If you enjoyed The Handmaids Tale, will you be watching The Testaments?

I’ve just seen that the release date for The testaments will be 8th April on Disney+
I loved THT, yes it lost its way a little over the seasons, but still a stunning bit of telly.
I’ve read The Testaments a couple of times and I will be watching, anyone else?

I also wonder what makes you a Martha, an aunt or a wife? I’m assuming not bleeding makes you unworthy and therefore reassigned

Do you mean the Justin who is Daisy's boyfriend? The actor is I believe in his early 20s and is convincing as a teen. He's not 38 and to me doesn't come across as 38.

OK 38 was an exaggeration! Maybe 24. But he really doesn’t look like a teenage boy. At first I thought he was grooming her and assumed he was an adult from her school who had bad intentions!

Or if you have a friend with Disney they can sign on to your tv and be “away from home” You might have to do some epic binging though.

I've just watched the first episode. Enjoyed it but I was surprised Daisy went to sleep listening to her radio, wouldn't it be spotted by an aunt waking her up in the morning?

The Testaments isn't in the same league as The Handmaid's Tale i agree, but I enjoyed it all the same. In my mind Attwood wrote the sequel for fans of the tv show, and who would blame her, success and popularity are probably just as important to author's as they are to anyone else.

Why are they getting their periods so late? The plums are 15 at least.. is it to minimize the yuk factor when they get married off

I binged on all three episodes on Wednesday. Loving it!

I thought similar although I know many do start their periods later. I started at 11 so 15 does seem older to me. Maybe so it seems less like marrying off children 🤷🏼‍♀️ They still very much are children especially the way they have been "raised".

I thought the same, I wondered if it could be linked to the fertility crisis that caused Gilead to rise to power in the first place?

Thanks so much, I looked at Eyes on Gilead and was disappointed that there weren't any new episodes about the Testaments!

Trying not to read any spoilers as I haven't started watching yet.

I did not enjoy watching The Handmaid's Tale after the end of the first series tbh. I loved the book and probably would have preferred that they stopped at the same point as the book did.

I have read the Testaments and enjoyed that a lot too, so I'm hoping they will stay fairly true to the book this time 🤞

Anyone else surprised by the amount of girls in the school since there is supposed to be a birth rate decline?

I wasn’t sure about The Testaments - I’d fallen out of love with the last couple of series of THT - but I’ve watched the first three episodes, and loved them. The glimpses of the lives of girls in Gilead in THT were fascinating, and I really wanted to see more about them!

But even before Agnes the birth weight was extremely low. June was the only one on the maternity ward when she gave birth

I probably need to reread The Testaments as I rushed reading it.

It was mentioned that highcommanders need to stay close to the capital. I think that was put in to explain why there are so many there.

I reread the testaments recently and tbh I wouldn’t. It just makes the timeline really difficult to understand. In the book we start off with Agnes at school then we skip ahead 7/8 years to Aunt school then we meet Daisy/ Nicole when Agnesis 24 and Daisy is16.The ages are all wrong for Daisy to be Nicole in the series but she has her backstory from the book 🤯

It’s already been mentioned, but another plug for the Eyes on Screen podcast. From the same podcasters as Eyes on Gilead. I’ve just caught up with the 3 podcasts, I enjoy hearing their opinions and dissections of episodes.

I've watched the first 3 episodes of TT... great so far. The girls are a little too accommodating to their lives/regime though and I don't think that would be the case.

how often are episodes being released ?

I can see how girls who have been raised from birth, or from a very young age, within the Gilead regime might be scared into conformity, @Fomfue.

Apparently the remaining episodes are being released weekly, on a Wednesday.
