Incessant Qs from DS, he has seen a trailer with Rose in, and Daleks??? Badgering me to know who the little girl is, who the archaeologist with the screwdriver is, one of them/both of them must be Rose? He needs to know if Donna is dead or not, etc. etc.... can't wait til next week!!!!

I don't think either of them is Rose, and I definitely don't think she is Jenny.

She is some sort of future girlfriend of the Doctor who is just meeting him in the wrong order all the time... viz. "Time Traveller's Wife"? Book I thought was a pike of toss but which some of you will be familiar with?...

She could also be a future Doctor!...

If so then it's quite similar to what Steven Moffat did with the Doc and Mme. de Pomapdour. Only all her meetings with him were in the same order as his - just years apart.

Whoever this 'River Song' (what sort of name is that anyway?) is, I reckon she loves him.

I think the way she reacted to Donna was because she is from a future timeline and knows of Donna from what the Dr has told her. Presumably a timeline from after Donna's death by the look on her face when Donna asks 'what about me?'

If there was an "L" in River Song it would be an anagram of Rose Living. But there isn't an L. Does that help ?

I've had too much wine (hic) - what I meant to say was if there were an L and an extra I it would be Rose Living. But there aren't.

I think lots of people (not just here) are barking up the wrong tree wanting her to "be" someone: Jenny or Rose or a regenerated Doctor or an amalgamation of all the companions or something. Surely what makes most sense is that she is some future girlfriend/lover companion of the Doctor who is just meeting him in the wrong order all the time. We shouldn't have met her yet, that's all.

If you think about it, it's amazing that this sort of thing doesn't happen more often:

DOCTOR: The Master! So you did escape from the dimensional portal on Optimotros IV! But the only way to do that would have been to reconfigure the temporal fusion matrix with a sonic re-induction!
