I’m sorry if there’s already a thread. I couldn’t see one.
just started this today. Am hooked already.
perfect cold night in thriller.
Without giving too much away, Toni Collete is fucking terrifying in this (to me).

slightly off topic: does she ever put a foot wrong? Since the days of Muriel (‘Mariel’) , she seems to have been unfailingly brilliant.
not sure I’ve seen everything she’s done so open to recommendations.

there was a thread recently about ubiquitous faces and it can be so urgh when you see the same names over and over, particularly British ex soap stars turned household names in every drama series going, or typecast movie stars who play the same character in every production but TC does seem to have a genuine and broad spectrum talent.

I watched it all. I quite enjoyed it - Toni Collette and the kids were good. I liked Oatmeal Beth although she reminded me of the girl in Derry Girls.

I wondered why everyone forgot about Toast.

Lots of plot holes of course and it was a bit ludicrous but still a reasonably enjoyable way to spend a few hours.

Ah yeah oatmeal Beth is a great character!

HelenHywater plot holes?

HelenHywater plot holes?

Well more, just the ridiculousness of it.

Italiangreyhound · 03/10/2025 19:10

HelenHywater well, it does seem ridiculous yes but... It is based on a real life situation. There were cults in the U.S. in the 70s like the one mentioned and there were places for troubled teens where questionable activities/processes went on.

Tontostitis · 03/10/2025 19:35

What plot holes?

Piknik · 03/10/2025 23:06

@treesandsun Snowfall? That's where I recognised him from.

I've just finished - I kind of like the two alternate endings and the way that echo'd some of the 'leap' scenes.

Toni was excellent as ever and I thought the actress who played Leila was really watchable - she reminded me of a young Drew Barrymore.

Mae was horrendous, completely unbelievable as a character and as half of that couple, and I hated the sex scene.

I agree they seem to have left the door open for S2. Lots of unanswered questions. I'll definitely go in if they do as long as Laura keeps her fingers poo free

Italiangreyhound · 04/10/2025 00:09

There is definitely a season 2.

mysoulmio · 04/10/2025 00:14

why do we assume she was sticking her fingers there? I thought she was reaching underneath to the front? seems a bit unlikely to go in for the bum from the get go (but what do I know?). Whatever it was i wasn't sure what it was trying to add to the story and seemed unlikely that she would be so sexually submissive when she spent the whole time in vests trying to be all hard and manly?

Yeah, I don't know why people are assuming Laura was doing anything with Alex's bum! Alex still has a clitoris whatever pronouns the character might like people to use. I think the whole 'trans man is submissive' thing was supposed to be a 'haha gotcha look how I subverted your expectations you small minded provincial people who aren't as cool and modern and subversive as trans people are' message...

Piknik · 04/10/2025 10:20

To be fair, my reference to Poo Fingers was not thought through that hard. I think because Mae very deliberately rolled onto her front, I assumed rear access was priority. 🤷‍♀️

Crinkle77 · 05/10/2025 00:26

I haven't figured out how some people get 'released' (such as the head in the girls' hometown.)

Yes and why was Laura allowed to leave in the first place

Abominableday · 05/10/2025 00:36

I thought it said it was a limited series? Shouldn't that mean one and done

Italiangreyhound · 05/10/2025 01:32

They kind of pass the test by the leap. Then they are effectively part of the group, even if they leave, and lots of them stay.

RCOR · 05/10/2025 08:48

No one else going to mention the weird nipples🤭

Yes, but I thought they were meant to live in the community?

Twoshoesnewshoes · 05/10/2025 17:30

Just watched the sex scene
didn’t think it was particularly bad? The only off bit is that Mae’s tattoos are very 2020
i thought that it mirrored the toad in the waste disposal, that Laura can be cold and dominant.

Woompund · 05/10/2025 17:55

Well I just watched the end - bit shite really

Italiangreyhound · 05/10/2025 21:43

I thought the ending was very good.

What's with Evelyn's creepy three wheeled bike?

"Yes, but I thought they were meant to live in the community?"

The kids go into the community like Stacey. Like the boy who agent Dempsey thinks is the other officer's son.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 06/10/2025 12:23

can we discuss the ending complete with spoilers?
I have questions!

Yes but that doesn't explain why Laura was allowed to leave the community.

Piggywaspushed · 06/10/2025 15:35

And the head of the girls' school, miles away. And what was the thing he begged Lilah not to destroy?

Twoshoesnewshoes · 06/10/2025 16:29

And is the idea that Laura killed 18 other children?? If so why was she welcomed back to the community?

Piggywaspushed · 06/10/2025 16:40

Wait? Did she? Oh, I wasn't paying attention...!

Twoshoesnewshoes · 06/10/2025 16:45

I think so - I have Covid though so watched it all in a mild fever
