This is a thread for those who have watched the series and are desperate to post and discuss. It seems that the no spoilers free thread is being inundated with those who understably love it. Post away! I love it.

I think it was probably their parent's (because of the Christmas room) and Clea stayed in it after they died, with Michael. The brother had his own home with his wife, his marriage breaks down and he has money worries so he's been waiting for the seven years to be up so he can claim his inheritance.

I am enjoying this thread! No one I know IRL likes this amount of nit-picking detail when they discuss a tv series, but MN always delivers.

the80sweregreat · 22/02/2026 13:51

If only Roy had realized that the mega rare and expensive bird book was amongst her items from the lock ups , I bet he would have made friendly contact ages ago! The fact that Micheal hasn’t had much to do with him is obvious isn’t it.

oooh - interactive version her:

Carolina parakeets are plate 26.
All the birds are life size - hence the pages having to be so big - to fit the big ones on!

I forgot to add my thanks for posting this link. I've really enjoyed looking at the book, as I used to draw birds a long time ago (pen & ink). I really should get back to it.

ETA: I wear glasses too! 😎

I certainly don’t think of anyone who works in retail or hospitality as losers. Quite the opposite in fact. Having done both types of jobs , I found it really hard dealing with the public looking down at you most of the time !
I was just wondering why they hadn’t bought their own place together , or if there was another back story to this.
May have been easier to just rent from family , although it seems Roy was surprised there was so many things in the house, so obviously he wasn’t visiting them much! I’m probably over thinking it , but it’s obviously plot driven having him owning the property now.

I thought she owned the house. Roy was claiming the house as his inheritance because she had been gone for 7 years and was assumed to have died .

That's how I understood it too.

the80sweregreat · 22/02/2026 17:54

Yes. I was out right ( rightly so ) about the house.

I think it was the house they grew up in (hence the Christmas room).

It could still have been hers.

I read that when you posted it before.

SyntheticFluff · 22/02/2026 20:17

OK. So why did you say it could still be hers, as if I'd said the opposite?
I don't know why I'm debating the this so much anyway 🙃. For the purposes of the plot it was made clear that the house didn't belong to Michael and Clea's brother had a claim on it and that's that.

I'm not arguing with you. It's possible she grew up there with her parents and bought it or inherited it and it became hers it doesn't really matter.

the80sweregreat · 22/02/2026 20:35

The house was a big part of the plot though ! I do hope they clear it up , or maybe Michael will buy out Roy with the lottery money and rent it out to Kacey ! ( a peppercorn rent!)
Once she’s back from Oz of course

placemats · 22/02/2026 21:13

I think the garden was more aligned to the plot.

I'm not arguing either - you're basically saying what I said although I think it's pretty much certain rather than possible 👍.
Anyway, I wonder when the new series will be aired?

Not for a while sadly. I guess they have to actually make it first. I'm not sure it's even got the go ahead yet.

CherryogDog · 23/02/2026 07:44

I binged this on Saturday, absolutely loved it! My only regret was not waiting until the new series comes out.
I'm a soppy old bag, and cried at the end when Michael didn't get to find Clea.
Total curve ball and unlikely theory, Elliot is Michael and Clea's son, come to find his dad.

Elliott gets called into his house by his dad in one episode. Michael has been so insular for the past several years that he hasn’t noticed the little boy growing up… but there’s obviously something there… I can’t wait for the next series!

Stop motion animation takes a very long time to do. The BBC need to give MC the green light to go ahead now!

If anyone is interested in the source information about Homunculi, there’s a fascinating page on Wiki that is linked to from the Small Prophets page and other links to interviews with MC where he talks about it. When I started reading about Homunculi I also went down a rabbit hole. Fascinating stuff.

CaptainMyCaptain · 23/02/2026 08:15

There's a lot more to know about Elliot although I don't think he's Michael's son. He's a bit too old to be circling round the cul de sac on his bike for one thing, he should be off an out somewhere.

Gloriia · 24/02/2026 12:27

Loved the quirkiness of this, the music the gentle vibe, the weird little creatures.

But, sorry Michael is a wanker, absolutely oblivious to how he comes across. It is no wonder Clea left.

An arrogant smart arse at work, poor MC's jobsworth character just trying to do the right thing and off Michael goes everytime the care home rings. Why do they ring him constantly?!

That said I did like the added silliness of it all the bird book, the meteor, the overinvested neighbours. Why was Bev in her PJs so much?!

the80sweregreat · 24/02/2026 12:58

Bev was an interesting one as she seemed far more empathetic than Clive and rather sad. I think that was because she was married to him though

FamilynotMaiden · 24/02/2026 18:33

@Gloriia You don't suppose Michael is grieving and quite rightly distraught about losing his much-loved partner, rather than a "wanker"?
