As @EineReiseDurchDieZeit is unable to start this week's thread I volunteered to do it, so here we are.

I hope this is OK!

Please do not post videos on this thread to avoid making it slow to load - videos go on the dedicated thread https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/telly_addicts/5400581-strictly-2025-video-thread-come-share-your-favourites?utm_campaign=thread&utm_medium=app_share

He was great, wasn't he? Hamza, Bill Bailey, Rose, Chris...they were engaging, hard working and lovely people who deserved to win. Oh, and not ringers!

Exactly! What the show is about for me. Someone who isn't perfect and polished, puts the hours in, has a go, has a laugh and good attitude, improves, gains confidence and enjoys themselves.

I'd have that every time rather than a faux shocked, hand clapped over mouth "who, little me?!" ringer.

Me too! I'm sure they're lovely people, but I do not enjoy watching Amber or Lewis.

Balvinders dance was a bit boring , but right that Ross went out he was awful.
Loving Lewis and Kathy what a dance this week, but finding the west end star girl a bit blah not sure why she’s maybe just a bit theatre school for my liking.

cordelia16 · 12/10/2025 20:50

Holluschickie · 12/10/2025 20:04

And it was good.
Hope Balvinder gets good music and a good dance next week.
Will be gutted if she goes before Stefan and Chris. But not at all surprised.

it was very good. I even remember the costumes :)

tbf the staccato nature of the song works better for paso. but I hope Alexis can put together a good routine for George.

agree about Balvinder. no way should she have been in the DO.

I dont mind Lewis at all, but am finding Amber very irritating - all those hysterics when she got her marks this week, and how over the top she was about Cynthia.

Ahh! RiP Diane Keaton.
Balvinder is fabulous. Love her dress

Diane Keaton died?! I didn’t realise I’ve been in hospital that’s so sad

It was only announced late yesterday.

Hope you’re feeling better now.

I liked Hamza having never heard of him before.

Same with Rose.

And now George.

Hamza is one of my favourite contestants ever. Just so so so lovely person.

A fever dream…hope you feel better soon

Thank you. I've just rewatched the pro dance and it's even more insane on second viewing. Fever dream sums it up nicely.

I cannot remember any of his dances except the one (couples choice I think) with the most insane lifts. Instead all I remember is Hamza's great attitude and lovely smile ❤️.

Mary Poppins in DO. No-one likes the bird woman in the film.

I absolutely adore the Bird lady in Mary Poppins. Always have. The song which always makes me cry.
She also reminds me of my Nana.
I've fed the Pigeons in London since I was a little girl due in part to this film.

RainbowSnake · 12/10/2025 19:33

Whoever came up with this idea for a dance needs sacking. What were they thinking?!

I think Strictly is due for a change quite frankly.
The choreographer, Jason someone and the Wardrobe designer, Vicky someone really need to go now and give others with new talent and good ideas a shot at it.
It just looks stale, cheap and tired.

So agree.

Who is in charge of pairing the music with the dances?
They need to go.
It can (and has!) absolutely ruin the dance with the wrong song.

100%

DancingontheDancefloor · 12/10/2025 19:58

And maybe a new pro with little following/unknown?

The new pro hasn't charmed me at all I have to say. Seems a bit fake.

Hopefully next year new pro will be benched (or gone) and we'll have Gorka back and Neil partnered up.

It's such a lovely song and I thought it was such a gentle, vulnerable performance. They're a good pairing.

Presumably if Gorka continues to be a judge for the Spanish version then he will continue to be unavailable. I have no idea if he is some sort guest judge for season role or if he is a permanent addition to the Spanish judging panel as I know nothing about the Spanish show but if he has decided that a judge role will offer him greater longevity/better financial reward then it seems unlikely we will him back as a partnered pro.

Choppychop · 12/10/2025 23:03

I really like the new female pro - she’s very talented. And the new guy is a great choreographer.

EsmaCannonball · 13/10/2025 01:51

This is Gorka's second year on Spanish DWTS. IIRC, it was meant to be filmed earlier in the year but the date changed. Not sure if that is a permanent thing or if next year he will be available.

So far I don't mind either of the new pros. It's too early to tell for me. Vito and Lauren seem like absolute bankers and they should never, ever, bench Lauren again.

TrickySparkles · 13/10/2025 05:07

Right person went thankfully. Agree the gushing over Cynthia was a bit much as was her own self-congratulatory manner - you’d think the contestants had never been given any feedback or advice before she came along. Mind you she was probably briefed by production to give her feedback along those lines.

I have it say I loved the group dance!! But then my DC are prime minecraft ages and I’ve seen that movie more times that a sensible person should! The dance followed the script perfectly and the costumes were spot on.

My 12yo Minecrafter thought it was amazing too. I enjoyed the film so got something out of it. At least it was different and not recycling an old theme.

CarlaH · 13/10/2025 08:27

Happy to put my head above the parapet. The group dance went down well in this house even though we had no idea what it was as we are ancient.

I think contestants like Hamza, Bill Bailey and Chris become popular with the public because they are so screamingly obviously what the show is really meant to be about - somebody who genuinely doesn’t have a dance background, working their butt off to become good at dancing. I wish we had more of them.

I understand sticking a couple of ringers in to be “good” in the early rounds but pacemakers in most sports drop off before the end, they don’t pretend to be in the race.

I would like to see a return to just two or three dances in the early weeks to avoid a total non dancer having to manage eg a Samba or Foxtrot in the first couple of weeks. That just magnifies the ringer effect.

I am heartily bored of Shirley dribbling over the men and carping at the older women - or at least older women without the status and popularity to push back.
