I watched the first episode. Thought the leads were very good - well-cast. Had no idea that Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis was a chain-smoker!

I've just started watching the first episode. I don't really know much about them but I'm finding both characters pretty unlikeable. Is this series a good representation of them?

The episodes have been coming out one at a time, on Fridays.

Thanks! For some reason I thought it was only four episodes, so when by the start of episode 4 they were only just getting together I was like huh!

btw if you love the songs of the era like me, there is a Spotify playlist with every song on there so far. Just search up ‘Love Story playlist’ and it should come up!

@LambriniBobInIsleworthISeesYaI am sorry I’ve just repeated what you’ve put, and you’ve been good enough to actually link it!

Really enjoying it. I actually liked Naomi Watts as Jackie, thought she played it well.

I walked past their old loft apartment in TriBeCa the other day and there was quite a crowd there taking photos.

Also, who made Ethel head of the family? Surely Teddy and his branch of the family were the most senior of the Kennedy family at this time?

I think Teddy was always seen as a liability. Ethel never remarried after Bobby died and I think due to the brood of children they had she was always seen as the matriarch once Rose (?) Kennedy died. That was always the impression I got.

I find the Kennedys fascinating so I’m enjoying this.
I do remember them being of great interest to the tabloids and Carolyn was seen as a style icon.
Its interesting that Carolyn has been portrayed as playing it cool, with mention of ‘The Rules’ (if anyone remembers them!). I’d always assumed she came from a similar background which seems not to be the case.

KiIIingMeDeftly · 06/03/2026 14:43

Really enjoying this and love the soundtrack! The leads are both very good and apparently it's his first acting job. I thought I'd seen Sarah Pidgeon in other stuff before as she looks really familiar but then i realised it's just that she looks like Natascha McElhone!

Triskellion75 · 07/03/2026 09:25

I'm really enjoying it so far, very easy on the eye.

There's a book called Ask Not about the Kennedy women and those connected to the Kennedy men which is quite the eye opener. Made me look at Carolyn in a much different way from how she'd been portrayed in the media previously.

I read that too. Quite an eye-opener, as you say. Not much fun in being a Kennedy wife or mistress. If what the book alleges happened following Carolyn's death is true then the whole family is rotten.

Though I can't help having some sympathy for Caroline Kennedy, who has lost her parents, all her siblings, several cousins and now her daughter.

ExquisiteSocialSkills · 07/03/2026 09:36

The soundtrack on Spotify looks good.

littleburn · 07/03/2026 10:01

Just settling in to watch the next episode. Slightly hungover, DC with ExDH for the weekend and I have coffee to hand 😄

I’ll definitely be picking up Ask Not and keep meaning to read Carole Radziwell’s book too.
(So many Carols in that family!). I really recommend Rosemarie Terenzio’s Fairy Tale Interrupted. She was John’s executive assistant at George (and pops up in Love Story). It’s not a critical take, but someone who was there in the midst of it all.

My jaw was constantly dropping. Any time I see Robert Kennedy jnr all I can think about is his poor ex wife.

Jackie Kennedy is a rare photo of her smoking a few days before prematurely giving birth to a son who died a few days after he was born. At the time the risks weren’t known

Sad they didn’t get the rights to use Prince’s Forever in my Life for their first dance.

I listened to the audiobook of Ask Not: The Kennedys and the Women They Destroyed it was horrifying but eye-opening listen on the disgusting treatment of women by various Kennedy men
Just like a PP said every time I see RKJ on TV I shudder and think of his first wife.
I'm enjoying Love Story but I just keep remembering how the book described the later stages of this relationship being toxic with JFK jr being so cruel so it jars a bit.

Daryl Hannah has written an op-ed in the NY times as she’s not a happy camper.

I haven’t read it all, as it’s behind a paywall, but this has been in other publications.

The character ‘Daryl Hannah’ portrayed in the series is not even a remotely accurate representation of my life, my conduct or my relationship with John,” she continued. “The actions and behaviors attributed to me are untrue. I have never used cocaine in my life or hosted cocaine-fueled parties. I have never pressured anyone into marriage. I have never desecrated any family heirloom or intruded upon anyone’s private memorial. I have never planted any story in the press. I never compared Jacqueline Onassis’ death to a dog’s. It’s appalling to me that I even have to defend myself against a television show. These are not creative embellishments of personality. They are assertions about conduct — and they are false.

“I know that as an actress I will be in the public eye. I’ve endured a number of outrageous lies, crappy stories and unflattering characterizations before,” her op-ed continued. “I chose not to battle them but to focus on my work and respect my loved ones by keeping my private life private. But my silence should not be mistaken for agreement with lies. Apparently, my discretion makes me a target.”

Pasta4Dinner · 07/03/2026 23:10

Sound track is the best bit. I must say the guy playing JFK Jnr seems to even have the same kind of chest hair.
Ive seen the wedding photo a million times but didn’t realise it was a private wedding, for some reason I thought it was in NY.

Triskellion75 · 07/03/2026 23:15

Totally off topic but I hadn't realised that Darryl Hannah is autistic. I also always forget JFK jnr went out with Madonna and Sarah Jessica Parker.

Housewife2010 · 08/03/2026 07:25

Maureen Callaghan, the author of "Ask Not" has a Youtube channel "The Nerve" where she regularly discusses the Kennedys and this series.

The author claims that the Kennedys were vile to the Bessettes following John and Carolyn's deaths and that they told them that she wouldn't be interred with him in their family burial plot.

But in the end they (and Lauren) were cremated and their ashes scattered at sea.

I’ve started watching this and I’m enjoying it. The soundtrack is great. I’m glad Daryl has spoken out as it really doesn’t depict her in a good light.
One thing which struck me is how Caroline married quite a staid, solid, non glamorous man, JFK jnr always swanned around with very attractive, glamorous women, then wondered why his relationships never worked out.

Nofeckingway · 14/03/2026 00:01

Disappointed that the most recent episode after they were married doesn't have any soundtrack . And they just don't seem as sexy as before . Poor Caroline Kennedy is portrayed as a bitch now . Her son Jack Schlossberg has spoken of it . Bad timing as one of Caroline daughters has died leaving very young children.

Thank you so much for sharing. What a horrible representation. I find DH fascinating - diagnosed ASD as a child in the 60s and written off by professionals who suggested institutions. Her parents supported her in acting and modelling. I feel that Love Story doing a disservice to ASD women really. I'm ASD with hyper focused interests which is how I see DH - her interests have led to her campaigning for a range of issues.

I am finding the rest of Love Story excellent. Love Naomi Watts as Jackie is excellent.
