Thought I'd kick it off so we have a new thread for the final leg

Old Thread for the people what likes it all neat 'n' stuff.

OP posts:
PortBlacksandRegeneration · 04/07/2008 12:46

Agree re: it-all-never-really-happened-cop-out ending would be awful!

Cybermankyscotslass · 04/07/2008 12:58

What d'ya think?
Thanks for that!

CaptainKayHarkness · 04/07/2008 12:59

No, these last four eps are RTD's handiwork entirely.

I hate LotTL, so, I certainly don't want that kind of ending, but I did think it was a nice take on the reset idea - that fact that a limited number of people still lived that year, which has been explored in interesting ways in the fic communities.

Gotta love Dave Ross (Did you see the 'Vote Dave Ross 08 banner someone did? )

I don't think, from what I've heard, that it's going to be anything nearly as pants as '...and it was all a dream' only with sci-fi sounding cobblers. Golly, I recall the crushing disappointment last year, after Utopia and the Sound of Drums, and then LotTL played out and it was just so, so hopeless and depressing and cheesy. I knew I was supposed to be moved by what I was seeing, but I felt like crying with disappointment more than anything else.

I'm hoping for something between the proper scary of Parting of the Ways and the high emotion of Doomsday. With added fanwankery and big twists involving Donna.

I don't ask for much, me.

PertweeAndLemon · 04/07/2008 13:05

I was going to suggest Osterhagenkeyscotslass, but Cybermanky is a work of genius.

I thought DT's accent in Tooth and Claw was supposed to be an in-joke -- level one joke that the Doctor puts on an atrocious Scottish accent to pretend to be Scottish, with the extra layer of absurdity for those who know he's Scottish.

Cybermankyscotslass · 04/07/2008 13:13

I know, but it still made me cringe! Did love the episode though.

serenity · 04/07/2008 13:49

65 minutes of fanwankery followed by climatic end of season fangasm?

Ok, then RTD was talking bollocks in the last DW Confidential when he said that even he didn't know what happens next. I took that to mean he wasn't the writer, but I should have learnt by now not to believe anything he says, lol.

serenity · 04/07/2008 13:52

Ohhhh have you seen, there's a new clip on the BBC site It's got someone in it who we haven't seen for a while.....

here

UnquietDad · 04/07/2008 13:54

I am hoping for this to be included, as it was about all that was missing last week.

serenity · 04/07/2008 14:05

There will be, and I bet it flys too

PertweeAndLemon · 04/07/2008 15:41

I'm still half-hoping for Lawrence Miles's cyborg Benjamin Disraeli...

serenity · 04/07/2008 16:37

This is quite interesting, but potentially hugely spoilery, if accurate. I read the ep12 one before I watched it, and it was semiaccurate, but it's mainly educated guesswork

DoctorDoctorIveBeenCaptured · 04/07/2008 17:47

I keep thinking about the Eddie Izzard sketch about Doctor Who (it's JackieNo, btw). DH and I often quote this, even in these days of feistier heroines.

DeathOrPlumbing · 04/07/2008 17:48

But I also like this name (from the same sketch). But nobody will know who I am with either of these, so I'm going to change back, I think.

UnquietDad · 04/07/2008 20:43

Telegraf does its 10 best stories here. Nothing especially controversial, although I'd have chosen "The Aztecs" as a Hartnell, and I'm slightly irked that the Sylvester McCoy picture they have chosen is of him in Colin Baker's costume (not even from the right year, let alone the right story!)... And while I'm moaning, the Tom Baker photo is about 3 years too young as well.

RustyDaviesBear · 04/07/2008 20:56

Wot, no Pyramids of Mars?

ChanJackieTylerNo · 04/07/2008 21:07

Hmm - I've never really seen any of the pre-Pertwee ones (and tbh I don't remember many of them). I'd have had Pyramids of Mars in there, definitely.

UnquietDad · 04/07/2008 21:10

It's naughty but you can watch the old black-and-white Whos on the Choooob

ChanJackieTylerNo · 04/07/2008 21:12

Thank you - I may well do that .

PerseRaniSnape · 05/07/2008 08:40

first squee of the day, right here...

SQQQQUUUUUUUUUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

Cybermankyscotslass · 05/07/2008 09:49

We watched LotTL last night again. I am sure the captured Toclovane (sp?) said "the darkness" was coming. Do you think that applied to this series too or just a coincidence?
Today is going to drag, isn't it?

TennantbellesMum · 05/07/2008 09:58

I think after last year some sort of reset is probably not going to happen, had sort of forgotten that's how last year ended. I like the idea that was on a link someone posted that the Daleks aren't using their exterminate setting, they've got a new transport setting and they replaced The Doctor with a clone (don't think I've explained that as well as it is on the link)

Love the Cybermankylass, can't believe I missed that!

OOOOOOOH the clip! Sarah-Jane was on it! I think it must be right about the transport setting!

"this new doctor... later goes off with Rose into the sunset where they will be eternally happy"

Noooooooo! Hmmm could be the one River Song met then they don't have to ever worry about bringing her in...

Really random though and probably been done before at the time, but looking through the pictures reminded me, did anyone else notice that Jack's old boss called him "John" in I think it was Fragments?

wessexgirlinthefireplace · 05/07/2008 10:06

Haven't posted on this thread before, but had to pop on and say I can't remember when I was last more looking forward to a TV programme.

Dh has a very complex theory all worked out, but my main concern is what the odds are on a Doctor/Rose snog.

Cybermankyscotslass · 05/07/2008 10:28

I can't believe I never thought of it either...fit's nicely dosen't it?
Saw the trailer clip again last night, with a little extra add on of Captain Jack on BBC News last night.
Having to Sky+ it as I'm going to tea at the outlaws tonight.

TennantbellesMum · 05/07/2008 10:32

I'm going to Lichfield for the Medieval Faire today, I'm all on my own as Tink has gone to Nanny's and her Dad is going to London. So I must be back in time!

Cybermankyscotslass · 05/07/2008 10:45

We wont be back till about 7.30pm, then I have to get three mankies to bed.
I wonder if dh would let me cry off for being ill?
