New series 6 which is mean to be ace !!

was shown originally in Ireland last year and now bbc have it

Enter The Walsh Sisters, which has been adapted from several of Marian Keyes' beloved novels and introduces us to the dysfunctional but deeply loveable Walsh family.

Featuring five sisters, a devout mother and a bemused father, every family will find something to relate to in the chaos that surrounds them.

Billed as a "comedy about serious things — a pacy, brutally honest and uncompromisingly funny exposé of the realities of being an Irish sister", we meet the five sisters as they’re drifting through adulthood in Dublin and supporting each other as they cope with heartbreak, grief, addiction and parenthood.

And if it's as good as Marian's books, it's going to be a truly outstanding piece of TV.

The six-part series is part based on two of Marian Keyes’ novels, Rachel’s Holiday and Anybody Out There and introduces us to a group of five loveable but chaotic sisters living in Dublin - Anna (Louisa Harland), Rachel (Caroline Menton), Maggie (Stefanie Preissner), Claire (Danielle Galligan) and Helen (Máiréad Tyers) – as they navigate the peaks and troughs of their late 20s and 30s.

It's a sisterhood full of in-jokes, hand-me-down resentments and more than a few old wounds.

But their DNA, history and shared love of power ballads keep the Walsh sisters together in the face of heartbreak, grief, addiction and parenthood.

The cast of The Walsh Sisters includes:
• Louisa Harland (Derry Girls, Renegade Nell) as Anna
• Caroline Menton (Oddity) as Rachel
• Danielle Galligan (Kin, Shadow and Bone)

•	Máiréad Tyers (My Lady Jane, Belfast) as Helen
•	Stefanie Preissner (How to Adult) as Maggie
•	Aidan Quinn (Legends of the Fall) as Jack ‘Daddy’ Walsh
•	Carrie Crowley (Hope Street) as Mammy Walsh
•	Debi Mazar (Younger) as Chaquie
•	Gina Moxley (The Patient Gloria, Here Before) as Josephine
•	Jay Duffy (Wheel of Time, Northern Lights) as Luke Costello
•	Samuel Anderson (Amandaland (<a class="break-all" href="https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/uk/lifestyle/a69662742/jennifer-saunders-amandaland-christmas-special/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/uk/lifestyle/a69662742/jennifer-saunders-amandaland-christmas-special/))</a> as Aidan

“She’s fairly shabby”: Jennifer Saunders shares “surprise” details of her role in Amandaland Christmas Special

It’s not quite the Ab Fab reunion we were expecting…

I just watched it. There's more detours from the books, so I'm just watching it as a drama, which it's okay as.

Tangent but the therapist/rehab manager (? Unsure of official job role title sorry) I think would have been a great mammy Walsh.

....anyone who has read the books more recently than me, I don't remember Anna and Rachel's sibling dynamic being so unhappy for both of them? I just want to give them both a hug :(

halftermhalfawake · 21/03/2026 22:21

*also I may have accidentally watched the wrong episode, so disregard anything out of sync, sorry

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/03/2026 23:26

As usual I enjoyed

I wish I had sisters

Depends on the sister op... I'm needy and chaotic like Rachel, so you might change your mind!

Rachel and Anna got closer after Aiden died in the books as Rachel helped her to see he was never coming back
In the earlier Rachel's holiday books Rachrl ,Clare and Margaret were always described as looking alike ,strong tall ,healthy
And Anna and Helen also looked alike small dark haired beautiful .

Just caught up on episode 5. Rachel is magnificent. Her revelation chat with Josephine was so raw and brought a tear to my eye. I know Rachel is a selfish addict but by god do I feel sorry for her.

This is why Rachel's Holiday is my favourite Marian Keyes book as in the book Rachel, despite her messed up life, manages to make you cry for her and want to root for her.

E6 and last one tonight

Mammy Walsh is a bitch!

She doesn't take a day off does she.

JacknDiane · 28/03/2026 22:11

Rubbish ending really

PrincessScarlett · 28/03/2026 22:17

The ending kind of leaves it open for another series.

I thought it was quite emotional tonight. I admit to shedding a few tears for Rachel and Anna. Both actresses have actually been brilliant in telling their stories. I'm going to read Rachel's Holiday (and the sequel Again Rachel) as I love the character.

PrincessScarlett · 28/03/2026 22:19

Loved Helen's line to mammy Walsh that she hates them all. Throughout she has come across that she hates all her daughters. She's not like that in the books at all.

Helen was actually very funny as well. She had some great one liners.

FionnulaTheCooler · 28/03/2026 22:28

I felt really sorry for Rachel. The car accident wasn't her fault at all, no wonder she relapsed and got drunk when Anna keeps telling her it's her fault Aidan died.

I really felt for Rachel
Not just tonight
I get it. I get why she turns to something else
I felt her pain

halftermhalfawake · 28/03/2026 22:58

Ohhhhhh The Rage is upon me...why do I keep watching this.

Not just being blamed for Aiden's death but her own mother telling her she looked like a prostitute, forcing her to hold a glass of wine and generally being a bitch to her. And Claire even referred to Rachel as being the family fuck up. They're all absolutely vile to Rachel so don't blame her at all for relapsing.

Codyrhodesisaheel · 29/03/2026 08:19

I’ve just finished listening to Rachel’s holiday again and to be honest in that book, Mammy Walsh is a real bitch so perhaps the portrayal was right.

there were at least three occasions in the book where Mammy was shouting at Rachel and blaming her for everything - when she was in cloisters, when she came out of cloisters and slept with Chris and then when she realised Rachel was wearing a thong. In the book it was mammy walsh screaming at Rachel that made her relapse.

i think in subsequent books mammy is written muc nicer which is why we all felt she was portrayed wrong. I was genuinely surprised to listen to the audiobook and realise how accurate the portrayal was

PrincessScarlett · 29/03/2026 08:45

@Codyrhodesisaheel oh that's interesting. I haven't read Rachel's Holiday for some years but I read Anybody Out There (Anna's story) very recently and Mammy Walsh is not a bitch in that, she's quite comical. And in the sequel to Rachel's Holiday she's not a bitch. I'm going to re-read Rachel's Holiday and probably change my mind that Mammy Walsh is 100% accurate in the TV series 😂

Codyrhodesisaheel · 29/03/2026 09:16

I think that’s why it surprised me so much @PrincessScarlett cause she’s great in anyone out there and my favourite mistake.

but even in again Rachel she does offer Rachel some sleeping pills (which were in the fruit bowl) if she wanted one, so there was elements of her always being a bit “blasé about the addiction.

RH is the second Walsh book isn’t it? So perhaps it’s the first iteration of mammy Walsh and Marian adapted her as the books went on

halftermhalfawake · 29/03/2026 10:52

For me it was just the casting that felt a bit off, I'm accepting it's a different thing from the books, and that's helped but I still prefer the books, MK has a spark even in dark subject matter that's missing from the series

Yeah I think you’re right. If there was some signs of that twinkle that mammy has or even some scenes of her actually supporting Anna it could have changed so much

Daytimetellyqueen · 29/03/2026 11:32

I loved it - thought it was a fantastic series & accepted it as different to the books (which I also loved!)

Do you think?
I have read Rachel's holiday several times its my favourite book of the walsh sisters
I think Rachel being an addict was a big shock to Mammy walsh and yes she was horrible at times but after her relapse she was very kind to her
And they were all very proud when she has bern clean and sober for a year.
