New series 6 which is mean to be ace !!

was shown originally in Ireland last year and now bbc have it

Enter The Walsh Sisters, which has been adapted from several of Marian Keyes' beloved novels and introduces us to the dysfunctional but deeply loveable Walsh family.

Featuring five sisters, a devout mother and a bemused father, every family will find something to relate to in the chaos that surrounds them.

Billed as a "comedy about serious things — a pacy, brutally honest and uncompromisingly funny exposé of the realities of being an Irish sister", we meet the five sisters as they’re drifting through adulthood in Dublin and supporting each other as they cope with heartbreak, grief, addiction and parenthood.

And if it's as good as Marian's books, it's going to be a truly outstanding piece of TV.

The six-part series is part based on two of Marian Keyes’ novels, Rachel’s Holiday and Anybody Out There and introduces us to a group of five loveable but chaotic sisters living in Dublin - Anna (Louisa Harland), Rachel (Caroline Menton), Maggie (Stefanie Preissner), Claire (Danielle Galligan) and Helen (Máiréad Tyers) – as they navigate the peaks and troughs of their late 20s and 30s.

It's a sisterhood full of in-jokes, hand-me-down resentments and more than a few old wounds.

But their DNA, history and shared love of power ballads keep the Walsh sisters together in the face of heartbreak, grief, addiction and parenthood.

The cast of The Walsh Sisters includes:
• Louisa Harland (Derry Girls, Renegade Nell) as Anna
• Caroline Menton (Oddity) as Rachel
• Danielle Galligan (Kin, Shadow and Bone)

•	Máiréad Tyers (My Lady Jane, Belfast) as Helen
•	Stefanie Preissner (How to Adult) as Maggie
•	Aidan Quinn (Legends of the Fall) as Jack ‘Daddy’ Walsh
•	Carrie Crowley (Hope Street) as Mammy Walsh
•	Debi Mazar (Younger) as Chaquie
•	Gina Moxley (The Patient Gloria, Here Before) as Josephine
•	Jay Duffy (Wheel of Time, Northern Lights) as Luke Costello
•	Samuel Anderson (Amandaland (<a class="break-all" href="https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/uk/lifestyle/a69662742/jennifer-saunders-amandaland-christmas-special/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/uk/lifestyle/a69662742/jennifer-saunders-amandaland-christmas-special/))</a> as Aidan

“She’s fairly shabby”: Jennifer Saunders shares “surprise” details of her role in Amandaland Christmas Special

It’s not quite the Ab Fab reunion we were expecting…

I will watch this, because I love the books, but I’m not impressed with the trailers so far. However I will reserve judgment until I’ve seen a full episode!

Sweetiedarling7 · 19/02/2026 06:15

What’s the betting this has been comprehensively buggered up?

Nosejobnelly · 19/02/2026 07:46

its a bit outing but a relative of mine is heavily involved in this. Apparently the budget was quite low compared to Rachel’s Hokiday which is coming to Netflix at some point.
I really hope it’s good - I love Marian Keyes and have read all the books from my 20s to now!

lazymum99 · 19/02/2026 08:49

I loved those 2 books it says it’s based on and not sure I trust an adaptation to live up to them

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/02/2026 08:56

I haven’t seen a trailer yet but I like her books

This is true

we know how much writers seem to change

which annoys me because if they love the book so much to make a program, why do they change it so much?

I loved the books and read them all. I’ve heard some pretty mixed reviews of the show unfortunately

turkeyboots · 19/02/2026 09:07

I watched it on RTE. Its nice enough if you like the books, but could and should be so much better given the source material.

Codyrhodesisaheel · 19/02/2026 09:10

Im
excited to watch this as the books are my all time favourite books. But I’m aware it got mixed reviews so I’m dubious.

my main concern is that the trailer makes it look like Luke Costello has been kitted out in burtons! And as a boyzone fan, I can’t wrap my head around Luke (one of the sexiest men in literature) being Keith’s son!

Dora33 · 19/02/2026 09:22

I have read the books and had looked forward to watching it on RTE, despite the trailer.
Couldn't watch it to the end of the first episode. Though it was really bad.
I wasn't alone. Some friends and family gave up on it also.

deeahgwitch · 19/02/2026 09:35

I watched it all on RTE last year.
It was ok.
I amn’t a huge fan of her books but Marian seems nice

PrincessScarlett · 19/02/2026 09:40

I adore all the Marian Keyes books about the Walsh family with Rachel's Holiday being one of my favourites. But I'm really worried that the TV series won't live up to the books. The characters are all so fantastic in the books that if they haven't got the casting right it's going to be a huge turn off.

IAmKerplunk · 19/02/2026 09:56

Love the books. Doubtful the tv show will live up to them but will give it a go.

deeahgwitch · 19/02/2026 13:58

There’s a thread on this set up in Craicnet when the show was on Irish tv. It obviously now has spoilers because the series has finished but worth reading when all episodes have been shown in UK.

lazymum99 · 19/02/2026 14:26

I have a picture in my head of all the characters from the books and I don’t think I want this spoilt by the tv show

Makes a change for you to get something or watch it before us

Love the books, hoping this is as good.

mum2jakie · 19/02/2026 22:19

I'll be watching, thanks! Big Marian Keyes fan.

I remember a tv series based on 'Lucy Sullivan is Getting Married' in the nineties but I think it was cancelled before they showed the last episode!

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/02/2026 22:27

Oh I loved that. Sure I saw the end

It sure does @Blondeshavemorefun
We get so many ITV series months later, sometimes without subtitles 🥲 and we can’t get Channel 5 🙄

The biggest change for me was its updated setting. Rachel's holiday will forever be in the 1990s to me, so that felt a bit weird. Bit I think they updated it well.

You are soooooooooo missing out with the lack of ch 5 and the dramas on there 😂😂

Watched it on RTE and really didn't like it. Has none of the warmth of the books. Characters are completely different to how I'd imagined them - Mammy Walsh is particularly awful.

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/02/2026 22:57

remember those who have seen in Ireland to not post any spoilers

bookworm14 · 20/02/2026 23:04

I love the Walsh sisters books and Rachel’s Holiday would probably be in my top 10 books of all time. I don’t know if I will watch though, as the trailers seem to bear no resemblance to the novels (wtf have they done to Mammy Walsh?) and reports from a relative in Ireland who watched it last year are not great.
