Aaaargh, the money thing drives me bonkers on Eastenders! They're apparently all skint, which is hardly surprising as most of the characters either don't work, rarely seem to work and/or probably don't earn a huge amount for what they do. That's fine in that it fits with the intended profile/set up of the show. But the same skint characters also buy breakfast and hot drinks in the caff (make it at home or take a flask to your stall!), do their weekly shop at the Minute Mart, drink in the pub/Albert/Harry's Bar most nights, get all their laundry done via service washes at the launderette, take black cabs everywhere, go on shopping sprees "Up West", can spring for weddings and surprise parties on a moment's notice (always with champagne!) and go off on long holidays and breaks (apparently with their jobs being held open indefinitely while they're away).
One minute, Kat can't afford a few k for a PI to find MySon, and the next she is heading abroad for who knows how long in search of Chrissie. Stacey had to do webcam work because the combined contributions of her, Jean, Freddie, Harvey and, at times, Eve, Big Mo and maintenance from Martin and Ricky (via Jack), wasn't enough to cover the Slater household expenses, but she could afford to rent a separate flat for weeks and pay off whatever Zoe ran up on Stacey's credit card, and now Jean's income and presumably maintenance and benefits for Charli are enough to pay the same amount of rent (and the other bills)?
Someone please make it make sense!
