I’m sorry if there’s already a thread. I couldn’t see one.
just started this today. Am hooked already.
perfect cold night in thriller.
Without giving too much away, Toni Collete is fucking terrifying in this (to me).

slightly off topic: does she ever put a foot wrong? Since the days of Muriel (‘Mariel’) , she seems to have been unfailingly brilliant.
not sure I’ve seen everything she’s done so open to recommendations.

there was a thread recently about ubiquitous faces and it can be so urgh when you see the same names over and over, particularly British ex soap stars turned household names in every drama series going, or typecast movie stars who play the same character in every production but TC does seem to have a genuine and broad spectrum talent.

That may be the best way to watch it tbh...

It becomes like a fever dream by the end!

PS hope you recover soon.

@Twoshoesnewshoes

"can we discuss the ending complete with spoilers?
I have questions!"

I am happy to. Ha e see it all.

I suggest Spoiler Alert before any big spoilers!!

Piknik

Re "I've just finished - I kind of like the two alternate endings and the way that echo'd some of the 'leap' scenes."

How do?

"And the head of the girls' school, miles away."

Not sure what that means?

"And what was the thing he begged Lilah not to destroy?" Who begged Lilah not to destroy something?

Twoshoesnewshoes

"And is the idea that Laura killed 18 other children?? If so why was she welcomed back to the community?"

Where did that idea come from?

It's fascinating what other people pick up on.

Piggywaspushed · 06/10/2025 19:19

The head of Lilah's school , all the way across the border in Canada, was an ex student of Tall Pines.

Lilah smashed his office up. He begged her not to smash something and she did. Evelyn had slightly odd things on her desk too.

So excited to watch this - cold night TV is what I am craving right now! Going to start at the weekend I think

Twoshoesnewshoes · 06/10/2025 19:58

@Italiangreyhound the head is the guy who was on Suits. At their normal high school in the first episode.
@Piggywaspushed not Piggy from Bunty magazine??

Twoshoesnewshoes · 06/10/2025 20:00

SPOILER ALERT
Im
going to rewatch it and find the bit that I dreamt where someone said Laura killed, like, everyone

Perfectlystill · 06/10/2025 20:06

I've just given up watching this after two episodes. Mae Martin is TERRIBLE. Some of the script is truly awful.

For example when she burnt herself on the hot pan and the food she was cooking went all over the floor she immediately called her dog to eat it. I have dogs. If I spill hot food my immediate reaction is to gather it up so the dogs don't scoff it and burn their tongues.

There are loads of little moments in the series when you think oh come ON, that would never happen!

And Mae Martin's acting is the icing on the shitty cake.

LaurieFairyCake · 06/10/2025 21:45

It was dreadful, really hope they don’t make more

It's called a garden, although it looks like a picture frame with sand in it.He says "Leila, if you break that garden, there is no coming back."

The episode is called 'Burrow' and I wonder if that is significant.

I am very sad but I like finding things out on the internet!

Spoiler alert....

They will make more!

Twoshoesnewshoes · 08/10/2025 09:35

Okay, I rewatched the last episode.
SPOILER ALERT
when Evelyn has been jabbed and is in the water, she tells Alex that Laura milled her own parents, and says Laura went back to crush his skull with a rock- interesting as that’s what Alex then does to Dwayne.
Evelyn says ‘she killed those people’ which I took to mean that Laura killed other people too, but on rewatching I guess she means her parents?

Twoshoesnewshoes · 08/10/2025 09:38

Also - there’s lots of little references to testosterone- Alex trying to grow facial hair, her watch bleeping to remind her to have her jab.
wondering if there will be a link made in the next season to this and Alex’s increased aggression and impulsiveness? I mean it would be a very bold move and would seem to go against the writers beliefs, but I wonder if they have had a personal experience of this?
orherwise I’m anticipating a big trauma reveal to explain why Alex can be such a violent nutter at times.

theclive · 08/10/2025 11:19

I tried but I can get past the non binary whatever thing. Also they are so wooden I just can’t.

Yes, I noticed that, the rock thing.

Did anyone else pick up on the toads?

Chrysanthemum5 · 09/10/2025 21:55

Ive been avoiding this thread until I finished watching. Overall I enjoyed it but I have to admit to being a bit lost at the end.

I alternated between thinking MM's character was great because her naivety allowed the plot to be explored; and then thinking her acting was so awful it make it almost unwatchable. An earlier poster said MM's acting made it seem like a comedy and that's exactly how I feel.

I found it fascinating that the story is based on the schools in America for 'difficult' teens.

Dubuem · 10/10/2025 23:18

On ep 4 now. Glad I'm not the only one that thinks Mae is totally miscast. I thought it was mother and son in the first episode. Good series though.

I think Alex was lying when they said the watch bleeping was a reminder to have a jab. Was it not really a reminder to check the radio to see if Abbie was going to be online?

Twoshoesnewshoes · 12/10/2025 12:33

Ohhhhhh yes!

lemonraspberry · 12/10/2025 22:32

I started watching it - got to episode 5. Toni Collette was fabulous- amazing actress which has shown how bad Mae Martin is. It was too jarring to really get invested it.

the plot had so many holes, the writing so weak I do wonder how they got Toni Collette on board with this. It was a promising start which just became a poor man’s school drama series.

Namechangeforthis88 · 13/10/2025 08:17

The thing on the desk that she smashed i took to be a mini zen garden. They were a thing. Probably signalling an anxiety driven controlling nature, and her destroying his "zen".

Italiangreyhound · 13/10/2025 13:45

I'm so surprised that people don't:t like Martin's acting. I think they are great.
