Starting this early because I have things to do. Please come here when the other thread fills up!

I know, it felt a little bit of a let down. I was always going to cheer for her (big football fan) but Karen doesn't seem to be trying to hide it and she put on one heck of a performance.

Carlos is a little over the top for me when it comes to his VT stuff, but looking back, he really seems to encourage and support his celebrities and I think that he's great at getting a good show from them. I loved his tangos with Mollie. I'm not a good judge of dancing, but I adored the performances.

For me it's the trying to hide previous experience, minimising it and in some cases lying about it that really bugs me about ringers. I have way more respect for someone who openly says 'I have X amount of experience' and gives their best possible performance than the 'oh no I don't have an advantage, I haven't had dance training since school and anyway I never did ballroom' (by which they mean theatre school and they only left 4 years ago and have done 6 West end shows since) and deliberately underplay their ability in the first few dances.

Yes! And I guess that the years of football afterwards may have impacted the muscle memory.

I did wonder when I first watched Karen and Carlos whether she had done a lot of yoga or Pilates as part of her football conditioning as she seemed very comfortable with her body.

Her reaction at the end seemed genuine to me, and I guess that she didn't rate her dance experience. I'm now wondering how she'll do at ballroom as that seems a completely different way of moving and holding yourself compared to the jive and the hip-hop and disco that Karen says that she was used to.

NoCommentingFromNowOn · 29/09/2025 23:31

I think Karen the footballers main issue will be her shoulders, I felt like I wanted to gently pull them back a bit from behind!

Normally I stay up on a Saturday night to get the results, but I might have a go at waiting until the Sunday show this year. What do you all do?

La Voix is a man.

No, Chris is a man. La Voix is his female drag act.

Those that have done other dance styles probably do underestimate their advantage. They are trying to learn a new dance style and it probably feels weird and uncomfortable and like they are having to fight years of 'stand like this, move like that' to use their bodies in a new way. They won't feel like they 'get it' in the way they understand the style they have trained in.

But they forget that those that have never danced aren't only learning to use their bodies in a new way but also all the other stuff like remembering steps, counting beats and connection with your partner and taking on the character of the dance. For some they are also having to perform for the first time, for others it's the first time they have had to think about the structure of music or the first time they have physically exerted themselves for hours at a time for days on end.

TLDR: it probably feels really difficult to those that have danced other styles but it will feel much more difficult to those that haven't.

Canadanny · 30/09/2025 00:30

The reality is there number of celebs that have zero dance training is fairly low so it will always be about finding a line that feels right. If they only wanted zero then it would be a small pool of people indeed and would be mostly politician, news reader types

90% of actors and singers (and showbiz focused types!) will have been through theater style schools where dance is also learnt to a varying levels. Lots of them will have spent time on the stage etc or grabbing jobs where they can with a bit of dance. Lots of reality stars too

Most people end up with some sort of advantage other the others and a disadvantage in another way

Actors are used to the characterisation and tend to be less self conscious

Musicians are able to keep a beat

Sports people often come in with co ordination and stamina.

Karen might come in with a dance history, but was also part of a team sport where shes less used to individual focus. Amber's been literally plucked from the west end where she's been doing a charltonesque dance, but I'm sure I could dig into most contestants to find a link

Ringers (and people with more experience) carry the first few weeks and it would be dull without them.

I also think that sometimes they start strong but might have taken years to get to that point, often getting eclipsed by the people who are picking it up very quickly and able to progress quicker

No, Chris is a man. La Voix is his female drag act.

Well, as Chris is a man, he should be referred to as a man.
He certainly isn't a woman, is he?

When Layton danced, and he sometimes dressed as a woman when doing so, I am quite sure that nobody referred to him as "she" or "her".

ButterPiesAreGreat · 30/09/2025 01:00

I think it was such a late replacement that they had to go with someone with some dance experience. Amber said on It Takes Two that she only got the call Thursday night. So they probably spent two days trying to ring round. I think they have people in reserve but for it to take two days, they either said no or they didn’t think they would be a good fit with Nikita (or Neil). Someone who had never danced before with that little rehearsal time would have been the car crash of all car crashes.

No but he didn't have a persona pr alter ego. It's like Paul o'Grady and Lily Savage.

Canadanny · 30/09/2025 08:14

These threads are going to get abandoned if it turns into posters trying to correct others or fight about pro nouns

Can we not just agree to let people use whatever pronouns they chose? If you want to use he, great, use she? Great but a series long debate to insist on using he everytime people discuss la voix is going to get old quick.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 30/09/2025 08:45

I think everything has been covered from every angle now about La Voix and pronouns. A lot of people would like to draw a line under it and have the thread move on instead of going round in circles…

Thanks

And Lily as she, what’s your point? We’re all quite bored now, we’re here to discuss dancing.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 30/09/2025 10:32

Yes. So let's hope he's voted out soon.
🤣

Umbilicat · 30/09/2025 10:40

@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne You're not going to change anyone's mind with your stuck record, in fact you'll make people go the other way. I for one, am mor inclined to vote for La Voix now. Go and moan about this on the feminism and gender board. In the meantime, it's such a shame you can't mute individuals on threads.

SynysterGates · 30/09/2025 11:06

i really dislike it when a fun thread gets hijacked.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 30/09/2025 11:17

I suggest, going forward, that people simply don’t engage with posts they don’t like the sentiment of, or discourse they don’t wish to have. We’re all grown ups.

Any predictions for Saturday? Any significant improvers, Tony Adams style? TBH I can’t see Ross getting much better but Thomas or Chris might, with the right dance and good teaching.

I think Thomas might go, even if he does improve. There was a lot of talk about him proving popular with the general public before the season started, but I can’t see it somehow.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 30/09/2025 12:15

I think the first 3 out will be Ross, Thomas and Chris, to be perfectly honest. I look forward to Alex getting better marks.

Coffeeishot · 30/09/2025 12:16

I think Thomas may go, thats maybe because im not keen to be fair, but the cockney geezer act doesn't come over genuine.

NoCommentingFromNowOn · 30/09/2025 12:19

I just realised It Takes Two is back on, BBC2 6.30, every weekday I think.

People who watch it - is a lot of it used to fill Saturdays programme? Or it’s different stuff and therefore worth watching?

It’s quite different. All the couples will appear once every week for an extended debrief and look forward to next week. They have choreography corner when they look at the dances and discuss technique. They have other features like looking at the costumes, some footage from rehearsals and a Friday panel, then more as the number of couples dwindles like a pro challenge, looking at international versions of the programme, or trying different forms of dance. The exiting couple always appear on the Monday after.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 30/09/2025 12:27

@NoCommentingFromNowOnI haven’t really watched it since it went Fleur/Jeanette. I might watch select episodes this year. It’s all filler really. Training footage and interviews

I agree. When he said he started out as a trader, I thought he meant the stock exchange floor, not a market stall!
