In the Netflix comedy-thriller How to Get to Heaven from Belfast (2026), created by Lisa McGee, Dara (played by Caoilfhionn Dunne) frequently wears a head covering, specifically a hooded top or a scarf, as a character quirk rooted in her persona as an "inhibited" and anxious "carer".
Radio Times +4

  • Characterization: Dara is portrayed as the anxious, shy, and deeply religious "moral compass" of the friend group. The head covering contributes to her look as someone trying to stay hidden or protect herself from the world, fitting her inhibited nature.
  • Physical Comedy: Actress Caoilfhionn Dunne uses the character's clothing and posture for physical comedy, often appearing shielded or trying to shrink into herself, frequently observed "peering around a door" or looking overwhelmed.
  • "Attack of the Catholics": The character experiences "attacks of the Catholics" (intense anxiety or guilt), making the covering a visual manifestation of her shielding herself from guilt or unwanted attention

Nothing funny about it, can’t believe it was written by the same folk as Derry Girls

Daytimetellyqueen · 19/02/2026 22:20

*McGee - can’t believe I got Lisa McGee’s name wrong!

I enjoyed it, although very silly and way too much gurning. Interesting when you find out more about the women disappearing Greta.

Loved that they filmed a scene in front of the Derry Girls mural!

One woman wrote Derry Girls, not a group of people.

Six episodes in.... I love it - it's very funny

Just finished it. Loved it. The comedy element decreased as the series progressed and the drama took over. Greta’s story was really poignant.

And Liam, I so would.

As a NI person born and bred, one thing I would like to point out - A member of the Garda would NEVER walk around Belfast in his Guard uniform. There would be a riot (even if he was hot)!

ZenNudist · 21/02/2026 04:50

Probably one of the better written series on Netflix.

Kendrickspenguin · 21/02/2026 22:20

We have just finished this series. There were lots of really good bits. The characters and the story were excellent. It was just a bit long. Do you think Lisa McGee has a put upon James/ Jim in her life? Both James in Derry Girls and Jim in this are expected to put up with quite alot.

I’m on episode 6 and after a promising start it really feels like it’s dragging now.

Teenagerantruns · 21/02/2026 22:32

We really liked it, never seen derry girls though.

ThePoshUns · 21/02/2026 22:34

I’m on episode 2, it’s very much like Bad Sisters, which I loved . I also enjoyed Derry Girls. Am liking it so far. I like the actress who’s playing the kidnapper possibly?

TheBeaTgoeson1 · 22/02/2026 07:09

Loving this, so dark compared to what I thought.

Pace is great, enough laugh out loud comedy. Fantastic to have a female led cast, great acting, snappy script.

Scenary gorgeous and direction and camera work great!

Cant wait to see how it progresses! On Ep 3.

I was looking forward to this but just finished it tonight and I have to say it was a bit shite tbh.

I gave up and am re-watching Derry Girls instead. It is so brilliant.

IHadaMarvelousTimeRuiningEverything · 24/02/2026 21:08

I loved it but had never seen Derry girls.

Started to watch Derry girls afterwards because I loved it so much and I'm almost at the end of series one but I'm not feeling it. Hope it gets better.

Are you watching Derry Girls on Netflix or Channel 4? They changed the music for Netflix & it’s not as good as the original music on C4 (assume to appeal to an American audience?!) although it is still very good.

ListenToAlfDubs · 24/02/2026 21:26

I loved it but have never seen Derry Girls so maybe different expectations. The dialogue was great. I wouldn't call it slapstick - that makes me think of Fawlty Towers or something (as referenced earlier). This has more of a Hot Fuzz vibe.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 24/02/2026 21:29

I had high hopes for this but the acting was just so OTT that I couldn’t get into it at all.

but he did keep loosing bits of it.

I enjoyed it.

BillericayDickie · 27/02/2026 07:42

took me a while to realise Greta was Lizzie from peaky blinders

whattheysay · 27/02/2026 08:23

We loved it. The first episode I thought it was a bit strange, dh said he wasn’t enjoying it so I said I’ll just watch to the end of the episode but we carried on watching it. It’s bonkers but very good.
