Forget about the fireworks, stay in as new series of Shetland starts next week!

https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m002lt9z

I think those of us who have stuck with Shetland through thick and thin, just about filled up the last thread which is here https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/telly_addicts/4931718-shetland-season-8?page=40

Given how bad many 9pm slots have been recently this series may even be a pleasant surprise.

BBC One - Shetland, Series 10, Episode 1

The body of an elderly woman is found in the remote village of Lunniswick.

I think it’s quite telling that the £15 fish and chips have had more engagement on this thread than some of the plot points and characters 😂😂😂

People are more interested in the clothes!

To be fair the Cake Fridge attracted a lot of attention at Peak Perez and Duncan time.

It's true that one Calder's nice scarves would probably have done a better job of looking after a teenager she is using as an informant about some dangerous local drug dealers.

I can't remember from that first episode when he's with Rosh and Calder in the car when they raid that trawler -- what did the police have on him that made them able to use him for information? Whatever it was, it seems incredibly irresponsible of them to bring their informant with them to the raid!

Even the world's dopiest drug dealer is probably going to conclude that the local teenage ne'er do well who is actually sitting in the back of the car with two detectives is the grass!

And, even given that no drugs were found on the boat, it seems pretty obvious that someone would have been keeping an eye on the trawler, and would have seen Louden in the car and then running.

Which makes it incredibly stupid to then pressure the same kid into trying to find out more about the identity of the kingpin. You might as well have sent him into the fish factory with a hoodie that said COPPERS' NARK on the front.

As @TheBirchesposts “……..Even the world’s dopiest drug dealer is probably going to conclude that the local teenage ne’er do well who is actually sitting in the back of the car with two detectives is the grass.”
💯
I thought it was daft too.

I’ve recently watched Shetland from beginning and am now up to date with non-bingable series 10!

I like Ruth and Tosh, I liked Jimmy too, but he got annoying towards the end. The way he kept gazing into that nurses eyes 🤮

I love that most of Tosh is about her and not the “juggle” of childcare. Because normally that’s what women characters are about if they have children.

WTF is Ruth’s stupid red scarf, brownie necker? It’s ridiculous.

I decided that Meg the nurse was probably secretly a serial killer — she had this weird, secretive look in her eyes….

Maybe Perez is sleeping with an axe under his pillow.

SuccinctlySaidSusan · 03/12/2025 15:50

Agree that I like Tosh not being depicted as in a continual state of childcare emergency.

Hang on, is Perez now living over the brush in Orkney with a woman called Willow or a woman called Meg?
In my memory the nurse from the show was called Meg, and he went off with her.
I also thought she was a wrong'un.

TV Perez is with Meg, book Perez is with Willow.

Ah, OK, thank you. Haven't read the books. I wonder if there'll be a TV adaptation of the Orkney one(s)? If so I suspect Douglas H wouldn't come back to reprise his role and we'd have a new Perez.

living over the brush

My Mum used to say that, I remember, when I was little, haven't heard anyone use the term out loud for many years.

Peregrina · 03/12/2025 16:40

Does he get married to Willow in the book? He was going to marry Fran.
I couldn't work out from the book whether she was killed deliberately or accidentally.

I think I learned it from MN!

I’m watching a documentary about a murder on Orkney in 1994 at the moment.

I’m watching that! The thing that made me chuckle was when they said it was the first murder for 25 years. Compared to the Shetland murder rate…

Lansonmaid · 03/12/2025 22:00

That knot on the gate…..

Boutonnière · 03/12/2025 22:00

Oh - Ed….

NewAgeNewMe · 03/12/2025 22:02

It’s got to be Ed….

musicinspring1 · 03/12/2025 22:14

It feels like it has to be Ed with one episode left ? Do we think he’s involved in the drugs? His mum found out ?
im not sure what Tosh will do about Billy - I can’t call it.

CarefulN0w · 03/12/2025 22:58

I don’t know, but the storm is only going to get worse.
