I know!! Its mental! When my DD (20) starting seeing her boyfriend last year I wasn't allowed to call him 'her boyfriend' because he hadn't yet officially asked her to be his girlfriend. WTAF? Despite the fact they were seeing each other several times a week, not interested in anyone else, talking constantly on facetime, and had been doing this for 2 months, they were not yet boyfriend and girlfriend although they were exclusive. To me its the same bloody thing.

Back in my day we just went on a couple of crappy cinema dates then one would just 'ask the other out' they said yes or no and bobs your uncle. Boyfriend and girlfriend 🙄😂

Ha ha the same back in my day - though actually I think we asked each other out and then that meant we were automatically boyfriend and girlfriend. Leanne was right when she said there are so many layers - there seems to be dm’ing, chatting, dating, exclusive, bf/gf - to me it just gives people longer to keep their options open whilst shagging from the start. Much simpler in my day <old fart>

What I can gather being boyfriend and girlfriend means you are in a relationship so therefore cheating not allowed. But being exclusive also means cheating not allowed so how is that not the same? 😂Its so confusing isn't it? But I agree, I guess 'dating/chatting' and not being exclusive means you can also be doing that with other people too.

That's why I always get so confused when they go off on one when the person they are coupled up with is 'having chats' with someone else. Surely if you are 'open' and not exclusive then that is allowed and okay then? Why the drama?

I have no idea when it all became so complicated but I think us old farts had it nailed down and did it best 😜

Yep, far too many layers these days. All designed for people to piss about and not make up their minds. Options stay open for as long as possible.

Yeah it's ridiculous. At least Sean and Lucinda just sacked all of that off and went straight to boyfriend and girlfriend, and without a ridiculous proposal as if it's an engagement.

I also hate how guys seem to think these various layers means they can behave exactly how they like and the woman can't get upset even after months together because they're not technically in a relationship. The woman is still allowed to think you're a prick mate, whatever interim label you've put on it.
