ITV The Lady release date, cast and what to expect from Sarah Ferguson drama

The Lady is a four-part limited series delving into the rise and fall of the former Duchess of York’s royal aide.

On sun and mon for 2weeks at 9pm

Sarah Ferguson (https://www.mirror.co.uk/all-about/sarah-ferguson)’s former dresser Jane Andrews worked for the royal for nine years.

Three years after she was let go, she murdered her boyfriend Thomas Cressman.

At the heart of ITV’s The Lady is Jane Andrews, the working-class woman from Grimsby who got a chance of a lifetime when she was hired to work as Sarah Ferguson’s royal dresser before her life spiralled out of control.

She is brought to life by actress Mia McKenna-Bruce who has starred in How To Have Sex, The Fence, Get Even and Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials on Netflix.

McKenna-Bruce is joined by actor Ed Speleers - famed for his roles as Stephen Bonnet in Outlander, Jimmy Kent in Downton Abbey and Rhys Montrose in You on Netflix - who plays Jane’s boyfriend and victim Thomas Cressman.

Meanwhile, Sarah Ferguson is portrayed by actress Natalie Dormer, remembered for playing Margaery Tyrell in HBO’s Game of Thrones (https://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/aemon-targaryen-knight-seven-kingdoms-36703680) and Anne Boleyn in The Tudors on Channel 4 (https://www.mirror.co.uk/all-about/channel-4).

What to expect from The Lady on ITV
Described as a “working-class girl from Grimsby”, Jane Andrews’ life changed forever when she answered an advertisement in the magazine The Lady.

However, no one expected that following her time working for the royals that Jane would go on to murder her boyfriend Thomas Cressman, hitting him with a cricket (https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/cricket/) bat before stabbing him in the chest.

We haven’t seen much of the boyfriend yet. She only just met him. Unless people have watched the whole thing?

She was nasty to the girls in the factory too. Of course IRL she might not have been.

I've read around the case so it'll be interesting when I watch further episodes of this.

Meredusoleil · 25/02/2026 12:29

I think people are talking about 2 different boyfriends maybe? There was one at the start of episode 1 where we see Jane giving him a BJ in her car. But that's not the same one she ends up killing, is it?!?

JaneJeffer · 25/02/2026 12:38

Or maybe they meant the one whose suits she chopped up?

I need to start learning the characters’ names 😅

Julie Bindel believes her and says there is evidence she was telling the truth.

And? JB has an agenda and the ‘evidence’ seems to mainly be that JA told the same stories to the psychiatrists who believed her.

Gloriia · 25/02/2026 14:29

As an aside I loved the accent change, I know someone who went to London sounding like a Northerner and returned sounding just like JA in this. Must've ued the same elocution tape Grin.

It’s funny, your posts make it sound like you have an agenda too.

There are plenty of people out there whose agenda is disbelieving women and girls about sexual abuse so I don’t think it’s a bad thing that there are also people like Julie and other feminists whose perspective is the opposite.

Meanwhile, none of us know what happened. If he is innocent of the claimed abuse and gets his name blackened that’s awful. If she was raped and then gets disbelieved about it that’s awful too. And the BJ scene was very clearly designed to kick off the story by establishing her as a slapper who gives men sex for what she can get out of it.

Have watched the two episodes. I remember this at the time and the link with ex duchess of York which is the main bit I remember being in the papers.

I'm enjoying the recreation of the eighties and the music. Not convinced by the actress playing Fergie. Not big enough, not 'horsey' enough and somehow not clumsy enough in her movements and the hair seems very wrong.

I agree with this, the walk is right, but not the figure or the hair.

3678194b · 27/02/2026 20:41

Jane sure gets to meet some wealthy and well connected men!

I've no chance in meeting any men 'naturally' these days 😂

It is set 30 years ago though, another era!

Of course she wouldn't have.

JaneJeffer · 28/02/2026 18:15

I was thinking today about something that puzzled me back at the start which I forgot to mention! When she applied for the job it had been advertised in The Lady’s Digest which doesn’t exist but then why name the programme after The Lady magazine which does and would have been where the ad was placed?

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/02/2026 18:16

fergie used to call her lady Jane
