But he was. He was brilliant from the start.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 13/11/2025 12:34

Kelvin was partnered with Oti, and after Danny Mac it really felt like her year to win, maybe?
Was Kelvin as much of a ringer as Lewis?

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 13/11/2025 12:43

@GuyForksAndKnives yes he was but wasn’t he completely untrained and just a natural?

Here’s some info :

Kelvin Fletcher had some ballet training as a child, but stated prior to joining the show that his adult dance experience was limited to "weddings or parties with alcohol involved and in the dark".
As a child, at around eight years old, he attended a class that included an hour of acting and an hour of ballet. He mentioned that he was also playing rugby for his local club at the time and didn't mind the "poofter jibes" he received from others about his interest in ballet.
Before starting on Strictly Come Dancing in 2019 as a last-minute replacement, he considered himself an absolute novice regarding ballroom and Latin dance techniques. His impressive debut performance led some viewers to initially think he was a professional dancer, but he attributed much of the success to his professional partner, Oti Mabuse.

childhood ballet = not really a ringer

If Lewis and Amber do make it to the final, then whomever else is in it with them as won.
And wheres the fun in that?!

It would be whoever draws the most votes from the public.

We don't know whether Lewis has the support, but I will be voting for him from now on.

I live in the North East, so partly patriotic but he is also my favourite along with Karen.

Yes that was my understanding of Kelvin - definitely not a ringer, not even stage musical type ringer.

I suspect it was excellent fitness levels, genuine enthusiasm and Oti. Looking back over Oti’s years she does seem to bring the best out of her partners, even the less promising partners. When she partnered with Bill Bailey I was expecting good musicality but nothing like the dancing he achieved on the show.

I was just thinking about Strictly. Years ago I watched every scrap of dance, all the behind the scenes stuff, all the interviews and happily enjoyed it. Last week I waited until the show was half over, skimmed past a load of the dances and only watched my favourites, setting up to being able to vote at the end. I skim through ITT and I fast forward through all the rehearsal stuff. I'm caring less and less every year.
I think this year, with Amber and Lewis being so much more experienced than the other celebrities, it feels kind of 'off'. I wonder if the original contestants had taken part and they hadn't been subbed in, whether it would have caught my attention more.
These days, I mainly watch the results show, especially for the pro dance and the routine with whoever is plugging their album that week. I skim through the dance off and the results for that as well.
I'm not sure if I'll keep watching it next year.

This is a great post and very much sums up my own feelings too. My favourite series of strictly will always be 4&5 because it really felt like it had found it's groove, lots of interesting and detailed training videos, absolutely no hint of a ten until the halfway point at least, usually ganuanteed a good pro dance and James & Brendan being wrong un's to get on Lens wick. ITT was cracking with Claudia at the helm then too.

These days the tens are meaningless unless Craig gives it, the training vts practically non existent (our dance is set in a school so let's go to a Victorian museum for inspiration) and I
haven't seen ITT for years.

I still love Strictly but this has been one of its weaker years for me. Hopefully when they bring new presenters in they'll also take the chance to go back to basics a bit.

Absolutely agree, I often watch late, don't always vote and whizz through all the crap.
Wouldn't have missed a moment up to a couple of years ago.

EsmaCannonball · 13/11/2025 20:38

The iconic celebs returning to Blackpool are Jay, Danny Mac, Ashley Roberts and Layton. Two of those are iconic and two are good dancers but just ok, imo. If only we could get Aliona, Pasha and Oti back.

Coffeeishot · 13/11/2025 20:46

I saw earlier. I didn't recognise Danny Mac .

It's slightly ironic that out of the four iconic dancers, one one of them actually won the glitter ball.

I think they probably put feelers out to see who was free 😀

Oh, a ringer fest for Blackpool and Danny reprising his samba! In my opinion, he should only dance it with Oti, but it will be interesting to see which of the current pros he gets paired up with at Blackpool.

Not at all ironic that only one of them got the glitter ball. They were all finalists and produced iconic dances. I think we're in for a treat!

Pashazade · 14/11/2025 08:44

Oh I would love to see Danny do his Samba again with Oti one of my all time favourites. Have to say I agree with the comments above the show has floundered a bit of recent years. I stopped ITT when Rylan left, used to watch religiously but Fleur and Janette just don’t work for me. More proper explanations and less Nan warz would be lovely and a word with or perhaps more funding for the wardrobe dept!

BritHoward · 14/11/2025 09:21

Sorry to be a bit naive but what's a "ringer"

Of those four I’d say only Jay stands out as the others were def ringers

thought that Danny Mac samba was glorious
