KEEP DANCING

JudybMurray was pretty dreadful and she hung around for ages. She was a lovely lovely woman but Anton may as well have been dancing with a plank of wood.

Comparatively the number of weeks Chris was in is probably lower than some of the other shockers but his final position must be the highest due to the short run/small field.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 05/10/2025 22:15

One thing I do miss a bit from years ago is when people felt they'd got a raw deal they'd make it known. Pretty sure it was Carol Vorderman who had a right ding dong with Arlene. Now they all just grin rictusly because they don't want to risk a social media backlash.

ilovesooty · 05/10/2025 22:15

I've been out all evening and just caught up
All I'll say is thank goodness for that.

Colin Jackson was set up by that idiotic show dance with the dummies

Yes and no. Firstly, even though voting figures weren't released iirc, Darren was nonetheless well ahead in the odds, even before the show dance. So it wasn't the thing that stopped Colin winning. He was never going to win.
Yes, because as one of them said, it was "end of the pier" stuff.
No, because it did what Erin wanted - namely, it showed Colin could lead entirely by himself. He wasn't being surreptitiously led by her (which happens more than you'd think, the female pros know how to steer without making it look obvious).
Colin did eventually win a Xmas one though and did DOI and is now happily out the closet (he wasn't back then) but I do still feel for Erin. She, like Nat, was a pro I thought might get the Glitterball one day. After Colin, Austin was probably her best bet (No, Julian Clary does not count).

I have just found out Tess in Casualty is Colin Jackson's sister! I loved watching him dance - he was so light on his feet. And Erin let him down in that dance.

@StrictlySequinsandStiIettos yeah both Natalie and Erin deserved a win. Natalie should’ve won with Ricky

Anton may as well have been dancing with a plank of wood.

I'd give Jerry Hall that accolade too.

Nancy Dell’Olio (Sven Goran Eriksson’s former girlfriend)
Susannah Constantine

other planks of wood that Anton danced with

Blimey I'd forgotten all about Nancy. That was a bit of BBC barrel scraping.

I think the year he had Susannah (his last as a dancer IIRC) he did seem to have given up and was openly delighted to be voted off.

CaveMum · 05/10/2025 23:08

Statistically speaking Anton had more than his share of duffers. Granted he made it clear he was not a fan himself of Latin but when he had a decent partner he could definitely get them a long way.

I suspect he got lumbered in the “squire the older lady about the floor” role as he was a decent chap. My secondhand knowledge of him is that he’s a very patient teacher, particularly with kids (as was Len).

Anne Widdecombe was more of a sack of potatoes than a plank.

Thmssngvwlsrnd · 06/10/2025 07:57

I love Amy and I'm sorry she's had to go through so much, but I did cringe a bit at her speech at the end. Especially as Tom's was so short and just like "thanks love". I hope Amy gets a decent partner next time.
I loved Ellie's dance. It was pitched just right for her and Vito seems like a lovely man.

I believe Ann Widdicombe requested Anton. Others may have done the same.

Still not over, never over, Anton’s red Samba trousers when he danced with Patsy Palmer

I'm pleased Tom has gone.

I'm liking Ellie, Karen, Alex, George, Jimmy but whilst talented I didn't feel the love for Lewis this week - perhaps it's because he is very good from day or ?

I do think Jimmy and Lauren are developing a good partnership and Karen is so down to earth and willing to learn. Vito well Vito is just supreme - I thought the waltz he choreographed for Ellie was just right

@C8H10N4O2Do you mean Kenny and Gabby Logan?

Yes of course, rugby not football! Sorry confusing my balls 😀

Piggywaspushed · 05/10/2025 21:03

I mean, I'd be all for Dalglish on Strictly . The man's a legend. But he's not done it.

Indeed, my balls (and Kennys) were confused. I wonder if he has ever been asked.

C8H10N4O2 · 06/10/2025 09:24

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 05/10/2025 21:59

Phew, I definitely didn't do that. His charleston is his only dance I remember. Which possibly speaks volumes.

I disliked Tom Chambers intently because of the smugness that radiated off him. I think that's the only final I've never watched in protest because #AustinWasRobbed.

Tom Chambers must be up there in the smuggest ringer ever to win contest. I think at that time many people didn’t realise he was a ringer - my DM certainly didn’t - he was that nice chap on Casualty to her.

Stockholm Syndrome

I don't understand why people are saying poor Amy for being paired with Tom. I read a while ago that they do a kind of speed dating with the contestants and pros, so obviously Tom and Amy got on well enough to get paired up.

She obviously knows the non media Tom and likes him.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 06/10/2025 09:39

She overcooked it with the "friends for life" bollocks they all spout. Yes some partnerships do form long lasting friendships (on that note I can highly recommend Chris and Dianne's podcast) but they are the exception and I really can't see Amy & Tom being one of them.

Tom Chambers was the ringiest of ringers! No amateur could turn out a tap routine like his show dance.

They are constantly on camera now and with chaperones, even during rehearsals and the “personal” trips to each other’s families and lunches. Any celeb as media savvy of Tom will know that and be behaving accordingly unless they are stupid.

As other pps say - for all the talk about "friends for life”, very few become enduring which is what we should expect for workplace acquaintanceships.

Its all moot, he was easily the worst dancer in the show and it was right he should go out first.

I tried to tell my DM and she was convinced that the celebs were not “allowed” to have serious dance experience to go on the show. I think that was the spin the show used to put out. I was very annoyed when he won. (I never warmed to his partner Camilla either).

twilightcafe · 06/10/2025 10:00

All that nonsense along the lines of 'watching Fred Astaire in his bedroom and deciding to 'have a go' at tap'.

Utter cobblers!

Me neither but I could never say anything because she seemed to be viewed as some protected Strictly sweetheart after Brendan.

Tom had this whole faux humble "who, me?!" thing going on that everyone seemed to bloody fall for and yet because Austin was more open about wanting to do well (competitive sportsman and all that) he was deemed arrogant and undeserving. I'd have thought that over a decade afterwards I'd be over it, but clearly not 😂

PollyDarton1 · 06/10/2025 10:15

So glad Temu Tommy has gone.

I am also an OG, and usually don’t go for ringers, but nothing can compare to Danny Mac 🥰 That was the only time I’ve wanted a ringer to win.
