Can’t see a thread. Anyone watching?

This has to be the worst group of Traitors across any of the seasons.
Zero strategy. Paudie a loose cannon liability. All of them drawing attention to themselves so early on…

LittlePotteryBird · 29/01/2026 08:02

I watch it with subtitles as I’m not familiar with Irish accents. But when the contestants speak actual Irish the subtitles don’t translate that to English which is a bit daft. Eamon used a word in episode 4 which I had to assume from context meant balls 🤣

I’m not too keen on SMS as a presenter really, seems to me she’s playing Sister Michael. I don’t enjoy her outfits like I do Claudia’s but at least she’s not Alan Cumming.

For heaven’s sake, subtitles are auto generated and won’t be offered for a language with a tiny number of speakers.

What struck me was the laudable absence of tears and people swearing on their mother's lives that they're a faithful. Irish people have more cop on.

This is what struck me when I watched it. I am in Ireland so saw it last year and I do remember thinking there was a difference to the UK contestants in that the Irish ones were way more open with challenging each other all the time not just waiting for RT and also not expressing undying love for each other and crying so much, and yes a lot more swearing but I am used to that living in Ireland. I also think they were less open about where they came from etc, with Ireland being so small there is about 2 degrees of separation here and undoubtedly someone will know you or your mum, granny, cousin so best not to say too much about yourself

Yes, exactly. Though I definitely wondered whether the bits about ‘Oh, you’re from X — you must know my cousin Y’ stuff just ended up on the cutting room floor because I imagine there was loads of it.

But I definitely remember someone talking afterwards (might have been on Uncloaked or just in an interview after the whole series had ended) about how they’d lied about where they were from and almost been caught out because one of the others had worked nearby and kept asking about whether some pub had closed down.

It might have been Andrew pretending to be from the place his wife is from and Eamonn the ghastly Garda having been stationed nearby at some point.

Sorry someone pissed in your cornflakes this morning.

The subtitles depict the Irish language words when they are spoken, so the softwear or whatever it is recognises this language with a tiny number of speakers as you put it. I don’t think it would be a massive leap in technology for the same softwear to offer a line of translation underneath so we can all understand what’s being said!

I wish they had sub titles.

They have subtitles on the BBC3 broadcasts

If Eamonn said liathroidi then that's the Irish for balls.

honeyrider · 29/01/2026 12:30

Currently listening to a national Irish radio station and the show is discussing the pearl clutchers who've complained to the BBC about the cursing on the Irish Traitors. Jesus wept.

CharlotteRumpling · 29/01/2026 12:32

I like the cursing and the Irish expressions.
I agree with Eamonn that Paudi lacks liathroidi!

Peridot1 · 29/01/2026 12:38

I’m having to translate a bit for DH. He is used to the swearing though after 30 years married to me!

Yes. People are laughing at the Hyacinth Bouquets.

What's their problem? We're speaking the language they gave us! 😉

they are as bad as the traitors in the first Australian one - they were all identified pretty much straight away 😂

Is that a joke?
the first series was ages ago, they are on the third series
and it’s not actually a spoiler because they were identified in the way of drawing attention to themselves ….

We know they get identified early now thanks to you!

A lot of us are working our way through the library on iPlayer so yes a spoiler for me and others who haven’t seen the Australian one yet

LittlePotteryBird · 29/01/2026 21:53

I agree with @Fruitpastelsyum it is a spoiler. We can’t watch every program ever made as soon as it is aired! Personally I would never discuss an outcome/plot of a program unless the thread title specifically warns ‘spoilers’.

ah thank you!

we need to start a new thread with nite about no spoilers inc other series

ShowDownTime · 29/01/2026 22:18

Can all you lovely RTE viewers make your own thread to talk about this? We know you’ve watched it all and so everything you say is a bit spoilerish or risks being so. This thread is for people watching along on iPlayer which is two episodes every Monday. PLEASE!
