Dropped today. I love Robin Wright so I’m really looking forward to starting it tonight. It’s about a mother who is jealous of her sons girl friend.

I’m worried about the cat. I shudder to think what Cherry will do to him when she and Daniel have the inevitable falling out.

CalzoneOnLegs · 27/09/2025 14:08

@worrisomeasseta magnificent cat ❤️

haha I'm the opposite, I can't imagine how any parents of children could be team Laura - surely after telling someone your child has died when they haven't (and maintaining that lie repeatedly) you lose all sympathy. Perhaps I'm too superstitious!

Obviously Cherry was completely psychotic but I suppose in her favour she appeared to go in with good intentions and only kicked off (albeit in a completely OTT manner) in reaction once Laura treated her badly. Whereas Laura and her mate from Motherland were insanely rude to her from the first meeting - I can't believe they didn't apologise for the 'stripper' joke! She seemed to have grown up in an abusive household so basically learned if someone hits you, hit them back harder as a survival mechanism.

I think they missed a trick with the costuming in having two slightly different versions of some of the outfits to go with the 2 alternate POVs - so a tighter/shorter/brighter version in Laura's and then a less fitted outfit/toned down make up in Cherry's - so again the audience would be questioning which one was 'real' (ideally it would be so subtle you'd only notice subconsciously).
It was weird because in lots of her scenes (when they went hiking in Spain/rock climbing/when she was at home with her mum, the end scene when she was pregnant, etc.) she wore completely normal clothes.

Delatron · 27/09/2025 14:45

I think it’s all open to interpretation. I feel like Cherry planned the whole thing. She was always going to behave the way she did as that was her character (as we saw with the previous boyfriend stalking/wedding incident).

Now the whole pretending he was dead thing was awful and was never going to work. But Laura was going to extreme lengths to protect her son from becoming her next victim I guess.

The stripper comments were awful though I agree.

But what about when Cherry glasses herself? That’s crazy behaviour.

The show was basically about psychotic women and weak men. The husband of Laura infuriated me..

It was mega silly but still enjoyable. All the characters were as bad as each other, only in different ways.

I'm now watching Coldwater, which is completely bonkers

Then you should watch the guest if you haven't already.
Another silly but watchable show.

I binged Sirens over the weekend after the recommendation on here and really enjoyed it, so thank you to whoever suggested it!

It's another glamorous, billionaire lifestyle porn bonkers thriller/drama, but with added dark humour which is right up my street. Some interesting themes explored, and if I didn't already have a crush on Meghann Fahy from the Bold Type then I definitely do now...!

Any other suggestions of what to watch next? I seem to be enjoying silly thrillers centred around batshit crazy but attractive women right now...

Have you watched Riviera

BretonStripe · 29/09/2025 13:31

@RedRiverShore5 No, but just added to my watch list - thanks.

tennissquare · 29/09/2025 14:24

@BretonStripe, also if like Meghan Fahy, season 2 of White Lotus set in Sicily. It’s where she met Leo Woodall (they are now a couple).

If you like costume dramas, Olivia Cooke was also Becky Sharp in an itv version a few years ago, who is basically the 19th c. version of Cherry!

IndigoBluey · 29/09/2025 18:31

The final scene left it kind of hanging ?

What did she do with her wages I wonder.

Her wages went to pay the care home bills for her dad didn't they?

I really enjoyed it. Completely ridiculous, massive suspension of disbelief needed, but loved the property porn (the house in Spain 😍), clothes, and general silliness. And I thought the ending was pretty good too.

jammytoast2 · 11/11/2025 23:13

Just finished binging this and needed to talk to someone about it! I loved it. Obviously ridiculous but very entertaining. Have to say I was team Cherry, yes she was a complete psycho but never deserved the instant hatred from Laura. And towards the end Laura went fairly psychotic herself. The pair of them were just bonkers. Daniel seemed a sweetheart and they were both utterly ruthless.

I think Daniel is actually the problem.

He's such a spineless Mummy's boy.

He could have stopped all of the drama by making it quite clear on day one that Laura needed to back tf off and stop sticking her oar in.
