She's 86, so I suppose she's allowed to take it a bit easier. Harrumph. She's been great. Her replacement has to be able to hold her own against Paul Hollywood. Any ideas?

Dame Prue Leith leaves The Great British Bake Off

She has been a judge on Channel 4's baking competition alongside Paul Hollywood since 2017.

I think it needs to be a proper bona fide baker / chef, not a presenter type - that’s what Noel and Alison are for. And someone with strong credentials to stand up alongside Paul, who thinks altogether too much of himself and like he’s head judge.

Monica Galletti or some less well known but industry respected person. I really like Nadiya but I think there’d always be that “Paul was the judge and she was the contestant” hierarchy.

I don't like Prue so glad she's going. Needs to be a chef or baker. What about Jane Baxter? Had to look her up because I'd forgotten her name but she's on Saturday Kitchen regularly. She's one of those authoritative women who could easily handle Hollywood. But they may need to go for a known name.

Jo Brand please!!

Needs to be a professional baker or chef.

CourageCamille · 21/01/2026 18:44

Jane Asher did cakes and TV and I bet she wouldn’t be cowed by Paul.

Nancy Birtwhistle - all day long. Real Mary Berry vibes combined with the experience of being a former winner

noooooo. i’d stop watching if it were her

I just think of French and Saunders taking the piss out of her party cakes

He’s been in it since the beginning.

I know, but he didn't turn into the insuferable twat with the handshake bestowing upon you and the worship me face until later on.

Needs to be someone who really loves pud. Be nice to have someone totally new.
I do enjoy Rav a lot on junior bake off but think Paul would trample her.

sesquipedalian · 21/01/2026 18:57

I don’t care for Nadiya. I love Cherish because she knows what she’s talking about and takes no prisoners. We need someone who’s an expert to take over from Prue - someone who really knows what’s what as far as cakes are concerned.

Blingismything · 21/01/2026 18:59

Another vote for Andi Oliver, I think she’d be great.

Monica Galletti! She has real “cheffy” credentials and in the hotels series she did handled Giles Coren really well (so could handle Paul!) but is also soft and warm enough when engaging with the people on the show! She’s also up for a good laugh!

I find her way too serious

Alpacajigsaw · 21/01/2026 19:18

Andi would be good

C8H10N4O2 · 21/01/2026 19:28

Delia is too old (according to her - she has switched to writing full time) but I agree it needs to be a professional baker/chef. I’ve only seen a few episodes of the professional version but Cherish seems a bit too stern for amateur bakers.

Most of the other names listed are already involved in other shows as well as their own businesses so I guess it would be which of them wants to duck out of another show to join Bake Off.

I can’t see Nigella being interested, Andi Oliver might be a better bet. Mary Berry was very much known for baking and Prue was not but has been good so a chef rather than baker should work. Maybe someone a bit different - a writer who does TV work such as Georgina Hayden or Olia Hercules who both have a lot of pastry/baking in their books.

Dartmoorcheffy · 21/01/2026 19:31

Monica would be fantastic. I like Angela hartnett too.

I love UC too! And Bake Off.

I think Nadia would be amazing. Or the fabulous Ravneet Gill who does the junior one.

Ravneet Gill is fab on junior bakeoff. Think its time Paul shuffled off too if Im honest.

CurlewKate · 21/01/2026 22:12

How about Chetna Makan?

ginislife · 21/01/2026 22:28

Anybody else more shocked that it’s been 9 years since Mary Berry finished ? I might have gone with 4 !!

Eggybreadwithnuts · 21/01/2026 22:32

Andi yes, I love her she's brill.
Sure I read tonight Nigella is the replacement

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 21/01/2026 22:36

If they can't find anyone else, I would be happy to sit in a tent and eat cake, and get paid for it. They would have to pay me more than Pru because I don't like Paul very much.

caramac04 · 21/01/2026 22:48

Lorraine Pascale would be great.
Andi Oliver or Nancy Birtwhistle would be good.

Oh I really like Angela hartnett. She’s so dry and laconic.

RedRiverShore6 · 22/01/2026 06:13

Daily Mail reporting that it's Nigella, don't know how true this is

I like her but she doesn’t like dessert, so wouldn’t be right

Yes, I was trying to remember if that was the case, I had a feeling it was but couldn’t remember where I heard it.
