Forget about the fireworks, stay in as new series of Shetland starts next week!

I think those of us who have stuck with Shetland through thick and thin, just about filled up the last thread which is here https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/telly_addicts/4931718-shetland-season-8?page=40

Given how bad many 9pm slots have been recently this series may even be a pleasant surprise.

BBC One - Shetland, Series 10, Episode 1

The body of an elderly woman is found in the remote village of Lunniswick.

Ed Tulloch, Eadie’s son and whom Ruth has a bit of a thing for we are being led to believe, is played by Irish actor Stuart Townsend who had an 8 or 9 year relationship with Charlize Theron in California some years back

Yes @Lundethe poet is the brother of the son that died at sea. However perhaps he isn’t, could he be the neighbour’s son - the man who had an affair with his mother, Eadie. Though I don’t think so, the affair started later.

I've forgotten now. Did the affair start in the aftermath of the deaths of the two young men?

deeahgwitch · 23/11/2025 09:08

I think so @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g

I have posted a cast list (from Cosmopolitan) at 9.am this morning.

Should help with character names and relationships!

And who was famously cast as Aragorn in LOTR, spent a couple of months in NZ training and rehearsing etc and was fired the day before shooting started, supposedly for looking ‘too young’, but possibly for being difficult. It’s funny that all these years on, even playing a poet with a pub, he looks exactly as grubby and battle-hardened as you’d expect Aragorn to be…

Ooooo - plot twist

Lunde · 23/11/2025 12:51

Another question - has anything been mentioned about the father(s) of the former foster kids? I wonder if sending Stevie to the mainland was to cover up a different problem.....

For example could Billy's old boss have been Stevie's father? And that is why Billy took Eadie's (social work??) paperwork ?

deeahgwitch · 23/11/2025 14:48

Interesting @Lunde
🤔

diddl · 23/11/2025 14:59

Lana's husband said the affair started after they both lost a son.

Appenzell · 23/11/2025 17:54

I'm assuming that's not the last we'll see of the paperwork that Billy hid in his filing cabinet. Maybe his wife will find it. Or more likely, suspicion will grow regarding Billy and then Tosh and Calder will find it when searching his house.

I don't think Billy is involved in the murder but it does look like he's trying to disrupt the investigation through misguided loyalty. I did think from the first episode that Billy was going to be connected to it somehow as I don't think we've seen him out of the station before.

<Sighs>

Comprehensive cast list here: (MNHQ’s AI will probably arrest it for interrogation until I plead for its release)

https://www.cosmopolitan.com/uk/entertainment/a69249040/shetland-season-10-cast/

I searched for something like this, and the tv guide ones were useless.

Who would have thought to get a better round up in Cosmopolitan.

Interested in the suggestions about who various fathers really are.

As I said at the beginning of this thread I am sure someone would make a fortune doing family trees for each series of Shetland, and then linking them.

So many of the stories lines have at their core some family breakdown or deceit.

Or maybe there is one already.

I still think Eadie's body pointing at the water means something to do with the water where her son and Lana's son died. I thought drugs would explain the money, I wasn't thinking corruption and I will be Very Disappointed if Billy was involved in anything other than trying to save the reputation of his former mentor.

xSideshowAuntSallyXx · 24/11/2025 07:28

I can't stand Tosh's gurning and stilted talking. It feels really bad this season. I used to like her character as well.

They're obviously going to get suspicious of the lovely Billy now that he's taken paperwork and go in all guns blazing because they are in charge and know what they're doing. When in fact neither Tosh or Calder have a bloody clue, Calder getting close to a possible murder suspect is inappropriate as well. It's like the whole station have had a common sense bypass this season.

If the writers damage Billy's character, I'll never watch Shetland again.

NorWouldTilly · 24/11/2025 08:50

I don’t think they will, but …

The first plot point (taking the document) suggests historic wrongdoing on his part - so inevitably the unfolding story will reverse that impression.

But if that document is genuinely crucial to the current investigation … Hmm … He’ll probably be advised to retire rather than be thrown out. (Which would be harsh if by then he’s a widower.)

daffodilandtulip · 24/11/2025 13:12

Well if this hasn't popped up in my active threads, I wouldn't have remembered that I haven't seen it since episode two. Maybe that says it all.

I don’t know. Look at what other members of the force have done. Sandy has been suspended for disciplinary stuff and once gave a suspect in a cell a pen with which he was able to kill himself. Perez had a full-blown internal investigation over his handling of the death of the death of Donna Killick, not to mention having a close friendship with dodgy Duncan whose scarf was used as a murder weapon, who’s involved a lot of dodgy dealings and who owns a property used by people-traffickers. Rhona the fiscal was actually in a relationship with Anna Chancellor’s bent lawyer who covers up the fact that her son is a rapist. Ruth keeps getting flirty with suspects and was daft enough to go alone to a welfare check where she’s almost shot by an unstable man who’s just murdered his brother.

NorWouldTilly · 24/11/2025 13:36

When you put it like that …

😂

Lunde · 26/11/2025 21:07

Who killed Stevie and Amy's mum?

xSideshowAuntSallyXx · 26/11/2025 21:15

These two are such clowns. The criminals on Shetland must be quaking in their boots.

NewAgeNewMe · 26/11/2025 21:27

It’s not great. I miss Perez…

NewAgeNewMe · 26/11/2025 22:05

I take it back. Oh Billy Billy. What have you done.

martha4clark · 26/11/2025 22:45

I thought the actress playing Stevie was excellent - really showed up the below par performances from Tosh/Sandy. Also thought she was going to drive that car off a cliff!

Me too. I thought.. finally some decent acting. I just can’t be bothered with it anymore, it’s laughably bad. The boss is absolutely crap. Can’t act at all and looks like he’s just got out of bed in every scene. Also why are Tosh and Calder so aggressive and shouty all the time? They don’t understand how to interview a suspect without shouting / being sarcastic or being aggressive. Even the scenery seems less interesting.

musicinspring1 · 26/11/2025 23:29

I hate the way Calder treated that young informant. , I knew it was going to end like that and she deserves to be in serious trouble for it but I bet she’s not going to be. He didn’t deserve that :(
