Worth a look?

Watched up to episode 5….it still amateur with a big budget, hoping the whole “Northern Ireland” reference point will give it bonus points

Rayqueen2026 · 17/02/2026 18:53

I watched 3 episodes and really enjoyed them but once it got to the abroad episode girl in room with the woman being kept it went downhill for me, it went from the right amount of comedy and intrigue to just all flappy and stupid so I switched off

AngelsandAliens · 17/02/2026 18:58

Yes watch it , I really enjoyed it

The gurning in front of a camera: it’s like all of these actors, once transplanted into a role not far from home, feel like they need to behave like they’re in Don Giovani at the ROH, mugging away for the folk in the cheap seats, lest they lose any of the DRAMA.

they are all trained actors and if they did a 3 year course, acting for screen will have been part of it.

So, put it into practice, FFS.

Piglet89 · 17/02/2026 23:36

It’s like Emma Watson in the first two or three HP films.

moving your eyebrows is not acting, Emma, love.

Just finished it - loved it! Thought it was quite sad in the end, but also great fun - totally loved all the humour & laughed out loud multiple times over.

LittleLlama · 18/02/2026 00:28

I enjoyed it. A lighthearted and fun Murder Mystery. The humour was perhaps a little predictable in places but other times quite poignant. I would welcome a second series.

I started it but really can't get into it at all.

I'll go back to it, sometimes that works, but at the moment I can't even get through episode 1

Same here. I trued to like Derry Girls as well, but it wasn't for me either.

Fraudornot · 16/02/2026 23:19

I really like it - I think it got better (and funnier) as the episodes went on

Ah good, I'll carry on with it then!

violaolivia · 18/02/2026 05:23

Agree on the overacting. It worked in Derry girls because the script was funny and they were meant to be excitable teenagers. Not as effective on grown women! I wish it had been more dry and toned down, I think it would have been funnier.

I am watching it now.

It is McGee’s difficult second album.

Actually her third (that I know of). A few years ago she wrote a brilliant series called London Irish. If's still on All 4 it you want to watch it.

As a child, niece, grandchild and in law of a very extended London Irish family I found it very funny and very accurate (although they had more sex and swore more than most of my family) ,n

MagicMarkers · 18/02/2026 07:53

I finished it last night. I liked some of it, but found some of it confusing and pretty unpleasant.

Shamalama56 · 18/02/2026 08:01

Its try hard and derivative

Boolabus · 18/02/2026 08:02

I am watching it 5 episodes in and I am really enjoying it, it is just mad, slapstick anything can happen. I really like the main characters I think they are well cast. If you are expecting Derry Girls you will be disappointed it is not a comedy more a dark comedy to me it has a Fargo vibe. She wrote when in uni so long before she wrote Derry girls

RampantIvy · 18/02/2026 12:37

I think that explains why I'm not keen. I prefer more subtle, gentle humour.

I dislike Mrs Brown's Boys and didn't enjoy Fawlty Towers either.

@MagicMarkerswhat bits did you find unpleasant?

FredaMountfitchet · 18/02/2026 17:31

Nah left it after 1 episode
Not a patch on Bad Sisters
Couldn’t decide if it was a comedy or drama - neither aspect worked

aveeeno · 18/02/2026 17:35

I thought it was atrocious (and I really liked Derry Girls). Does she tell her actors to gurn like that or does she pick natural-born gurners?

I was about to say the same. Loved London Irish and enjoyed Derry Girls (bar the gurning). This new one has its moments, some funny, some poignant but I found the plot endlessly silly and the series was too long. The relationships between the three women is nicely portrayed however and would have benefited from more airtime.

Rainbow1235 · 18/02/2026 18:14

I thought it was great .

Faircastle · 18/02/2026 22:42

I've just finished it and have a couple of questions (which don't involve spoilers)...

Why is Robyn several years older than Dara and Saoirse - I thought they're meant to be the same age?

Why does (adult) Dara have her head covered in every scene?

Empress13 · 18/02/2026 22:49

I gave up on it plus I found some of the accents hard to understand

PinkSheepCries · 18/02/2026 23:19

I think I enjoyed it overall though it was probably a couple of episodes too long.

I didn't find episode one brilliant, but I'm glad I stuck with it. I've enjoyed the rest. I'm on episode 7 so one more to go. I think I was expecting it to be like derry girls, and not a crime series. On the whole I think it's good.

I’ve seen it as Lisa Magee’s homage to Murder She Wrote (as Erin loved it in Derry Girls, so I always assumed Lisa Magee loved it too).

Thought it was brill!

@Faircastle- they’re all the same age - what makes you think they’re not? No idea why Dara always has her head covered. It’s not mentioned - just assume it’s her style!
