I'm blaming you lot, I'd forgotten it was on until I saw this thread. Now I'm frustrated and stressed and it's all your fault, damn MN!!!

dizzydixies · 11/06/2008 22:02

great, I'll bring the irn bru & full fat coke, you bring the chocolate for desert

thewiltedrose · 11/06/2008 22:03

Right im off to watch extreme makeover on uktv style! tara!

sheepgoMEEP · 11/06/2008 22:04

just because you give your baby formula doesn't mean your baby will be big arggghh

dd2 prime example of this and so is dd1.

bit at giving juice at 14 weeks though

misdee · 11/06/2008 22:06

dd1 wasnt big. she was formula fed from 6 weeks.

micci25 · 11/06/2008 22:06

thats what i thought re the juice and jo's mum worried he will be bullied for his weight so takes him swimming and feeds him a massive pile of smiley faces and fishfingers coated in about 5 scahets of ketchup and all washed down with a slush puppy!? thats really going to help him isnt it?!

am not convinced there was anything mean or callous about Joe's mum

I am more inclined to believe that she doesn't know any better and has been let down by her own upbringing and the health visitors etc who should be showing her the error of her ways

did nobody notice that she wasn't in the pool herself? maybe she has issues that prevent her from taking part - she could be extremelly self conscious too

I don't think its fair for her to be judged completely from what is a snippet of her life in a sensationalist programme and its sad that she isn't getting the guidance that would help improve the quality of life for both her and her son

micci25 · 11/06/2008 22:12

agree re educating her better, but it doesnt take a nutritionist to tell you that smiley faces and gallons of ketchup are going to add to a weight poblem!

misdee · 11/06/2008 22:14

she says she c ant take him swimming due to the reaction of other parents. and that i can understand. as when you take your tall heavey two year old to a toddler group for theirt age group and they try and direct you to one for 5yrs+ that can hurt.

or if you try and take them for soemowhere under 5 and everyone sneers 'yeah right' as they dont belive your childs age its hard work.

when you go for a meal and order 2 under 7year items for your two youngest and one over 7 and they try and 'correct' you and change the order to two over 7's and one under. then it grates.

dizzydixies · 11/06/2008 22:14

no it doesn't but she is quite young and would maybe benefit from some parenting advice rather than purely nutritionalist

do you think she would've agreed to go on that programme is someone had had the decency to explain to her that she was going to be portrayed as an example of how NOT to raise a child and will no doubt be splashed over the tabloids/chat magazine for the next wee while

dylsmum1998 · 11/06/2008 22:23

am a little shocked at this thread. yes the parents are feeding the children the wrong foods, but if they have been brought up not to know any better for themsleves then they arent going to automatically know different for their children. they need support to help to overcome the probs that they and their children are facing.
feeding their children chips etc doesnt help, but if its all they know then they are going to, if h.v. midwifes etc gave them the support tht they need then they can have a better future. that is what childrens centres etc are set out to help with, but if people when they go for support make automatic judgemental assumptioins about their children and them, they are less likely to go, so they dont get help they need and so the cycle continues.

my son was the same size as that little girl who was 1. he was 2 stone and 81cm tall at a year old. i had a lot of judgemental comments from h.v. and other parents/people in the street from people wanting to know why he was still in the buggy when he was obviously3, to the she must feed him crap. i didnt he ate, and still does balanced meals with lots of fruit an veg.
btw i am underweight at 5'8 and 8st so definately doesnt run through that big babies= fat mothers.
my ds is now 9 and is still tall for his age but he is not fat he weighs 5 stone and his clothes fall off him without belts!

Misdee, L is beautiful, tall yes, fat deffo not. She is a wonderful little (tall) girl, but know you must have problems with people thinking she is older than she is. Just think, she will be the one out clubbing at 14 LOL

You saw R on hols - she is deffo overweight, something we are trying to control but there is time for her to grow yet. J was the same until about 3yo when she lost all the puppy fat.

I watched this and nearly cried. That little boy had just turned 3, and was 5stone! J & R together are only just 5 stone.

Chips for a 1yr old, smiley faces and chicken nuggets and a slush puppy wont help a 3yr old so massivley overweight.

I thought I was in trouble (medically I am obese) now I realise I just need to lose a little bit in comparison.

dylsmum1998 · 11/06/2008 22:28

lol can you tell tis one of my passions?

misdee · 11/06/2008 22:30

she was very chubby until she was 3 JARM, then at age 4 it just dropped off her. she grow upwards really quickly (again) and thinned out.

R is gorgeous and reminds a lot of L at that age.

DanJARMouse · 11/06/2008 22:31

thanks sweetheart, i do worry about her though!

misdee · 11/06/2008 22:33

of course you do, you are her mum but she is lovely.

that 'sumo' baby pics of L ibn my profile, those shorts are age 4, and she was in junior size nappies at that point. size 6 wasnt available then so we moved to cloth.

DanJARMouse · 11/06/2008 22:35

she is very like Becca isnt she! Well, if Becca turns out like L then ill be happy. I will say N and L do look like twins now! Wont be long before N hits the hormones and will stretch again!

misdee · 11/06/2008 22:36

N has fluff under her arms, she is not a happy bunny.

DanJARMouse · 11/06/2008 22:38

awwwwwwwww bless her, give her a hug from me! In fact give them all a squish from me!

dylsmum1998 · 11/06/2008 22:38

just been looking at your pics misdee- your dc are gorgeous- dd2 looks like my ds did as a wee one! he slowed, almost to a stop, growing at 3

dizzydixies · 11/06/2008 22:45

misdee - agree completely with dylsmum they are wee crackers but I think I've told you that already so please don't report me as a weirdy stalker

misdee · 11/06/2008 22:46

lol dizzy.

i just wanmt to disprve the myth that big babies/toddlers turn into fat children.
