I watched the first episode. Thought the leads were very good - well-cast. Had no idea that Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis was a chain-smoker!

Watched the last episode today and found it so moving at the end when Ann read the funeral poem over the final scenes. “I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn rain”. And the image of them in the sand dunes. It was compelling tv but also a real tragedy and a needless one. All those devastated people left behind. Poor Ann and poor Caroline Kennedy who went on to suffer an even more profound pain with the death of her daughter. How she has carried herself through life with all she has endured, I don’t know.

Ugh. I have just finished watching the final episode. That was so emotional. My heart breaks for Carolyn and Lauren’s mother.

GellerYeller · 28/03/2026 08:52

I also was glad they covered the aftermath.
The actresses playing Ann and Caroline did a an incredible job.
I did feel that the actor playing JFK Jr had shades of a younger Brandon Flowers at times but it was a compelling series.
There are rumours of a Love Story 2 featuring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton.

KiIIingMeDeftly · 28/03/2026 09:15

Yes, I can see the resemblance to Brandon F. I thought he was very good, especially considering it was his first proper acting job. He mastered JFK Jr's slight speech impediment and his accent only faltered once or twice. There's no escaping the Canadian sooorry or abooot!

Apparently Love Story is now the most-watched show ever to stream on Disney Plus. Taylor and Burton could be a treat too but imagine the pressure of being cast as a young(ish) Liz!

This was a great series but the final two episodes were dull

perhaps could have been compacted into 6 episodes

The crash scenes didnt seem realistic. Why weren’t they screaming?

I think the scene ended before they realised they were in real trouble
no definitive reason was found for the crash. I’m pleased they didn’t fictionalise it in gory detail

I was moved by Carolyn’s mother’s reading at the funeral I will have to look that up. Got a lump in my throat.

I have loved it. A subject I didn't know much about. Thanks for the signposting towards The Nerve/Maureen Callahan podcast - got Ask Not on order.

I think it would have been better with 6 episodes. 9 is a strange number.

Interesting article in the Guardian today. I'm very late Gen X (born 1980) but I can't remember them so I definitely wouldn't expect anything younger to know them: www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2026/mar/27/love-story-disney-plus-most-streamed-drama-ever-jfk-jr

Just finished this and absolutely loved!

So many of CB’s styles and outfits were those that myself and friends were trying to recreate in the late 90’s, that and the music made me feel very nostalgic.

Thought JFK Jr was a selfish entitled prick and had been successfully groomed to take what he wanted from life and those around him.

I work in DV and though I know there was a disclaimer put out ahead of each episode that scenes were dramatised for entertainment, the decline of CB’s MH and increasing agoraphobia, the escalating isolation, his risk taking, gaslighting and public fights, it certainly seemed like a very abusive relationship.

Was however hooked from start to finish and would love any other recommendations from this time with similar styling, writing.

I love it too @Clearinguptheclutter & I've heard it delivered far too many times but it really sticks with you, "Do not stand by my grave & weep' it's called Immortality

I’m five episodes in and loving this. Was it really his first acting job?

Yes - he was a model and had been trying to make it as an actor for 10 years before he was cast in Love Story.

Amiacoolorwarmcolour · 30/03/2026 21:24

I’ve just finished watching it. How very sad.
My one criticism is that it was too long. Didn’t need 9 episodes.

Wow! He’s fantastic, and looks so much like him.

thanks everyone for the book recommendations, I’ve added them to my reserve list at the library!

I read a bio a while back called the kennedys and it’s absolutely mad how much tragedy has fallen on one singular family.

Recklessismymiddlename · 30/03/2026 22:17

Watched first episode on Sky but finding the dialogue hard to understand/follow (I’m slightly deaf) and no subtitles. Will try episode 2 and then see.

I really enjoyed it – I’m old enough to remember the couple, although I don’t remember being that bothered about them – she definitely wasn’t anything like Princess Diana status in the UK.

Although it was great fun to watch – I’m still not convinced this was the greatest love story of all time. He came across his just a bit dumb and entitled, and a bad pilot too, nothing like as strong as her sister.

As for her, there’s not a lot to suggest she was much more than just a very pretty fashion PR. Just like Meghan Markle claiming she didn’t know who Prince Harry was when she met him , it’s hard to believe that CB at some level wasn’t attractive to JFK for his status – that’s only natural. She played The Rules (as did I religiously) and they worked but then she broke the cardinal rule of never being needy. I really don’t understand why she gave up her job – that was the big mistake, surely if she wasn’t that bothered about him being the big man she would’ve stayed at Calvin Klein instead of becoming a sulky housewife overnight. She didn’t want to support him in his career so why didn’t she want one of her own?

Also, as everyone has said they could have saved a whole lot of trouble if they simply bought another flat with a more private entrance… Did that not cross anybody’s mind? It did make me smile that they would be mobbed by paparazzi on certain occasions but others they could go to a bar or a marriage counsellor and snog on the street without anybody seeming to notice .
