Incessant Qs from DS, he has seen a trailer with Rose in, and Daleks??? Badgering me to know who the little girl is, who the archaeologist with the screwdriver is, one of them/both of them must be Rose? He needs to know if Donna is dead or not, etc. etc.... can't wait til next week!!!!

[potential spoiler theories ahead]

No need to make it complicated at all. If she's Jenny, that's a bit of an icky way to behave with your dad, don't you think?

If she's Rose I will change my name to OverTheSharkWeGo. Rose didn't get the sonic device out of the bin in the first episode, she just turned away and disappeared into thin air.

I think it's made quite clear she's his future missus. Now, what that means about how long she's got left to live, poor dear, is another question entirely. And if she's telling the truth is another question, isn't it? And if she is telling the truth and manages to change timelines, then oh deary me, it all goes bang, doesn't it?

My money is on the little girl being a sentient computer programme of sorts, and Donna certainly not being dead - she's saved to the main hard-drive, methinks. But don't take my word for it, this is a Moffat script, all bets are off.

UnquietDad · 01/06/2008 11:45

Yes, "Saved" means saved in the computer sense, I bet.

JackieNo · 01/06/2008 12:46

Yes, when one of the information pod thingies was explaining to Donna how it had a human face, it said something like 'John Smith donated this on his death - it was saved to our fleshbanks'. But who knows how that works.

CalmCalmCalm · 01/06/2008 21:53

KayHarker - I completely agree. I really don't think she's anyone we've met before and I also wonder if she is telling the truth. Quite an easy con to pull on a time traveller really - "yes, we're really close in the future. You just haven't met me yet". The main reason I think this is that she really hammered home the "we have a connection" references. So, either the character is a bit of a PINA or she's making sure the Dr and everyone else realises they have a relationship.

Boco · 01/06/2008 21:56

DDs were driving me nuts today after watching the end, - they've been walking around being evil robots and saying 'donna noble has left the library, donna noble has peed in your car' over and over and over again and finding themselves hilarious.

PigeonPie · 01/06/2008 22:11

Just one thing no one's mentioned yet is 'the book' which the Professor kept looking at. Was this the book which the Dr started last series when he turned 'human' and got married (Human Nature) the one with those scarecrows?

SaintGeorge · 01/06/2008 22:12

No, IIRC that was just a dark coloured notebook.

River's looked like a mini-Tardis.

beansprout · 01/06/2008 22:12

The Tardisy looking book?

theAfkaUrbanDryad · 01/06/2008 22:18

Just watched it

Fucking cliff-hanger!!

valid theory IMO Kay about the computer program. Good work.

PigeonPie · 01/06/2008 22:20

In the back of my tiny mind, I'm sure that the tardis book has been mentioned before. I'll have to get my DH to discuss this with his friends tomorrow!

theAfkaUrbanDryad · 01/06/2008 22:20

I don't see what relevance the book from the scarecrow episodes with Daisy from Spaced would have...or am i missing something?

PigeonPie · 01/06/2008 22:22

Neither did I, but DH was sure it was the same book! I wasn't so sure, but I do think it's been mentioned before.

prettybird · 01/06/2008 22:29

is the wee girl some sort of "avatar" in the mainframe - ie the security system that is storing the "saved" people. That's why she is told that the reality is in fact her nightmares and the "ordinary" life we see her is not the real world.

sphil · 01/06/2008 22:58

I thought it was the same book too. But don't have a clue what significance it would have.

UnquietDad · 01/06/2008 23:20

It's not the same book.

The "Journal of Impossible Things" in "Human Nature" last year was the book of writings and doodles which the Doctor did as "John Smith", his subconscious memories manifesting themselves as fiction.

This book looks different. It's River Song's journal of her meetings with the Doctor.

Katisha · 01/06/2008 23:59

I think River Song is the Rani...(who used to be Kate o'Mara)

prettybird · 02/06/2008 08:14

Can't be: she is from the Dcotor's future and he knew the Rani in his past. And anyway, a Time Lord (Lady) wouldn't need to keep notes in a diary!

beansprout · 02/06/2008 08:38

River Song - what sort of name is that? Anagram?

gizmo · 02/06/2008 10:48

Dammit, I have to get this out of my head, because otherwise I?m not going to get any work done this morning (what do mean, the morning is nearly over anyway?).

I have a sinking feeling (because I like Alex Kingston and think that there is great chemistry between her and DT) that Prof River Song is for the chop. As a Significant Female in the Doctor?s life, how can she not be?

However, if she is, then you could set up a great choice between her and Donna. At some point, if she and the Doctor agree that, when he meets her in the future, he ignores her and does not let their relationship develop, then she will not be able to summon him to the library, meaning Donna will not have to die. So, the Doctor has to choose: River Song or Donna? God, I can see that being a tear jerker (cf Human Nature)

Poor old Doctor, he really does get put through the wringer, doesn?t he?

Am also nearly convinced that The Girl is probably the library computer dreaming, possibly driven a bit mad by the 4022 (4023 counting Donna) identities it has had to absorb.

As an aside, I?m intrigued by this being the second paradox loop we?ve seen this series ? the Tardis was pulled to the planet in the Doctor?s Daughter by her existence, yet arrived too early, thus creating her ? and I?m wondering if this is a clue about something in the series finale?

(must...pull myself out...of speculation vortex.....)

sphil · 04/06/2008 11:47

OOhh - I like that idea Gizmo.

MummyDoIt · 04/06/2008 11:54

Gizmo, my brain hurts!

NigellaTheUndomesticGoddess · 04/06/2008 12:02

v time travellers wife

gizmo · 04/06/2008 15:59

Sorry about theory causing brainache - imagine how it must have felt to be living with it inside your head.

Anyway, I feel better now it's down on paper. Although I'm brewing up another one(bloody hell I need to get out more)

Ripeberry · 04/06/2008 22:40

Well, for what it's worth i think Riversong is the Doctor's autobiographer from the far distant future and the "tardis book" is his autobiography.
She got his sonic screwdriver as part of his will or something.
Maybe too simplistic but seems to fit well.

Ripeberry · 07/06/2008 20:26

Oh, ok i was wrong, she must be his wife or something, but i really did feel for Donna when she "lost" her kids
Moffat just keeps them coming!
