Worth a look?

I've just finished it and have a couple of questions (which don't involve spoilers)...

Why is Robyn several years older than Dara and Saoirse - I thought they're meant to be the same age?

Why does (adult) Dara have her head covered in every scene?

I thought the same about Robyn it was bugging me when they said the were all 38

The actress who plays Robyn is older than the others, but they are all meant to be 38 and from the same year in school. I noticed they put Robyn in more upmarket clothes and hairstyles than the others and she was presented as quite an affluent married mum type. Maybe just suits the character? I know a woman just like that who presents as older than she is.
I’ve seen Saoirse Monica Jackson in a few things and as a pp said, she’s quite annoyingly typecast, but apart from that I really enjoyed the show after taking 2 episodes to get into it.

Did anyone else pick up the throwback to Derry girls.

That the nun from our lady immaculate who moved to teach in Belfast was Sister Patrick. The nun from the school in HTGTHFB is Sister Patrick.

There were a lot of nods to Derry Girls, it was brill! My personal favourite was the mural!

I've watched 6 & I think that that would have been enough.

I'm guessing the "reveal" will be quite dark.

Greta & Jodie sold to a cult to be abused?

YourOnMute · 04/03/2026 22:05

Watched two episodes and it's not for me. The acting ruined it.

Violetparis · 04/03/2026 22:06

I gave up in the middle of episode 3, too much screeching and OTT fast talking and unfunny over acting.

Cornishclio · 04/03/2026 22:43

I started it but can’t get into it. Loved Derry girls which Lisa McGee also wrote but so far this is not doing it for me. Two episodes in so far.

MarthaBeach · 04/03/2026 23:04

We enjoyed it, although I got a bit fed up of the three friends' constant shouting at each other and found the blonde friend really irritating (her only mode seemed to be Angry with a bit of Sarcastic).
It was a clever plot (if wildly improbable - luxury yacht explosion goes unnoticed by police or anyone?), I especially loved the character of Feeney (Saoirse-Monica Jackson).
I'm curious for the next season (which was set up in the final episode).

Sgtmajormummy · 04/03/2026 23:12

I’ve watched five episodes so far and had to force myself to keep going.
The three women are like The Three Stooges, overacting, slapstick and playing to the cheap seats. I’ve seen Saoirse in much better parts and The Overspending, Overdrinking Discovery driving neglectful mother is more than a bit of a cliché.

I love the singer from The Commitments as the ever-present hit woman, but how could Gard Liam drive from Donegal to Dublin in the time it took to broadcast the Late Late???

Oh Lord does it not all get wrapped up in this one?

ThePoshUns · 05/03/2026 07:05

As much as I liked it I hope they don’t do another series. I hate it when they milk an idea for series after series.

Goldfsh · 05/03/2026 14:17

I enjoyed this a lot but felt that 6 episodes was enough - there wasn't really enough PLOT for the extra two episodes.

Enjoyed the ladies and the hot garda.

HermioneWeasley · 06/03/2026 20:04

I enjoyed it, it was unexpected. And I want to know what’s in the pink bag

midnights92 · 06/03/2026 20:05

Loved it. Mad but great.

MrsBridgetMcClusky · 09/03/2026 22:13

I know we're supposed to suspend our disbelief in these programmes, but how did Robyn stay so immaculate?! 🤔 😆

Untailored · 09/03/2026 22:21

Liked it it didn’t love it. Should’ve been six episodes, it went on too long.

diddl · 10/03/2026 10:22

did it cross anyone else's mind that Greta killed the man who had the pink bag?

And he said the others will be along soon. Who were the others? A very loose thread I'm guessing will be picked up in season two

Ohpleease · 10/03/2026 10:53

Thought it was very good, very funny, slightly far fetched but will let that slide because at least it felt fresh and original

Yes, so were we supposed to think that "the others" must have done it?

Piglet89 · 15/03/2026 16:47

Caoilfhionn Dunne was the weak link when it came to the gurning on screen. In later episodes, I almost had to fast forward through her lines, she was so OTT.

Attended Gaiety School in Dublin, apparently. Where one can only assume they’re not taught acting for screen.

Top-flight London conservatoires wouldn’t let that out of their doors.

FionnulaTheCooler · 22/03/2026 10:08

I've just finished it, like others I liked it but didn't love it. Some of the middle episodes were a slog to get through but I persevered as I wanted to find out what happened in the end. I absolutely loved Robyn as a character, I laughed out loud at her "What does he want" line as the Jesus figure appears around the corner. It took me ages to realise that her husband is the hot priest from Derry Girls.
