Starting this a bit early as Spoilers for the couplings could come out at any time.

Thread will normally be the location for the weekly spoiler but will be spoilers for who is paired with who before the 20th if we can get them.

The type of dance was literally in the title of the song: Mambo

I have no idea what the producers were thinking with that one. Lewis was shafted even before they hit the dancefloor. Such a shame.

@cordelia16 he definitely showed a lot of promise in the beginning which I don’t think Alexis has properly capitalised on

I also think some of it has been the height difference. I rewatched the AT and he is very stooped. Maybe Nadiya or Luba would have worked better.

He was in a series with a dance off.

All my votes go to Karen next two weeks. She and Carlos plus Alex and Jojo are my fave couples this series.

I agree with this & wish he’d gotten Katya as his partner (or Oti if she were still there) as they’d have absolutely gotten the best out of him & turn him into a dancer.

Just because Amber and Lewis are ringers, it doesn't mean they're not working just as hard.

I follow Katya on Insta, and there have been several times where she's posted a story of him having a nap during the day, because she works his ass off.

He might pick up choreography, move in time and have better natural rhythm, but he is learning and woeking hard too. It's obvious from judges comments that he was struggling with getting the fluidity for the salsa. His movements are very square because that's what he was used to as a hip hop dancer - lots of isolation movements - so he needed to unlearn that and learn how to have more control and slower fluid movement of the hips.

Anyway, it is what it is. The next two weeks will be a bit lacklustre without Katya and Lewis, but there we are.

I'm quite shocked at the result but really, Lewis and Katya did a pure musical theatre dance and technically there were lots of errors (even if from an entertainment perspective it was incredible). I didn't vote for him, (I voted for Karen, Amber and George) and apparently neither did anyone else! At this stage there's very little in it, and like on Bake Off, someone who has been brilliant sometimes has a bad week and goes early. Also I'm pleased for Balvinder even though I didn't vote for her.

Also to me this week showed just how good George is at leading his partner, better than Lewis, which enabled Alexis to do some really amazing stuff. It was a really good AT and they got it just right with a balance of character, story, artistry and technique for a ballroom dance. George also did some fabulous kicks and flicks which I haven't seen before from.a celeb male AT. I hope Karen, George & Amber are in the final, it will be so good.

Karen needs to do a waltz or Viennese, I think. I know that is hard with frame/her spine but she cannot keep avoiding it?
Lewis and Amber were still better than having two more pros not competing, with the two withdrawals before the series had even started. Then the three injuries certainly did not help.
Still surprised they did not have a proper reserve list though. Unless they said no, with the lack of rehearsal time.
I shall miss Lewis. Preferred him to Amber.
But felt for him and for Geordie lass and for footballer guy (forgotten both names, you know who I mean!), one bad dance and you are gone.

It sucks for Katya if she did not choreo it. It feels like Will Young and Karen getting stick for the Bollywood salsa. Neither pro deserved it unless they had massive input.

Am now rooting for Karen to win the whole thing.
Or Balvinder if Amber does get knocked out in the semis hobbled by production

Karen - that jive and her AT please
Bal - her Charleston and her paso
Both can do similar show dances to their couples choices ;-)
George - I cannot think of a dance that has stayed with me. There was an early floaty one, maybe. And QS.
Amber - I liked her cha cha but she ended up in the DO. Not sure what else. Would not do her jive against Kaz's but maybe in separate heats if she does get through (so Kaz's in judges 'favourite and Amber in couple's).

Does anyone know if early seasons of Strictly can be accessed somewhere? I would like to watch those over my Xmas break.

I've tried that and can't find any.

Might be worth looking for DVDs of the old shows in charity shops / CEX or new on Amazon ?
They must exist in some form !

This musical is absolutely AWFUL. And I love musicals normally!

Yes, that's the most likely scenario.

I really don't like Amber. I find her smug and self-satisfied. (As well as being a total ringer). George is bland. Karen is the one who has had more of a "journey" from a total non-performing background.

Yes, that was predictable. Bal had a good run, she did well.

So George is going to win.
