This is a thread for those who have watched the series and are desperate to post and discuss. It seems that the no spoilers free thread is being inundated with those who understably love it. Post away! I love it.

We only have his word for it that she was fencing goods.

how else would she have got a multi million pound book? She’d hardly have just picked it up at a car boot sale

@CaptainMyCaptain Yes I get that - maybe it's that fact that seems creepy to me, that it's just sat there all that time like Miss Havisham, getting dusty and unloved.

Yes...isn't that the point?

Yes the atlas, forgot about that.

The multi million pound book was illustrations of birds. A famous art book.

It’s possible it was from a house clearance.

Somewhere I've seen a list of other series people who liked Small Prophets and the Detectorists might like. I thought it was on here but I can't find it.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Was there ever an explanation as to why the Peasant, the Monk and the Knight homunculi never materialised? I know it would have been logistically impossible for the animators to create all 6 of them and weave them all into the plot, but was it ever referenced as to what went “wrong”? I’d loved to have see them all. I thought they were really cute.

Feels like a series 2 question…

I’ve got the book on alchemy that Mackenzie Crook read. Quite excited about reading it!

They most certainly are lovely and thanks for sharing @DuncinToffee

I'm a bit late joining, I just finished it. I wasn't sure at the start but I really loved it at the end and am looking forward to S2. I especially love there were multi-generational friends with no creepy sexual undertones and also that because it's Mackenzie Crook, you know that nothing too upsetting or hideous will happen. Like you know that even if the neighbour was a bit of a dick, he wouldn't come and kill the homunculi. I also liked the relationship with Micheal and his dad.

I just binged this, about three months after everyone else, and I know everyone has disappeared from this thread, but I really loved it! Amusing, gentle, well written, well acted, some big stars in modest parts, I particularly enjoyed the completely un-creepy friendship between Michael and Kacey. Just a lovely, funny, heartwarming programme. I have no idea how the writers follow it up, but I hope they do⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

the80sweregreat · 12/05/2026 18:18

I really liked this as well. It was different and a bit mysterious as well ( where did his partner Clea go to?)

DuncinToffee · 12/05/2026 18:34

It is hinted that Clea is in Canada and wrote those letters to Michael's dad asking about him.

I loved the friendship too - it's so rare to see a genuine male / friendship friendship represented. Usually you know at the start that by the end of the movie they'll be on love.
