My mate has a rule where she will only vote for people she’s heard of prior to the competition or someone whose fame credentials are obvious. Are they properly famous basically. Not anyone you’d have to google to find out such as George. She voted for Balvinder 5 x on Saturday

The only one I had heard of prior to the show was Alex, but I admit I am not very aware of quite a lot.

FleurDeFleur · 08/12/2025 11:50

Quite often, I haven't heard of the contestants, but it doesn't matter, I get to know them through the show.

Coffeeishot · 08/12/2025 11:51

OhDonuts · 08/12/2025 11:34

I agree. I don’t actually care who wins now. I like Bal a lot and would like to see her win because for me she has had the bigger “journey”, but I don’t think she will and it will just be predictably Amber now or possibly Karen, and I just find them both meh to watch, although they are both obviously technically very good.

There is years where the winners are just meh i think.this is one of them, I thought it was going to be Lewis i think it might be Karen or George, it hasn't been a "wow" year .

Coffeeishot · 08/12/2025 12:00

I wonder if they will shelf it for a "revamp" rather than new presenters for next year.

It wouldn’t surprise me if this happened. It’s had so much controversy in recent years.

FleurDeFleur · 08/12/2025 12:04

I doubt it, it's the BBC's flagship show, and hugely popular.

KimberleyClark · 08/12/2025 12:04

I think it needs stripping back right down to the basics. I do think they are trying too hard for a younger audience, both with the music choices and the lack of boring old waltzes and foxtrots.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 08/12/2025 12:08

They are copying the American model with stuff like less traditional and Instant Dance. Rather than paring back I can see them increasingly copy DWTS for viewers and stuff like it being TikTok friendly as the American one is apparently big on TikTok

Yeah they are just acting like nothing has happened.

Coffeeishot · 08/12/2025 12:16

I like watching bits and pieces of DWTS, and there training stuff Shirley's son Mark is funny,

Well George is evidently there to appeal to the Tik Tok crowd, who seemingly kept him out of the dance off again this week.

PeonyPatch · 08/12/2025 12:25

Who is the fav to win?
I can’t believe George is still in it

George, according to some algorithms. Tiktok.

It doesn’t feel like a dance contest anymore, feels like a popularity contest.

FleurDeFleur · 08/12/2025 12:34

It's tempting for the BBC to bring in social media stars to get the young folk, but they're going to have to be careful going forward because it'll change the outcomes.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 08/12/2025 12:35

@ilovesooty I believe George could well win. People said it of Joe Sugg and he didn’t but he belongs now to a much earlier era of social media. Almost retro by comparison. There was a little squad of them who all knew each other IIRC and there was a massive MN thread about an event they ran which was shite. They are nearly all parents now, the young fans have moved on.

It can’t ever be simply a dance contest if all competitors don’t begin with equal footing.

A far more interesting prospect would have been if the original lineup involving Dani Dyer and Kristian Nairn had gone ahead. If this had happened, a series without Lewis or Amber, Karen would’ve been the contestant with the most experience and a lot of people are overlooking her now in comparison to the others.

It is just who is the most liked and as we keep.saying for Saturday night tv that's fine. I can see how annoying it is when your favourite doesn't win.

Starandflowers · 08/12/2025 13:51

I would rather watch a night of Lewis and Amber doing fantastic dances than bland Karen and George. Will Karen actually do a traditional ballroom before the final?

Amber is my winner but since there is a lot of unfair criticism of her, if it’s not her then I want Bal to win. So ideally for me I want George and Karen in bottom two next week

Of course it is a popularity contest. Someone getting a perfect score and then being in the dance off makes a mockery of it being a dance contest.

Edited

Maybe they should think about doing normal Strictly during the winter followed up by Strictly Come Ringers in the spring or summer.

I probably wouldn't watch it but the PPs who like the ringers might and it may go some way to keeping everybody happy.

RapunzelHadExtensions · 08/12/2025 14:31

EsmaCannonball · 08/12/2025 00:39

I think, and hope, Karen will win.

One of the problems with the way Strictly does Musicals Week is that good songs from musicals lend themselves to foxtrots, waltzes and quicksteps but the producers obviously lean towards the faster or more dramatic dances and so you end up with latin numbers or tangos that feel rather shoehorned into the music. American Smooths are the dance style that came from musicals but did we get one? No.

DP said the same.

Shocking result, I overheard a group of older ladies bitching about it at coffee this morning 😂

I'm not invested much now he's gone.

It's crazy and annoying to me that the judges base it purely on one dance that night, not their performance as a whole, which Lewis will have wiped the floor. The best male celebrity they've ever had, but because they didn't like his dance in the night he went?? Bizarre.

RapunzelHadExtensions · 08/12/2025 14:31

So sorry, can someone tell me what a Ringer is??

Someone who pretends to be an amateur but has professional training.
