Joel ,was excellent today ,what a talented you g man that actor was ..
Will was very underused him and Janet are bearly in it .
I wonder why lilly wasnt involved,I suppose she's had plenty of screen time with her mum leaving.
Excellent episode today ,very impressive..much much better than the drugs storyline, that I'm really fed up with .
In fact todays episode and the episodes with Ben in are raising the bar ,as I was getting a bit fed up with all the Zoe stuff and drugs storyline

the80sweregreat · 09/10/2025 13:45

The big scenes of everyone talking about the school incident reminded me of a mumsnet discussion !
( How are you ? With Alan Partridge also mentioned mumsnet too)

Anyonecanfallinlove · 09/10/2025 14:01

I'm assuming Lily wasn't shown as she wasn't a witness to the school incident, she was off school due to Charlie being poorly

Ben will either come back and go back to sleeping with half of London , or wreck revenge on Callum or Johnny. He has murdered before ( poor Heather!)
Despite all the ‘ he deserves happiness’ talk.

I did laugh when Ben was saying why he was allowed go to the Vic and said ‘I mean I didn’t murder anyone, not this time anyway’

CorporaINobbyNobbs · 09/10/2025 14:26

found that episode a bit distressing. Poor Vicky. Also agree with PP that not all of us old folks are ‘never did me any harm’ types - I was surprised at Priya though I’d have thought she’d be more with it!

But he didn’t murder Heather. I don’t think he’s capable of more than physical assault.

Yes, Ben’s mention of murder was amusing, he had some good lines.
It did make me laugh when Kathy said ‘ once you’ve moved to your new prison’ as if he were moving house or doing something pleasant ! His done a long stretch for credit card fraud.

the80sweregreat · 09/10/2025 14:32

No, Heather was manslaughter wasn’t it ? Although I still think of it was murder because I loved Hev and hated her being written out because of him like that !

Southeastdweller · 09/10/2025 14:40

Yes, manslaughter. The official reason they got rid of her was because Brian Kirkwood wanted to explore Shirley’s grief, which sounds like a load of baloney.

Shellingbynight · 09/10/2025 14:50

Well he killed Heather so I suppose credit card fraud is small potatoes to him.

I wanted to gouge my own eyes out watching this episode, I found it so patronising and clunky, as you say 80s I felt they were delivering a lecture. EE is not up to the subject.

Ross is useless and Vicki is a huge annoyance. And I don't believe even Vicki is dim enough to leave herself alone with Joel and then keep goading him. I didn't even find it tense because she was yelling at him for so long. This could have been such a good storyline but for me it's gone pearshaped.

Southeastdweller · 09/10/2025 14:56

I think she was yelling out of frustration. But I agree it was implausible she would keep goading him - I guess it was a lazy and convenient way in for him to assault her.

Ross is terrible, just a joke of a father, and - sadly - very realistic.

OP posts:
the80sweregreat · 09/10/2025 15:01

Why did Ross leave him with her? I’d have been right behind him.

Shellingbynight · 09/10/2025 15:04

Ross is a waste of space.

I think it would have been more effective if the scenes with Joel and Vicki were less protracted. He detests her and has a very short fuse and I was surprised he didn't go for her much quicker.

Why did Ross leave him with her? I’d have been right behind him.

Vicky told him to leave so he could calm down,

He could just have left the room, he didn't have to stomp off into the wide blue yonder. It felt like a clunky plot device to leave her alone with Joel.

JemimaTab · 09/10/2025 16:03

I did find it a bit clunky too - but I think the main issue is that it’s difficult to do the topic justice when you are trying to cram it into half an hour. It was a bit superficial as a result.
The actor playing Joel is very good though. Joel is absolutely terrifying.

the80sweregreat · 09/10/2025 16:07

I hope they throw the book at Joel! Ben is away for credit card fraud in the US , but I bet Joel gets away with this because his dad won’t believe he did it or he’ll argue that she hit him first or some such :(
Not sure how it’ll pan out though

the80sweregreat · 09/10/2025 16:09

There hasn’t been a big build up to today really ; it’s been patchy for months and the whole debate around it felt a bit off / weird. Tommy was doing so well for ages now he is being the same too. He previously hit Kat didn’t he ? It’s all so grim

murasaki · 09/10/2025 16:16

My prediction is that Joel will claim he went out and she must have slipped and fallen. And then the video will come out. Probably at Christmas.

Southeastdweller · 09/10/2025 16:17

I can understand that people would have been talking about it, but not in one episode and along with the stuff going on with Joel, Ross and Vicky in Sharon's house. It felt rushed and a bit clunky, but the themes made me think a little. I also liked that Kat insisted to Alife (a bit useless today) that they have to keep on talking to Tommy. Too many parents can't be bothered to talk to their kids about difficult topics, so I did find that refreshing.

He won't be able to resist posting a 'here's what happens to uppity low value females when they disrespect alpha males' video.

Great performance by the actor though, chilling. Both a psycho and a little boy in one scene.

But Vicky will tell everyone what happened...maybe.

OP posts:
Shellingbynight · 09/10/2025 16:26

They do have a problem with rushing storylines, like with Stacey's exit.

If Vicki doesn't tell everyone what happened I will completely lose patience as they will just be stringing it out for the drama.

Most of it felt like a public service announcement but I thought Julie was good, her lines didn't feel like a sermon. (Who is looking after Nigel though!)

cramptramp · 09/10/2025 18:26

I thought today’s episode was really good. I didn’t feel like I was being preached to. Great acting from Joel as usual. Loved the bit where Julie said that teachers are there to teach, parents should be doing the parenting stuff. I have no patience with parents who don’t check what their children are doing online.

HighburyHope · 09/10/2025 18:49

I thought the video played at the school assembly was going to turn out to be of Joel and Avani.
