I have got some fantastic recommendations here over the years so want to return the favour.

Just finished Malice on Prime and its amazing. Cast is superb and just the right amount of suspense and plot twists. Jack Whitehall has reinvented himself with this one. Not a joke in sight!

I just finished episode 3 and not loving the animal cruelty to be honest. I'm worried for the snake now.

I agree. I have a similar looking dog and it was so unpleasant to watch. I always think animal cruelty in shows is a cheap device. Very easy way to cause a reaction. No clever writing or dialogue required! Just kill the dog. Sloppy in my eyes.

LovesLabradors · 21/11/2025 15:47

I thought it was good - very easy viewing and I liked JW in it. It was all the more sinister because he's such a goofy comedy bloke usually.
But yes, I'm with with you on the animal stuff - it's got so bad now, that any film or TV thriller with a dog in it makes me cringe now, because you just know... sometimes I have to google "does the dog die" before I watch. I've never watched John Wicks because of this.

SemperIdem · 21/11/2025 16:15

I thoroughly enjoyed it, JW plays sinister very well!

I can’t quite believe DD is the same age as my father in law. They have aged very differently!

Beekman · 21/11/2025 16:19

I enjoyed it very much but it is silly. Just the right level for dark nights!

pashmina696 · 21/11/2025 16:23

I finished it this week - it was very watchable and the sets were amazing but it seemed to lack suspense - or lack something like that. I am not sure if it was the music that was lacking or something else.

bottledboot · 21/11/2025 16:32

Interesting people enjoyed this, I watched the preview & presumed JW is meant to be a menacing character but I didn’t think I could take him seriously in that role do gave it a miss. He looks like a smirky tween!

UpToonGirl · 21/11/2025 17:37

I didn't really understand why they showed the sex clubs/old guy and the Thai stuff. I don't really feel it added to the plot aside from being able to allow the other husband (can't remember his name) to 'discover' stuff about JW. Also I found it weird that his sister probably knew about his conviction and still provided a reference for him to work with children? Or she didn't know but seemed to have a decent relationship with him, lived with him as his animals were there? But that despite being normal herself didn't realise he was a psycho?

AgapanthusPink · 21/11/2025 20:44

@UpToonGirlI thought they included all the sex stuff to show he was really unhinged with no redeeming qualities. I got the impression the sister just thought he had some sort of mental breakdown rather than he been convicted for murder. I was sure he was even convicted just arrested and he was very manipulative. If he was out of circulation for awhile he could have convinced his sister he was in a psychiatric hospital or something. Plus I got the feeling somehow he’d had it worse when they were younger and felt guilty. Unfortunately lots of people can be totally blind to the faults of those closest to them. Just read the relationship boards for starters.

UpToonGirl · 21/11/2025 21:00

I agree it was to reinforce he was psycho/lots of issues, I just found it a bit jarring that his whole goal with DD was so pedestrian and it seemed like they were setting JW up as a more complex character.

firstofallimadelight · 21/11/2025 22:53

I’ve just finished it. It was ok, jw is alright but not great, DD is very good. The storyline was a bit far fetched, I disliked the animal cruelty and the end was pretty vague. I expected it to be better

Appalonia · 21/11/2025 22:58

Am about half way through, loving seeing Jack as a baddie instead of an upper middle class twit! I guess, like High Grant, it's pretty easy to portray a role like that so effectively.

the80sweregreat · 22/11/2025 19:20

I am a little bit in love with JW! He has those weird eyes that I like. It is getting far fetched though ( only up to episode four ) after a good start and DD is very sexy. He is looking good for his age.

the80sweregreat · 22/11/2025 22:12

Comedians like playing baddies don’t they! There have been many, best one was Ade Edmondson in ‘ back to life’.

TheBeautifulMoors · 23/11/2025 00:30

ArMuinNaMuice · 17/11/2025 23:36

@TheBeautifulMoors JW as you have never seen him is what's in this series, honestly. Im a bit iffy about some of his other roles but its the overall mix of characters and actors with a quirky storyline added in makes this work. If you like thrillers involving mind games you'll like this.
PS I'm not getting commission from JW.

@ArMuinNaMuice I absolutely love thrillers with mind games so will give it a try.

mondaytosunday · 23/11/2025 01:56

Really? I thought the guy was such a creep from the get go and it’s unbelievable that these people would hire someone and let them move in without doing an official background check. Love Duchovny though.

Pryceosh1987 · 23/11/2025 02:53

I love jokes. My favorite comedian is boxer Mike tyson.

Oblomov25 · 23/11/2025 04:22

It's ok. Not a JW fan. On episode 3.

the80sweregreat · 23/11/2025 15:56

With these types of dramas I’m always shocked that the ones who are being targeted don’t realize that all the really bad things only started when the new comer arrived! Lol

Indigovelvet · 23/11/2025 17:27

I think the mother was clued up and I liked the fact she was adamant she no longer needed a tutor. She wanted to be alone with her kids.

TaffetaPhrases · 24/11/2025 22:26

Only made it half way through the first episode, it felt like a parody. Cliches
galore!

I don’t mean to sound like a dick and will probably give it another go. It just felt…. Insubstantial

the80sweregreat · 25/11/2025 06:08

I enjoyed it! You have to suspend belief and it was far fetched, but the acting wasn’t too bad and I was just so intrigued by his lies and how he kept managing to get out of such tight spots! Plus how nobody realized he was behind so many things too.

mrstambourinewoman · 25/11/2025 06:19

Grenko · 20/11/2025 18:13

Am I the only one who thinks JW can’t act for toffee? I’m finding it entertaining but the dialogue is extremely cringey. It all a bit on the nose. Watching it nonetheless

Edited

I thought this too. Loving everyone else but for me he’s been the least convincing bad guy I’ve seen in a very long time . It’s so off putting but adore Duchovney so I shall persevere.

interesting to see such different perspectives.

the80sweregreat · 25/11/2025 06:21

D D is very good and his wife too.

Yes re the background checks!!! Totally implausible

still binged the whole thing though

the80sweregreat · 25/11/2025 11:17

I enjoyed seeing the different locations especially in Greece.
