

Gone is a chilling mystery focusing on local Headmaster Michael Polly, played by David Morrissey (The Long Shadow, Sherwood), who becomes the prime suspect in his wife Sarah’s disappearance.

An upstanding member of the community, Michael Polly is inscrutable and likes order and precision in his working life.

Until, that is, he encounters super bright, gutsy Detective Annie Cassidy, played by Eve Myles (The Crow Girl, Hijack) and a compulsive game of cat and mouse begins as she chips away at his veneer in search of the truth.

Beneath the surface of the mystery, lies a deeper exploration of trauma, trust and the legacy of elite institutions.

The series also stars Jennifer Macbeth, Arthur Hughes, Nicholas Nunn, Elliot Cowan, Billy Barratt, Rupert Evans, Jodie McNee, Oscar Batterham and Clare Higgins.

I’m so bloody confused 😫

The ex is Irish and the brother is Bristolian.

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/03/2026 21:33

Th ex is who she had dinner with but doesn’t want to get hurt by him again

Wow. That's quite a damning text message from Steven Sedgwick 😱

SydneyCarton · 15/03/2026 21:50

Science teacher guy is sensible about showing the diary pages to the police but is Alana going to actually do it? Steven S is looking really dodgy but is he too obvious a suspect, like Michael?

PrincessScarlett · 15/03/2026 21:52

I think Paul the science teacher is dodgy. He's had it in for Michael from the start.

JaneJeffer · 15/03/2026 21:53

He should be a detective

Or the deputy head who has his eye on the prize? Or the secretary who's in lurve with the Head? Gahhh!

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/03/2026 21:55

Say keep reading one more time

SydneyCarton · 15/03/2026 21:58

That was really cruel making her read them out. It must have been awful for Michael to hear but to make her keep on reading was awful.

PrincessScarlett · 15/03/2026 22:03

Yes it was brutal what Sarah had written. Although when Alanna was burning the pages I saw Sarah has written and underlined "I'm scared of him". Was she talking about Michael or Steven?

That's what I want to know!

Meredusoleil · 15/03/2026 22:16

It's not clear if she was referring to Michael or Steven.

dapsnotplimsolls · 15/03/2026 22:17

Also, why did she dump Stephen? Was she fed up of waiting for him to leave his wife?

He seems somewhat controlling over Alana too. Bet he took photos of the journal pages before handing them back to her.

I suppose it makes sense for Michael’s character to drive an old car, he’s not going to be into flash cars or material stuff.

DH noticed it was a SAAB - he had a couple as company cars in the past and liked them but the company went under years ago. It seems like the sort of old car Michael would drive -sort of like owners of stately homes driving ancient Volvos iykwim.

moto748e · 16/03/2026 00:29

I struggle to see any logic in Alana's reactions, but with one ep to go, it looked like they were shifting the balance from Sedgwick back to Michael with that CCTV, but I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be a third-party, as PP have suggested.

JaneJeffer · 16/03/2026 00:31

It’s a six parter @moto748e

moto748e · 16/03/2026 00:38

Ah, right, thanks. The field is wide open, then!

Wingedharpy · 16/03/2026 00:41

My theory, based on absolutely nothing, is it was Sedgwick Junior (the rugby star player) who killed Mrs Polly, either in a fit of rage or accidentally, having found out about his Dad's affair and confronting her about it.
I think Mr Polly helped Sedgwick Junior, hide the body after he confessed all to him (including news of the affair) as he didn't want his star rugby player being carted off to Borstal and sullying the good name of the school.
Sedgwick Junior's "punishment" was being suspended from the rugby team.

Have to say, that sounds very plausible.

SydneyCarton · 16/03/2026 07:15

Definitely think Sedgwick jnr is involved in some way. He looks very tortured like something is stressing him out.

I can sort of see why you wouldn’t want your father to go to prison if you’d already lost your mother but how could you live with him afterwards knowing (or believing) that he’d murdered her?

Well knowing how these dramas are planned that could be very plausible

for the good of the school !
