The northern businesses ( I thought ) was a front for them to have sneaky time away from Nish but if they were actual businesses, I’m sure that she could be called away to run them for a while ( whilst doing strictly!)
They also used to run the GP surgery , but that seems to have evaporated along with the pest control business which jumpers set alight and anything else they once had on the go. We see Vinny on a PC now occasionally, but what he does I can’t recall.
Does Alfie not work in the mini mart anymore ? He was a manager there for 5 mins once.
in fact, hardly any of them work and Sharon has disappeared again too! The gym runs itself.

At the moment a lot of the cast seem to get a week's worth of episodes then we don't see them for ages (unless they're Zoe), so they could start off the adoption storyline and leave it hanging. I suppose now Nish has gone they need more 'drama' for Suki and Eve so they have to manufacture unlikely scenarios.

I imagine what is screened now was filmed in the summer so they were off on their hols! In shifts, it would seem.

the80sweregreat · 08/10/2025 15:22

Sharon was looking into the PI woman , but that’s gone off the boil. I suppose they are saving up a ‘ I’m your muvver’ story for Christmas.
The fact that you hardly see them running any of their businesses ( like the hair salon for example) irrationally annoys me ! The only one who seems consistent is Kathy and the cafe most of the time.

Shellingbynight · 08/10/2025 15:27

Zoe said last night that Sharon had book a meeting with a PI 'in a couple of weeks'. I had no idea PIs had a waiting list!

the80sweregreat · 08/10/2025 15:31

Kathy and the cafe, at least you see her working in it.
Hair salon seems to have disappeared
Albert , Elaine and new girl run it with Cindy occasionally looking on.
Kats kabs and the limo business.. ???
We have seen Ian in the chippy recently. The pie shop seems to have closed down.
lauren occasionally in the car lot.
mini mart, not been seen in a while.
Vic, lots of drama but K and A too busy with Zo.
The drug dealing has been lucrative and we’ve seen a lot of the arches lately though. Although they never seem to actually finish working on the cars.

the80sweregreat · 08/10/2025 15:32

At least Zoe has stopped going on about ‘ her boy’ .
For now.

Autumnpug7 · 08/10/2025 15:46

I quite liked the idea of Zoe coming back .
But it's overkill now ,glad of a break from her

Shellingbynight · 08/10/2025 21:07

That camera was ridiculous! Such an obvious plot device so that it could be found and the Consequences could begin. (And Nicola has conveniently disappeared without bothering to tell her own kids?)

At least they have injected some realism into the adoption storyline, with Eve acknowledging it may never happen. It either won't happen, or will happen on EastEnders Time and they will have the child by Christmas.

And what are the writers inhaling? Phil is going away for 'a few weeks' and leaving Nigel with just Julie for company, and she is out working 8 hours a day. It is also annoying that as soon as Tish arrives, Steve goes. They need more scenes together.

One plus point - no Zoe.

the80sweregreat · 08/10/2025 21:54

I’m worried about Nigel too! The writers are on glue with this one’

the80sweregreat · 08/10/2025 21:55

Yes. Maybe Suki will go down the ‘ adopt from China ‘ route.

SnowFrogJelly · 09/10/2025 01:08

So Max has disappeared again but will he return..

So Max has disappeared again but will he return..

I don't know, but I'd rather he didn't tbh!

Shellingbynight · 09/10/2025 08:32

I'd rather Max didn't return too, but he's back later this year.

I hope Ben doesn't return next year, but I think he's going to as well. The visit in prison seemed to wrap things up to a certain extent.

Shellingbynight · 09/10/2025 08:35

By the way 80s I noticed you asked what Suki and Eve were talking about in the bar. It didn't really make sense but I realised they must be talking about Eve's altercation with Jonno, which happened outside the bar. It seemed crowbarred into the conversation for no apparent reason.

the80sweregreat · 09/10/2025 08:49

Ahh, yes, that makes sense it would be about Callum’s dad. I just didn’t understand who they were on about !

GenerateNewUsername · 09/10/2025 09:36

Sorry to join this established thread but I’ve just watched today’s and thought it was brilliantly done. Wondered if others had seen it yet and what they thought about it?

the80sweregreat · 09/10/2025 09:36

Ben will either come back and go back to sleeping with half of London , or wreck revenge on Callum or Johnny. He has murdered before ( poor Heather!)
Despite all the ‘ he deserves happiness’ talk.

the80sweregreat · 09/10/2025 09:37

Have to watch it later on. It does sound a bit traumatic today.

GenerateNewUsername · 09/10/2025 09:38

I think it’s already been posted upthread what happens but they really featured all the kids and viewpoints. I thought it was handled well

GenerateNewUsername · 09/10/2025 09:38

Joel is a fantastic actor as I really hate him!

Don’t be sorry! Welcome 🙂

I have mixed feelings about it - generally I thought the episode was the opposite of subtle and the themes and opinions explored would have been better if done over the week. I was surprised Sharon was kind of sticking up for Joel and even more surprised that Jack wasn’t angrier that Any had been hit! I laughed when Tommy pointed out Alfie’s shirts, I think that’s the first time there’s been a reference to them. A good point was raised that it’s not OK for women to hit anyone and I liked Kat reflecting that her assaults in the past were wrong.

The strongest scenes were the horribly tense and almost terrifying moments with Joel. I was willing Vicky to leave instead of continuing the argument. I don’t know how realistic it is for someone in Vicky’s situation to send Ross away, knowing what Joel is capable of.

Yes I think overall today's was good, I can see what they were trying to achieve. I think it's quite a good subject to cover, as I'm sure this is happening in schools all over. I can't fathom how Ross is going to think the attack on Vicky had nothing to do with Joel! I mean that's just madness, 1+1=2 it's that simple, everyone will know it's Joel. Only those living under a rock would not think it's Joel. I really hope Vicky and Ross don't cover for him again, but I think the production will want the story/Joel to continue

NowNumber5 · 09/10/2025 10:39

Oh god, I gasped in shock when Joel hit Vicky.
I had read the spoiler on here a couple of days ago but I still physically recoiled in shock.
I can't imagine how the viewers who aren't aware of the spoilers will react.

It is sickening and scary to know this kind of thing is probably happening in every school around the country right now.

Joel taking a video of Vicky lying there hurt made me shudder in disgust.
Great acting all round.

the80sweregreat · 09/10/2025 12:29

Some stellar acting and the two boys calling out the hypocrisy of people hitting each other , but it’s ok because it’s not a man doing the actual slapping was put across well. Joel was really scary today.
However, I felt a bit lectured to as well. Not everyone does ‘ never did me any harm’ kind of talk ( because I am older , ‘different times’ and so on) and we are aware that this misogyny exists and needs to be addressed. Since the Adolescent drama a lot of shows are trying to be similar with their storylines now too.
Nice to see Will, his growing up to be a handsome one!
I Hope Vicki will be ok :(
I hope that Joel doesn’t get away with any of it.
