David Tennant had found his person! Tony is so perfectly evil.

I was going to say I first saw DT do evil in Jessica Jones, he was scarily good at it

Snapespeare · 29/05/2026 19:18

A slightly weaker episode for me - but I liked the extras in the golden gauntlet - In my mind there was a Frank Bruno adjacent character, a Babs Windsor and Rod Hull and emu, but with a startlingly bad ponytail. The tennis player might have been meant to be Martina Navratilova?

Bad Samaritan 2018 film
Politicians Husband 2013
Secret Smile 2005
for when "Rivals" is finished and you need an Evil DT fix Wink

I watch this and smile all the way through. 80s really was my decade. I had forgotten the very high trousers, the short shorts and loved spotting the Dunlop Green Flash in the tug-of-war today!

Weirdly I didn't like him playing Tony in season 1. I presume it is me thst has changed, as I love him in season 2.

Danny Dyer is a revelation. So well played. I do hope him and Lizzie get a happily ever after.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 29/05/2026 20:27

👍 thank you @70isaLimitNotaTarget

BestIsWest · 29/05/2026 20:32

Yes, the Dunlop Greenflash! I have a pic of me wearing them in 1986. I loved them. I was also delighted to see a schnauzer pup! He’s a spaniel in the book.

It’s A Royal Knockout was 1987 wasn’t it? That was a bit of a disaster though.

Tony is so evil. I loved the scene with the video tapes.

Great to see Monica getting more development. I’m loving Dame Enid’s get up too.

The stand out for me though is Katharine Parkinson. She can say so much with an ‘oh’ or a ‘mmm’.

Snap on Barbara and Martina!

Will catch up with the thread. Just popped on to say what a total shit Tony is!

Also my favourite line in this week's episode was "What a hoot" 🤣

Watched the most recent episode.

Declan is so hot. does he look different from season 1? I don’t remember finding him so hot 😆.

I thought Maud felt sorry for Monica & would back off from Tony but evidently not.

Do we think Declan & C slept together? I thought no.

Im so annoyed about the tapes, grrr

binliner · 30/05/2026 06:05

Oh & Per-dit-tah. I thought it was pronounced Per-ditah if that makes a sense

binliner · 30/05/2026 06:08

David Tennant as a badie, watch Des

I thought it was ambiguous on first watch, but having to pretend I hadn’t seen it already whilst watching with DH (😂) I thought maybe they had DTD? Especially the scene where Patrick sits awkwardly between them.

Netaporter · 30/05/2026 06:36

Also, is there a more pathetic man than James Vereker? Absolute cock 😆

binliner · 30/05/2026 06:54

My pearl bath things 😆

I used to love those as a kid

anxietyispartofme · 30/05/2026 07:41

Yes Declan and Cameron did sleep together. She suggested they go upstairs and then it showed a shot of the house with the light switching off. It was pretty obvious and It happened in the book.

Side note - Patrick’s 21st was New Year’s and Taggie’s is September. Declan and Maud really didn’t waste any time.

binliner · 30/05/2026 08:08

obviously not obvious to me!

I disagree, I don’t think it did happen in the book either.

In the book, Declan is tempted, Cameron asks him to go upstairs, he says it would complicate things and then invites the barman to sit down between them for a chat which frustrates her (fuck, fuck, fuck, or rather no fuck she thinks!)

Declan then find out from the barman about an Irish writer living nearby and goes off to telephone him and goes to bed as the writer agrees to an interview in the morning before Declan flies home.

Sweetbeansandmochi · 30/05/2026 09:59

Can we give Claire Rushbrooke (Monica) a standing ovation for her performance in Episode 3 👏 sublime and heartbreaking.

As already mentioned the tape slow mo scene to finish out the episode.

And Declan riding on that horse - this lady loves a rug!

I haven’t read the books so I am not using that as a comparison yardstick but for me, this is pitch perfect television that has respected and celebrated the intelligence, sexuality and humour of a predominantly female middle-aged audience. 🥰

Declan on that horse was so Poldark it was untrue. Loved this for Aidan Turner. More horsey manliness.

ChessieFL · 30/05/2026 10:46

And in the book Taggie turns 19, not 21, so there’s a bigger age difference between her and Patrick. They’ve aged her up a bit in the TV programme.

I took it as deliberately ambiguous & assumed the awkwardness the morning after was because of the conversation/attraction

I didn’t think they slept together either. I thought it was the last night and Declan stays up drinking whiskey, discovers the playwright living locally and then misses the flight home for Maud’s performance.

Notonthestairs · 30/05/2026 11:58

If they have slept together they’ll need to adjust where Cameron’s ends.
