And who will be the first to be banished from the table?

Cat is getting an easy ride, Jonathan is in the spotlight and having to fight his corner and Alan is involved...she is lying low and not adding much.

Don't like that Alan and Cat would throw Jonathan under the bus so soon.

Glad Ruth has gone she was so irritating!

It is not as good as the main Traitors show.

Stephen is very clever - he tends to play it down. He went to Cambridge and got an MA in English Literature, and has written scripts, books (fiction and non-fiction) and articles.

He has a 2.1 Cambs BA, which is automatically upgraded to an MA. In the game, Clare Balding has exactly the same degree, also a Cambridge 2.1 in Eng Lit, and no one is behaving as though she’s an intellectual giant.

Not to mention Nick has a First in Geophysics from Durham and was doing his PhD in the same at Cambridge before dropping out to do comedy/acting.

Watched The Rest is Entertainment last night, and the consensus between Marina and Richard is that Stephen is playing down his intelligence in order to stay in longer.

Maybe. I wonder though if it's more that he's not scripted, and also not in control of what can happen, therefore he's out of his comfort zone and less able to wear the heavy intellectual persona he does usually.

I do think, despite not believing him to be the intellectual genius he purports to be, that his idea of voting without discussion was a good one.

CarefulN0w · 17/10/2025 10:45

The voting without discussion is a good idea, but I imagine that the producers would veto it as what they really want for good TV is a row.

That’s just made me think actually - obviously this is where celebs are different and Ruth excepted, may be holding back a little.

Exactly. And David Olusoga, though, unusually, he doesn’t have a PhD, has numerous honorary doctorates, has published and presented well-regarded work, and holds many awards, and also a professorship at the U of Manchester.

I’m not particularly dissing Stephen Fry, about whom I have no strong feelings, positive or negative, I’m just saying that a Cambridge 2.1 isn’t exactly unique, and that three other people in this Traitors series have the same or higher educational qualifications without being regarded as particular intellectual titans.

I did wonder if the producers vetoed it. But if they did, wouldn’t they just cut the suggestion in the first place?

CaveMum · 16/10/2025 22:29

Clare was so close to getting them all.

I would argue for the wrong reasons though! Sheer luck

She thought Alan simply because least likely to kill his pal Paloma. But his motivation was entirely different: he was most comfortable with touching Paloma. If, say, he'd had to administer poison in someone's drink, I'd argue he wouldn't have selected her.

And the accusing Jonathan because of the car convo is neither here nor there. He genuinely doesn't remember saying it and even if he did it was clearly a throwaway comment

The only one who's properly deduced something is Joe M.

BeaLola · 17/10/2025 11:04

Before this started I was a bit meh about Alan - didn't love him but didn't loathe him either - however loving him on this and the fact that he killed off Paloma whereas everyone thinks he couldn't possibly do that to a friend as he's so nice.

DH thinks he could only have killed Paloma because touching someone else's face would have been too obvious but I disagree - I think he could have got away with touching any of the women's faces by saying oh careful you've got a bit of something here/ a hair here or similar whereas JR doing the sane would have been more outing

I wish they would get rid of Lucy - always find her tedious, Kate is irritating but I think worth keeping in as less likely to work out traitors

I'm really enjoying it - much more so than the standard one

His reputation for being really smart started gaining ground in the years he did QI, which was mad because he was fed the answers. Traitors proves that people aren't good judges of other people in general and I think we are often mistaken about celebrities in general. I'm not saying he is stops, just that I have never seen evidence that he is the intellectual colossus he is painted. Being articulate and remembering facts isn't a measure of intelligence.

ThePoshUns · 17/10/2025 11:33

I’ve met a few men like Stephen over the years in work and because they speak with a posh accent, people assume they are clever and good at the job. Which isn’t always the case.

Alan Carr has made this show ! I’d be upset if he is out next week. Jonathon is good at deflecting, but Cat and Alan will throw him under the bus I bet if they need to do this ! 😂

I’m dying for this to happen just to see his face Grin

Yes, but Clare Balding is considerably posher than SF — her mother is the sister of the current Earl of Huntingdon, and she comes from a long line of polo players, racehorse trainers etc.

