I’ve just seen that the release date for The testaments will be 8th April on Disney+
I loved THT, yes it lost its way a little over the seasons, but still a stunning bit of telly.
I’ve read The Testaments a couple of times and I will be watching, anyone else?

New episode dropped. Currently watching

Really liked this episode, the tension is building! So far I think it’s a good series.

Really enjoyed this episode and the visceral feelings it provides. The creepy dentist, for example.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 15/04/2026 19:53

I was surprised that the dentist was allowed to be alone with a girl, without a chaperone.

PersonIrresponsible · 18/04/2026 09:46

Agreed. But who is going to stop him? Everyone assumes the assistant would be present, the mother would be accompanying him, he's a pillar of the community....

And besides, no one will believe her anyway. Just the silly figment of a teenage girl's imagination.

I've lived in highly segregated societies and they fall victim to the same thoughts that I've heard here too.

I suppose medical staff are seen as beyond reproach. In THT the (creepy) doctor/ sonographer who did June’s pelvic exam and offered to inseminate her was unsupervised too, I’d of thought that was definitely a situation which required chaperoning.

Fomfue · 21/04/2026 15:54

Will Agnes be tested to see if she is pure before marriage ? will they then find evidence of the dirty dentist. Is Agnes at risk of getting the blame ?

and how come Daisy had a radio (?)/headphones in bed with her ? she could never hide anything like that and surely for that to be found risks huge punishment (but doesn't necesarily giver her away as Mayday)

Has anyone watched Unchosen on Netflix?

there are 6 episodes (I’m only the first) and it’s based on the cults in the UK, and it’s men are in charge, women are subservient, so a little like handmaids tale

MightyGoldBear · 22/04/2026 16:24

I think where I have been able to binge THT I'm finding the testaments really slow 🙈

I got bored after a couple of episodes…maybe you will find it more interesting

Oh was it not great. Maybe I'll give it a go but won't invest too heavily.

Fomfue · 23/04/2026 09:22

It's a bit slow.

The Testaments should end with June being reunited with Agnes/Hannah. That would tie up the THMT and TT and make for a cracking ending

Soubriquet · 25/04/2026 18:06

I’m watching THT again and I’m wondering, why do you think they allow the handmaids to carry out executions? Since they are supposed to be meek and obedient, surely showing violence like that is a bad thing? Or do you think the aunts know the women need to rage?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 25/04/2026 19:43

In the book, the Handmaids were allowed to carry out the executions because they needed to let off some steam, if I recall correctly, @Soubriquet.

Thanks!

I guess I will have to reread the book.

Have to say, I'm really enjoying The Testaments and thanks for recommending Eyes on Screen - it poses so many intriguing questions

Clearinguptheclutter · 27/04/2026 22:37

I’m quite liking it

some things don’t make much sense though, why are there so many older commanders that need a bride, and with the possible exception of Justin, where are all the teenage boys? It would make an interesting spin off to have a separate story about them

I noticed how the weather seems always pleasant. In THT the weather was virtually always grey and often with quite a bit of snow. Obviously gives THT a darker edge

LotusLovett · 28/04/2026 01:44

I was thinking about the boys too. I know the whole point of THMT and The Testaments is about the women but it did make me wonder what happens to the boys. I also wondered why so many older commanders needed a bride.

PersonIrresponsible · 28/04/2026 12:26

The boys have been sent off to fight on the front I suspect.

But in hugely segregated/polygamous societies, too many boys are a problem - see the FLDS communities, for example. They are largely expelled from the compounds and encouraged to explore the world before settling down. Most don't come back.

Rabbithill · 28/04/2026 16:44

There are theories on reddit about why there are loads of single older commanders - including that they bump off their own wives when they fancy a new one.

Soubriquet · 09/05/2026 13:07

Very quiet on here…

I felt sorry for the girl Daisy set up to take the fall for the radio

It's been a very slow burn, so not that much to discuss really! I'm finding it quite frustrating.

JaneIves · 10/05/2026 00:40

There is another thread running, although I’ve not seen it in a while.

I’m enjoying the series so far, it could do with a little more pace though.

I was open mouthed on the last episode, do love a face from the past!

It has been a bit slow, I’m assuming they are planning on multiple seasons so are trying to eke it out a bit.
