Started this last night. It's beautifully filmed in parts but wow it takes you aback at certain bits. I didn't realise that the movie Psycho was based on this guy. It's not for the faint hearted.

texas sawchain movies were about him too

I’m not sure what to make of this. I don’t think I’m enjoying it. It’s a bit too weird, even for me.

It’s the weirdness that won’t allow me to switch it off.

Just when I things cant get any weirder the next episode proves me wrong.

@LondonLady1980
Yes, I know what you mean!

Kermit!! 😂😂😂 glad I have finished the series because you are bang on and that would have totally distracted me 😂

It is very distracting when every time he appears on screen DH starts whistling “It’s time to play the music….” 😆

Mental state of s fine. But we don't need to see the gay chap having counselling sessions and attempting to touch a woman's breasts. We don't need to see Hitchcock watching movies with his wife and hearing his woes and bedtime chats with her. It was far too involved and detracted from the gein story by making another mini story. At one point I had to check I hadn't accidentally changed the channel. It wasn't well intertwined.

Totally agree. Those stories added nothing and only made it confusing. That's the only negative IMHO.

JMSA · 17/10/2025 14:14

This is gratuitous as fuck. I really don’t need to see him fucking a dead body. Leave something to the imagination, we don’t need it spelled out.
Usually I don’t want a Netflix series to end. I’m counting down with this one.

FastFood · 17/10/2025 15:41

As always, Ryan Murphy starts well but doesn't know how to end a series.
The last two episodes are totally useless.

I liked the overall commentary about us being the monsters, the escalation and habituation in evil, the fascination, I don't mind graphic, I love bizarre, but I was just bored, and found the reference to Mindhunter totally useless.

LondonLady1980 · 17/10/2025 22:38

I have just finished the final episode.
All I have to say is that he makes a very nice looking older man!

ozarina · 18/10/2025 02:20

I know 😬

So you just want a description of what he did with no mention of his mental state?

Huh? No?
You don’t need to confront every post that doesn’t agree with your personal opinion about a Tv show which is entirely subjective. When you start threads you invite conversation about the topic and people will share their thoughts.

I agree but I see what Ryan did with this although it wasn’t an enjoyable episode. He was leading up to it with the commentary about how we’re (the American public= the wider public) the real sickos who will sit and watch all this gore and degenerate stuff and how we demand it. Then he spent an entire episode pretty much, of Gein up close defiling a cadaver. Testing how many of us would lap it up and/or think to ourselves ‘what am I actually doing consuming this?!’ I actually questioned many, many of the scenes throughout actually. Could have done without so many of them. But did I watch? Yes. Although I fast forwarded some

Your question to me didn’t make any sense in the context of what I’d written, so I just replied, ‘no’.

I don’t think some viewers get that it’s not just another Netflix true crime documentary, theres plenty of those around.

Who cares if it’s not following the facts religiously, it’s a story based around real events with some artistic license around what inspired them and was inspired by them in turn.

I’m a Ryan Murphy apologist, yes his work can be a bit salacious and exploitative but it’s entertaining and creative and the talent of everyone involved is apparent. I like how he shows the humanity in people who do horrendous things without taking away from the impact of what they did.

Americano75 · 19/10/2025 14:10

I got up to halfway through episode 6 and gave up. It just felt excessively nasty and soulless.

The only thing that kept me watching was the performances, especially CH and Lesley Manville.

Love Lesley Manville!
Did you see her in Harlots? Amazing.

God, I love Harlots. Absolutely brilliant. LM is starring in a new production of Les Liaisons Dangereuses with Aiden Turner and I jealous of anyone who gets to go and see it.

everyoldsock · 19/10/2025 22:14

Lesley Manville is brilliant in anything (especially in Another Year - has anyone seen that?) and predictably great in this. @Americano75 at some point next year you'll be able to see that show at home via National Theatre at Home.

Oh my God, I was wondering if that would be the case. Brilliant.

everyoldsock · 20/10/2025 12:30

I've finished now and I didn't like the sensationalist tone and style. I don't mind some artistic licence, but most of the detours from Gein's story were distracting and mostly pointless. I have no idea why Ryan Murphy or whoever it was decided to include the necrophile scenes since they added nothing to that episode and they didn't happen anyway. I guess it was all about the shock value, which is why this season falls short. However, I loved CH's performance and I hope this show marks a career renaissance for him.

JMSA · 20/10/2025 13:43

Also, did Gein even help to capture Ted Bundy, or was that pure horseshit too?
