As @EineReiseDurchDieZeit is unable to start this week's thread I volunteered to do it, so here we are.

I hope this is OK!

Please do not post videos on this thread to avoid making it slow to load - videos go on the dedicated thread https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/telly_addicts/5400581-strictly-2025-video-thread-come-share-your-favourites?utm_campaign=thread&utm_medium=app_share

I wish they'd confiscate Motsi's no. 10 paddle till at least half way through the series, or preferably later. It's ridiculous dishing them out this early.

Mildorado · 11/10/2025 22:58

What was the point of Cynthia Erivo again?

That’s what I thought. Is it just make up? One of those cut crease thingies (which I can’t do)

or is it just one of those plastic sticky eye lift things that give those with hoods an eyelid?

I don’t know.

Quite good for a movie night - not too many silly dances and costumes, thankfully.

Some of the scoring a bit random though, did Craig really give both Ross and Karen a 4?

I have warmed to Ross, being a fellow Scot myself, but would be ridiculous if he escaped the dance off this week.

Lewis was amazing!

Generally I agree, but there really wasn't much critique to improve that routine.

You know it's going to score highly across all judges when Craig starts with "your little finger..."

Freysimo · 12/10/2025 07:38

@EsmaCannonball Peter Gordeno! That takes me back. He was on most Saturday night entertainment shows in the 60s and 70s, white lacy shirt slit to the navel. Good dancer too. He died in 2008 sadly.

Catching up late.
I didn't see any strangulation?

I saw it, too. At the very end of one of the routines (possibly one of the pasos). Will go back and see which routine.

Right - thanks.
I wasn't really sure where to start looking.

Eta I was also watching on my phone up until Jojo and Alex which isn't great for detail.

I think it would have got 4 10s later in the series.

What was the point of Cynthia Erivo again?

She is a STAR of STAGE and SCREEN 😁 I noticed that they borrowed the caption maker from Masked Singer to introduce her. I think her mentoring was well-received by everyone, she has a real passion for performance, doesn't she.

I doubt it. Shirley's usually pretty generous with her 10s, and if she wasn't getting it out then it's highly unlikely to merit it.

The trouble with dishing out 10s really early is that it leaves them with nowhere to go when dancers improve further. It's really quite tedious when every dance gets a 10.

I found it. It was at the end of Jimmy and Lauren's Rumba (which I had loved up until that point). And I get that he's playing Bond and the song is No Time to Die, but I don't think the choking to death part was necessary.

Zempy · 12/10/2025 08:52

I never vote for the Ringers. George and Ellie got my vote.

Ah! That was just about the time that DH's rugby match was finishing so I was keeping half an eye on that.
Thank you - I'll go and watch and see what I missed.

EsmaCannonball · 12/10/2025 09:57

The Wicked routine, the introduction saying how wonderful and gracious she is, the bowing down, every single couple extolling how blessed they were by her presence, the entirety of Cynthia's feedback being 'I gave you some inspirational advice, you listened to my inspirational advice and you were transformed by my inspirational advice' all gave it a rather 'Stalin's birthday celebrations' feel. In this scenario Alex was the more brilliant but sidelined army general whose less-than-convincing expressions of gratitude signify her impending liquidation.

Sevenfold · 12/10/2025 10:09

i had never heard of her. found myself distracted by her awful nails.

xsquared · 12/10/2025 10:15

Caught up late, so here ate my thoughts.

I usually dread movie week as some contestants appear to draw the short straw with the costume or theme. I predict the dance off will be the battle of the pasos.

Not Lewis' paso obviously, which was outstanding. I don't care that he's a ringer. It's a real treat watching Katya dance to her professional ability while also showing her celeb off, which she did so well here.

Too much screeching and squealing from Amber and Vicky. I also found Amber's salaaming to Cynthia Erivo and comments about wanting ro be like her a bit cringeworthy. Her show opening dance was very good.

Pro group dance was lovely.

Get rid of Couple's Choice. It was clear not George's choice at all to do Soda Pop! I agree with Craig about synchronicity for that style of dance. It had potential to be an amazing dance, and I think with a bit more rehearsal time, it would have looked more polished.

Pleasantly surprised by Jimmy's rumba. Lauren looked like an actual Bond Girl/Woman in her dress.

Karen looked ungainly in the upper body. Her lines needed more finesse and there needed to be more fluidity between moves. I really want to see her do as brilliantly as she did in week 1.

Balvinder had the best dress again. I agree with CE about her needing to finish her lines. I like her, amd I want her to get far in the competition.

Vito really makes Ellie shine. She's not the best dancer, but she has the right attitude and sass to carry the performance.

EsmaCannonball · 12/10/2025 10:37

It's Ellie's self-confidence that make her watchable. It's always really awkward watching someone like Chris who is clearly finding it all a bit excruciating.

You weren't the only one - she was distracted by her own awful nails.
For anyone else who watches "Only Connect" she reminded me strongly of a contestant a couple of years back who had weird, writhing arm movements to act out every Egyptian hieroglyph they requested.

TessTickle0 · 12/10/2025 10:52

My musings from Last Nights Show...Alex and La Voix suited being blondes,Jowita and vicky less so.
Hated all the (fake?) simpering over Cynthia Erivo- her nose ring and stupidly long nails annoyed me also.
Ross was terrible.
chris not much better but i like nadyia and wish she would stay in the competition longer than she typically does.
No dance really wowed me, I smiled and enjoyed Ellie and
vitos dance.
Don't try and copy Axl Rose
Tbh I felt a bit bored mostly.

It didn't occur to me to see it that way.

All of this!

You’d think that she’d trained the contestants in every step, the way she was going on about her advice.

She’s not someone I warmed to, at all.

I do remember her being a stand-in judge a few years ago, and giving AJ brilliant comments then rubbish score.