PuppyMonkey · 17/10/2025 12:11

I’m just wondering if Rugby Joe will suddenly remember that time when Wossy totally forgot he had a shield. No true Faithful would ever forget such a thing.

TRIE this morning is epic! Richard and Marina are practically giddy they are loving it so much!

If you get a chance, do listen (this is the Apple Podcast link but it will be available everywhere).

Their ratings chat was really interesting - getting better numbers than Strictly and already the 3rd most watched thing of the year (after Lionesses Euros win and Traitors S3 Final) and we’re not even half way through.

Also loved their chat around the timing of the cabin task. Richard said the production team workshop these tasks to make sure that they go down to the wire time-wise, so the fact that they completed with 5 minutes to go was purely down to Nick being a genius at solving the clues so quickly and Joe M being a man-mountain and spinning that wheel faster than any showrunner thought possible!

I won’t say more so that you can listen for yourselves, but Marina’s theory on Ruth is interesting…

Bugger. I didn’t know there was one this morning. I won’t get time to listen until later.

InAHammock · 17/10/2025 05:42

Yes, but it’s not a straightforward question if you know anything about Shakespeare! There are different sources and at least one Romeo and Juliet character dies in one text and not in another. And in Hamlet, there’s the question of which deaths you include. I’m not a SF fry fan, and I have an Oxford DPhil in Eng Lit, but I’d have done exactly the same and gone to look it up afterwards.

The question was clearly designed for them to either take ages on or get wrong to encourage them to have to give up a shield either there or at another gate when they ran out to time.

IAmThePrettiestManOnMyIsland · 17/10/2025 12:50

Just popping by to say Celia farting has been a highlight 😂

I thought they were hoping everyone would forget about Paris 🤣

Silverbirchleaf · 16/10/2025 21:51

I’m sorry Clare went. I liked her. She was spot on with Alan, and backed up Ruth. She didn’t mean speaking up with her opinions.

I think Dave could be at risk tomorrow, as a silent traitor. That seed has now been planted. Or people could consider The Big Dog theory - Stephen or Jonathan.

She backed up Ruth, who was wrong.

Jonathan Ross never suggested they make an alliance or were an alliance of four, as they were driving in the car. He merely kindly reassured Ruth who was whining about not knowing anyone, alongside Niko, that she and Niko had two allies now - Clare and he would be their friends in the show.

Saying "you have two allies" is not the same as saying, "let's form an alliance."

Puppylucky · 17/10/2025 13:36

I agree @bluevalley - I think Jonathan Ross was unfairly treated by Ruth. On TRIE Marina Hyde speculated that there was something else going on with Ruth as her dislike and contempt for JR was absolutely visceral - Marina speculated it could be age based in the OK Boomer style which I think might be the case.

bluevalley · 17/10/2025 13:57

It's not like it's not on film. They can just roll the tape!

Niko: So there's a one in thirteen chance of being murdered tonight.
Jonathan, turning around from the front seat to chat: If you form alliances with people, that might swing it in your favour.
Clare: Yes. Some people know each other already.
Ruth: I don't know anyone.
Niko: We're in trouble.
Clare: No, you're not.
Jonathan: You've got two older allies here already.
Clare: Exactly.

I mean, if Rossy is guilty of forming this dastardly alliance of four, then so is Clare. I hope Ruth and Clare watch the episodes and see how unhinged they were. I realy enjoyed Ruth until she became obsessed with and so vindictive about JR.

MissMoneyFairy · 17/10/2025 14:23

Even when they showed the car tape Ruth wouldn't back down, I'm glad she's gone.

As are other members of the game. Nick has a Cambridge PhD. Claire also did her degree in English at Cambridge (and like Stephen from a public school background). David and Wossy both went to prestigious universities after schooling at very bog standard comps in poor areas which I’d argue is a bigger achievement.

Its hard to compare academics as performers/thesps/musicians often follow a very different development path attending performer colleges or a more apprenticeship style start to their craft.

Fry is a very experienced performer, he knows exactly how to present himself on a reality show having presented and made reality type programmes himself. His schtick is the lovable old academic buffer and he plays it to perfection.
