What did people think of her explanation?
She didn't really explain why she didn't tell the viewers really and whilst she didn't actually lie she certainly misled imo

Does it matter? I couldn't give a shit whether someone random of the telly had a gastric band fitted or not. Her business, not mine.

beansprout · 03/06/2008 10:23

Totally agree with Branflake. She is not accountable to the public just because she works in television.

she's not on this morning today....no explanation....yet

heididrink · 05/06/2008 12:09

wheres Fern? Does anyone know?

fryalot · 05/06/2008 12:13

I think that if she had said that she was having/had had the surgery, she would have been slagged off horrendously (Fern says it's ok to go under the knife, Fern says YES to surgery, Fern encourages teenagers to have slimming surgery, Fern is evil)

Now the story has come out she is being criticised for not telling us she had had surgery.

The poor woman cannot win.

What is a far more worrying issue is that she felt that she had to slim at any cost. I thought she was absolutely fantastically beautiful before she lost the weight and I really wish she could have seen that in herself as well.

SheherazadetheGoat · 05/06/2008 12:18

the mortality stats with these operations are horrific. she must have been desperate. bloody heat magazine, intellect on standby, braying mobs.

joash · 05/06/2008 12:36

Can't see why she had to explain anything TBH. It has absolutely nothgin to do with anyone else anyway. She did not mislead anyone. She had a gastric band fitted, you still have to follow a controlled diet and exercise plan to lose weight.

TillyScoutsmum - she did not have her stomach stapled.

posieflump the cheapest I have found is 7K to have the gastric band. It is almost impossible to get this done on the NHS whether morbidly obese or not.

SheherazadetheGoat the mortality stats for the procedure that Fern had are quite good actually

LazyLinePainterJane · 05/06/2008 12:37

No-one would give a toss if it were a man.

She wasn't in today as she was getting lipo doing a spinning class which guarantees a 2 stone weight loss in an 3 hours and she was a bit tired.

niceglasses · 05/06/2008 12:45

Its only the blardy News of the World stirring it. Complete nonsense. Read a decent paper.

RTKangaMummy · 05/06/2008 12:46

HERE WATCH WHAT FERN SAID ON MONDAY

I love Fern and Phil I think that it is her business and her families what operations she has

I don't buy papers or mags so have no idea of the lies they are saying about her

BUT I deffo want her to return cos Ruth is sooooooooooooo annoying

And yes she is deffo fit cos she rode along the NILE

Earlybird · 05/06/2008 12:49

Judy Finegan (sp?) is on telly, and isn't svelte (or young/perky for that matter).

Is it fair to say that at least some of Fern's appeal was based on the fact that she's not the stereotypical telly 'bobble head', and appeared happy with herself/her size?

jingleyjen · 05/06/2008 12:51

I think it is really sad that what ever she said or did about it it was going to be wrong.
if she announced it at the time she would have been criticised for not doing it "naturally"
at they really don't always work, if the press had known she had had it done there would have been weekly photo's in heat logging the journey.
Horrid.
Anyway, she is brilliant, doing something about being so big can only be a positive thing.

it's quite depressing the way poor fern is being villified for all this.

people really shouldn't take too much notice of celebrity dieters.

joash · 05/06/2008 12:58

The way people are having a go at her is nothing more than bullying - leave the bloody woman alone.

Or it can be done as Oprah did. She was/is vocal and honest about her struggles with weight. Her various attempts to lose the weight are part of her personal 'journey' and she lets her viewers share it - diets, nutritionists, special recipes, exercise regimes, even training for/running the marathon. Her viewers relate to her, and 'share' her struggles, failures and triumphs.

If she now (or sometime in future) decides to have surgery to lose the weight, she'll probably let the cameras into the operating theatre!

posieflump · 10/06/2008 18:53

didn't realise she hadn't been doing This Morning

OP posts:
posieflump · 11/06/2008 14:17

she didn't look well today I didn't think

OP posts:
GreenElizabeth · 11/06/2008 14:19

She hasn't misled people any more than a model who has bulimia or a tv presenter who stays slim living on cocaine and ciggies.

STAY WITH US FERN.

2blue · 11/06/2008 14:26

Oh poor Fern...

She is one of my favourite people on TV, it's a real shame that the press found out about her op. She shouldn't be made to feel bad.
